An excellent trip not to be missed!
My cousin and I were joined by a lovely Italian family of four for an unforgettable 5 day Bok Bus tour on South Africa's Garden Route. Our knowledgeable and experienced tour guide, Mawande, made sure both parties saw what they wanted to see. We were very impressed by his attention to detail and making sure the trip ran smoothly. A highly recommended experience!

Ex South African doing the garden route
Christopher made the experience pleasant. Its much better going with Chris than going by ourselves. We've been travelling for nearly 4 months now and prev guided ourselves. This guided tour I found far superior than our self guided travel. My advice is go with Chris and get the maximum out of your experience.

          Wonderful trip with Benjamin!
On the 5-day Garden Route tour, Benjamin was an excellent guide and we had a personalized view of the Western and Eastern Cape, with the right balance of information, sights and rest. Highly recommend!

Wonderful way to experience a safari on limited time
I would highly recommend this tour for a number of reasons. The game lodge was the highlight and a very special experience, with clear sightings of every African animal you would wish to see, beautiful surroundings, incredible views of stars, sunset and sunrise and very good food and accommodation. Sadly the weather precluded us from seeing many penguins at Betty’s Bay - can’t blame Bokbus for that! But by the time we got to Hermanus and Cape Aghuilas, the weather had cleared to reveal beautiful views. Mawande gave us an insightful and well informed commentary as we travelled there and back. He is a proficient guide and a really lovely person as a bonus! We travelled as a family and it was good to hear about this wonderful country from a local perspective. For those travelling alone, this tour provides the added bonus of safely providing travel and dinner companions.

          Perfect week
There were not many registrations because we were not in the high season but luckily the tour just went on! We had a super nice and sweet tour guide. The route was tailored to our wishes and the guide was flexible. We had nice accommodations and fun activities. Transportation was also good.

A great 3 day experience with safari
We were picked up at our hotel by our guide Chris who was an amazing host and very knowledgable about this history of South Africa, Cape Town and the garden route. He explains things in a very honest way and gives you a great insight in the country especially for a first time visitor. As it was off peak season we were lucky to be the only ones on the tour so we could be very flexible with stop offs the advantage of the tour is that you don’t need to think about anything other than enjoy the surroundings. The first day was a costal drive with some stop offs we saw penguins and went to the southern tip of Africa. The guest house on the first night was very basic (and probably could have been better) we were unlucky that was an issue with no running water in the area that night (outside of our control)but Chris did his best to help with the issue and got some large bottles. You can’t always expect everything to run smoothly. The highlight of the trip was the game lodge which felt a lot more luxurious in terms of the bedroom lodge and three course meal after the evening game drive. The staff are great at the lodge, there’s a swimming pool there too outside if you have time and a small games room. There was also a morning drive too on the last day. The breakfast is excellent after this, and you will get to see most animals over the two drives, lion, cheetah, elephant, rhino, hippo, zebra, buffalo and others. The third day is mainly about the drive home to Cape Town there’s some good scenery and you will do a couple of stops at shops and we also done a quick wine tasting on the way home. We got back about 4.30pm to cape town and was very happy with how the days went overall. I think the 3 day tour was about the right amount of time 2 days would have felt a bit rushed and I think we covered enough in 3 days. The safari is certainly the highlight!

          Excellent and great value
Our guide Muwande was amazing ! He was Very Informed and a pleasure to spend 4 days with . We recommend the garden route in the winter - great weather and fewer passengers ! Our van only had 5 people so it was very comfortable and a balanced group. The stops on the garden route were short but just enuf to get the feel and views . The accommodations were CLEAN and most were really cute and authentic . Bok Bus communicated well throughout the entire booking and scheduling Would recommend for people who are looking for a great value .

Awesome garden route experience with Mawande
The tour was awesome, made particularly special by the tour guide Mawande, who had so much knowledge about the history, politics and geography of the beautiful garden route. The nature on the route was absolutely stunning and the experiences involved were extraordinary, particularly the garden route safari. All of the accomodation and meals were amazing and couldn’t more highly recommend this tour. It exceeded my expectations greatly and is well and truly worth the money.

Incredible scenery, great knowledge and communication, very well organised
The tour was very well put together and ticks off the essential parts of the Garden Route along the way. Our guide Mawande was extremely well informed and provided valuable information about different places as we passed through or arrived at them. His knowledge was incredibly vast and was able to answer any questions we had about where we were going and also South Africa as a whole which was extremely handy so early in our stay. The Garden Route Game Lodge was a real highlight, the lodge is brilliant and meals are all provided - and this is only one of the stops. Overall communication before and during the tour was excellent and I can’t thank Mawande enough for providing such an amazing experience for the start of my first visit to the area!

          Wonderful Fast Amazing Adventure
A truly amazing Garden Route Adventure & Safari experience. We saw so many fascinating interesting things and met some incredible people along the way. Visiting Cape Town has always been on our to do list and then we came across BokBus Garden Route Adventure Tour on TripAdvisor, they have so many fantastic reviews so we decided to give it a try to coincide with our visit to Cape Town. Mawande was our solo guide & driver for 4 days, he made everything awesome. We learned so much about SA from him all thanks to his knowledge and planning. Hint, expect to see everything listed on the TripAdvisor itinerary and more. All the restaurants & meals we ate were really good and exceeded our expectations. Here are some of the highlights from the tour, Cango Cave was actually really cool, the Garden Route drive was beautiful, the penguins, the Safari experience, plus Mawande took us to places that only local people know. Needless to say, we took some really great photosand had the best memories on this trip. All the accommodations we stayed at were clean and functional, we felt 100% safe the entire time. All in all, Mawande is a fantastic host and guide, he is a true Ambassador for South Africa. We 100% recommend BokBus.

A Bok Bus package tour is the best way to experience the most in a few days
We recently made a five day Garden route tour which was absolutely amazing. I made a similar great tour with Bok Bus 2006 on my own, and when I now a second time 2024 made it as a couple, the tour had been developed and was even better. I have found that a package tour with Bok Bus is a fantastic way of experiencing South Africa and getting most out of each travel day. It is much better than driving on your own. Trying to find your way to attractions, best viewing points, good restaurants and accommodation is time consuming and will end up being more expensive. Having your own private guide saves a lot of time and energy. You can relax and enjoy without thinking about the best route, where it is safe to go etc., and you learn more about the country than driving on you own. Our experienced driver and guide Chris had a long interesting lecture about South Africa’s history during the first day’s driving time. During the tour he continuously told about society, people, nature, plants and animals. He was very caring, not driving too long time without stop, and knew exactly where to make breaks for the best coffee or lunch quality. I can highly recommend a Bok Bus package tour for the company’s quality, reliability and service orientation. A very good choice for young people and all ages, regardless if you travel on your own, as a couple or a group. /Per P., Sweden/

Best travel experience in my life!
I would highly recommend Bok Bus 5 Day Garden Route Tour because of the following: an excellent Tour Guide named Chris! His deep knowledge about visited targets, overall background picture of interesting people connected to the area lifted the trip experience to higher grounds! Everything well told and with a good portion of humour! Amazing views of a beautiful, green landscape with highest mountains, cliffs on one side and the lively bluegreen ocean on the other. So beautiful! Hiking at Storms River was a real highlight as well as a visit to Cangoo Caves. The most unforgettable memory was an unprepared encounter with an upset elephant in Addo Elephant Park! Thanks to our great driver and guide Chris everything felt safe and good! There was even time for flexibility in the program so we could visit Monkeyland and Birds of Eden. Great places both of them! Fresh restrooms was well planned and time organized along the tour. Food and night shelter was great at all stops we made. Fabulous was the meal at Surfers' Restaurant in Jeffrey's Bay as well as the three course dinner at our last stay at Garden Route Lodge. Wonderful tour! 10 out of 10! Would love to do it all over again!

I did the 2 days Safari Tour and it was nice. It's a very long drive to get to the Garden Route Lodge and the scenic road of Clarence drive was closed so it felt quite a long journey not very exciting. I was picked up from my Airbnb in Capetown by driver and guide Mawande which arrived very punctual. I was disappointed by the Garden Route Lodge Game as I wish I would have known in advance that it's quite a new reserve with many animals that were rescued and not used to be fully indipendent in the wild. The reserve has only two elephants, some very elderly lions which can't hunt and were sleeping but we also saw other animals like Bufalos, rhynos, zebras, a cheeta and more. The safari guide of the Garden Route Lodge was fantastic and the lodge is very nice. Bear in mind that if you choose the 2 days Safari you can't see giraffes as that's only for guests who book at least 2 nights in the lodge, I wished I'd known that as well in advance. All reviews I read were so good that I think my expectations were high. Overall it was a good experience and I enjoyed the stop at Hermanus and Betty's Bay. I think the price is fair as it's include also other stops and the chance to visit other places outside of Cape Town which are quite far of reach if you don't drive so I was overall happy about it. I think that if your interest is to combine the safari with the opportunity to see other places in South Africa then it's a decent deal. If your dream is instead an unforgettable safari experience perhaps there are bigger reserve close to Cape Town you'd prefer to go that are more expensive like Aguila.

Benjamin did a great job on the trip! Showed us everything around the coast! He waited for us to finish our errands in each location and made sure everyone was comfortable at all times!

The location of the safari was really nice but you only get an hour to spend at the location (swim in the pool and enjoy the views, which are incredible). Got to see the big 5 but the Giraffes are only open to see if you stay at the location more than 2 days.

At the safari restaurant there was a waitress who was serving us who was rude from the beginning, we tried to ignore her but she seemed to be in a bad mood throughout. She told another couple from our group that they cannot order food until everyone from the group arrives which was untrue. All other staff were very friendly!

One thing that was confusing is that if you buy this package you have to stay with your group at all times including dinner + breakfast. Better to buy package with friends or family not for couples.

Mawande met us outside of our apartment. I was expecting us to be part of a party, but it was a private journey of over 200 miles, stopping at Hermanus, where the Indian Ocean meets the Atlantic.
Before I talk about Garden Lodge, I must mention Mawande. I have never before had a driver who could become such a friend on a journey - professional, informative, helpful but also interested and engaged. He is unquestionably the best guide that we have ever enjoyed on our travels,
Garden Lodge was a superb location and our visit included 2 x safaris, one evening and one early morning, an evening meal and breakfast. We saw lions, cheetahs, buffalo, rhino, elephants and a host of local wildlife - all knowledgably described by our host. The Hippo's were hiding in reeds and couldnt be seen.
All staff including reception, waiting, bar and especially our safari guide were fantastic and the facilities are superb.
Mawande was the person that made the long journey so interesting as we learnt about his life. A wonderful companion. We asked to go straight home after the safari.
I cannot recommend this experience highly enough

This excursion from Cape Town is about four hours each way however, it is worth the time and early wake up call to see the true South Africa. Vaughn was an excellent tour guide, taking into account anything we asked to do and providing us with as much additional information as possible on the route to the Seregenti reserve.

Aside from the Seregenti reserve we visited the whale watching capital of South Africa and wandered the market and saw many whales from the shore as well as the southern most tip of South Africa. We asked to stop at shops and view points which he incorporated into our trip, he really made the trip a special experience before and after we did our safari.

The Serengeti national park and safari was out of this world, we saw; hippos, elephants, buffalo, wildebeest, zebra, lions and much much more. Our ranger was incredibly professional and could answer every question asked by the group about every animal we saw, she took the time to allow us multiple views of each animal and therefore, a great range of photos! Our lodge chalets were really well set out and the food was incredible, our only regret is we did not stay longer!

We are aware that this company offer a longer tour which may be the better idea as we really did enjoy our weekend with Vaughn and could have easily seen more of South Africa with his support and knowledge.

Thank you for the excellent service and vibes Vaughn, we will be back!

We loved taking this safari tour. Chris was our guide and he was thoroughly informative and made sure we were comfortable and safe the entire time. He pointed out cultural and historical areas of note and suggested great options for food and rest areas.

The tour included lodging and some food options - all of which were top rate and I've posted review of them elsewhere. Chris went out of his way to be sure we got the most we could out of our trip, even when the weather was uncooperative - it never fazed him. On our way back to Cape Town, there was a rock slide on the highway and we had to reroute quickly to make it back at a reasonable hour. Again, Chris was calm and cool and made sure all of us on the tour were back as soon as safely possible.

I highly recommend this safari tour if you don't have much time. Economically and we saw so much more than we expected.

We were part of a small group (9 in total) that were taken to the Garden Route Game Lodge for an overnight stay.
Our early start on the first day began with a visit to see the Stony Point Penguin Colony at Betty's Bay. Having visited Boulders Beach the previous day, this provided a more natural environment to see the penguins. We then travelled to Hermanus for a brunch stop on the seafront. Our scenic journey then continued to the Garden Route Game Lodge.
Throughout the day our Driver and Guide Mawande provided a wonderful commentary, and provided us with information on life in South Africa at the present time.
The Garden Route Game Lodge provided a great location and base for an afternoon and early morning Game Drive. The accommodation and restaurant facilities were first class, and the Rangers very forthcoming with their knowledge of all the wonderful wildlife we got to see during the Game Drives.
After a hearty breakfast we set off back towards Cape Town. On the return journey we took in Cape Agulhas, the most southerly point of Africa.
Although this tour involves a high amount of travelling, the open roads and various places of interest were brought to life by our friendly and knowledgeable Guide Mawande.

We have had the 2 Day Safari last week. It was an amazing experience which we owe significantly to our driver Vaughan. Although it was a long drive, he made it feel entertaining and was very attentive and droves very safely. A really nice person. Thank you! At the safari we saw all of the big five and the accommodation at the garden route was a dream.

Overall a great experience. My trip to South Africa was short and based in Cape Town, so I knew I wouldn’t have time to make it to one of the big national parks for a safari. Going on safari was a priority for me, and Bok Bus was a great solution. All transportation and accommodations were sorted. The game lodge we visited was great, we were able to see most of the animals on the property (many rescued) during the two game rides. I understand that safari’s at larger parks require multiple days because it’s harder to guarantee you will see all the animals. If you are pressed on time, this is a great option to still get the safari experience close to Cape Town.

Mawande was an excellent guide. He provided a lot of historical information and context on the country, and the towns we stopped in. He is warm and personable and helped to make every one in the group included and welcomed.

The other stops along the coast were also beautiful and worth seeing.

This trip was so cool! Our guide Dylan was the best; from the moment of pick-up till the very last drop-off his positive energy was contagious. He also has lots of nice stories and details to share. We stopped at various viewing points, scenic locations and had plenty of stops for toilet breaks and to shop some light refreshments. The Game Lodge was luxurious, a great location with amazing food and very friendly staff. Wish we got to spend some more time there. The two game drives are also really cool, good chance to see many indigenous animals from upclose. Don’t forget to bring some binoculars. Would definitely recommend this trip and hope to meet Dylan again!

I decided on this tour because I had a limited time left in Cape Town and wanted to get away from the city and see some of the countryside and the nature. What a fantastic decision this was! Benjamin was our guide, picked me up at my Airbnb and each of the individual guests at their own accommodations. Benjamin is a wealth of great information about South Africa and its incredible nature. He personalized our drive to the game lodge to maximize the amount of cool sights we could see along the way. The penguins at Betty's Bay and early lunch at a super cute seaside town!! Benjamin was professional, fun, caring and funny the whole way.

The lodge was incredible. Stunning scenery and way cool accommodations. It was super easy to stay over night there, in fact I could have easily stayed longer. Good food, comfortable rooms, fun pool overlooking the reserve. And the game drives in the evening and in the morning were unbelievable. We got to see so so many animals and to learn about the Garden Game Lodge's important conservation efforts. Melanie was our safari guide. She was awesome and even brought snacks! On the way back to Cape Town, Benjamin took us to the southern most tip of the continent, to the point where the Indian and Atlantic Oceans merge. The turquoise water was stunning. Then, Benjamin even took us to a place where we could see huge Stingrays swimming along the shore so cool!!

I cannot give enough praise about this experience. It was just so fun. I will remember this for the rest of my life. Thank you so so much Bokbus, Benjamin, Melanie and The Garden Game Lodge!
