    A true bucket list adventure
This trip was fabulous - we saw everything we’d hoped for and more. Our guide Mike was superb, so considerate with great attention to detail and excellent knowledge of the area

Dedicated and knowledgeable staff, awe-inspiring whales, but too crowded on the boat
I would give the staff 5 stars, and seeing the right whales as close as we did was absolutely incredible, all of the staff of Dyer Island cruises were knowledgeable and warm. However, we believed that there was a maximum of 17 people for the boat but it turned out to be closer to 35 in total. This led to feeling packed in like sardines and needing to elbow to get space in order for prime viewing and that was rather unpleasant and detracted from the overall experience.

    A definite must-see
Our driver Ms Lynn was very punctual and provided useful descriptions and explanations as we drove to Gansbaai. She was also quite attentive to our jet lag moments of falling sleep during the journey. On arrival at the wharf, she accompanied us to make use of clean and proper washrooms and ensured we partook of filling refreshments. The boat tour was thrilling. We saw the southern right whales in different movements and motions. The boat itself was sturdy and very comfortable. I would recommend this tour be called whale watching instead. I say this because the instructor on board and all the signage at the booth were only aligned to whale watching. I must make mention that the 2 tours booked with Born in Africa during the trip were conducted in a thoroughly professional manner. Be sure to ask for Ms Lynn or Ms Melodie as your guide!

Even bad weather can’t stop this company, what a trip!
My partner and I had previously signed up for a whale viewing boat tour, which had been cancelled owing to weather for understandable reasons. Born in Africa Tours, on the other hand, really stepped up and went above and beyond in every way. Michelle, upon learning that our tour had been cancelled, called every boat excursion company she could think of and then provided continual communication and potential solutions for other possibilities we had during our brief stay in Cape Town. She was able to change this to a wine tasting tour, which was hosted by our guide Mike (who I'll get to shortly), and then due to the continued bad weather, Michelle arranged for Mike to be with us for the rest of our time in Cape Town, providing other bespoke tours, which resulted in the most memorable experience we could have hoped for during our stay. Now, on to Mike. First and foremost, what a gentleman. Always attentive, lots of historical knowledge, and gosh did this guy know his restaurants. Every recommendation was out of this world, very good value, and always off the tourist tracks, to give the truest "where locals" go feel. We had the BEST steak we'd ever eaten, at the Nelson's Eye, again a recommendation of Mike's, and after he dropped us off for any evening meals, he was always a step ahead organising or ensuring we had safe travel back to our hotel. During our tours with Mike, if he needed to be around, he was there, providing little antidotes or even just being around when we did our own thing and was watching us to ensure our personal and property safety. It was like having a private tour guide one moment and personal security the next, which gave my partner and I that next level of feeling safe. We even got to see whales on the shores of Hermanus thanks to the efforts of Mike, Michelle, and Born in Africa tours. We can't thank Mike and the Born in Africa Tours team enough. We will undoubtedly use them during our next trip to South Africa and Cape Town!

Too far from Cape Town, not worth it
It was such a long way from Cape Town city literally takes the whole day for about an hour boat ride and only 10 minutes in the shark cage. Would not recommend if you do not have much time. Not worth it.

Great day from start to finish. Loved the experience, saw 4 of the marine big 5! Mike our driver was great, informative and found us a great wine tasting on the way back. We went to the steakhouse he recommends ,the Nelson and had a great steak to finish the day.

    Fab day out
Great trip to see the marine 5. We were met by Jamie, our tour guide who is fab. He is so knowledgeable about the area and took/ showed us so many things on the way and on return. We really feel that we learned so much from Jamie about the history of the Cape. Jamie us a quintessential tour guide and a must have for your tour needs. Thank you so much.

    Enjoy every sip
Mike was an amazing guide. We took us on a journey from some of the old vineyards to new. Being on our honeymoon, my husband and I enjoyed doing this on our own with just the guide. It made it much more personal. The service was amazing and guide and hosts at each winery very knowledgeable. We enjoyed every sip.

Great day out on the Cape Peninsula
Mike’s personal narration drawing on his in-depth local knowledge of the beautiful country was a real bonus. He went out of his way to make sure we got the most out of our day in spite of the unpredictable weather. The scenery was stunning and Mike gave us plenty of time during all our stops to make the most of it.

    Lovely day with Mike
Michael Klerck was an excellent guide. I started the day with coffee at an unusual cafe in Cape Town where the great coffee is served and Mike drove me through the city pointing out a large number of landmarks on the way. Leaving the downtown area, he made the stop that I needed, spending as much time at each stop. I t was a great day with Mike and he recommended me great wines to buy. He explained very well all details. Would highly recommend Mike to anyone looking to experience of the wine tasting!

He is the best. We would recommend everyone to request Mike as your guide. Thank you very much Mike and God bless you ❤️❤️❤️❤️

    Great experience
Melodie was spectacular, she picked me up promptly at the hotel and during the journey, she explained the history, politics, and economy of Cape Town. It was a very interesting conversation. She gave us specific instructions on the safari and picked us up on time to return us to Cape Town. The safari was great, I saw three out of the five, and it was comfortable. It's a great experience for those who don't have time to go on a big safari. Melodie made the experience incredible.

    A must-do!
Dave was our driver and absolutely fantastic! It was a 2.5-3 hr drive to Gansbaai and Dave kept us entertained with history and conversation the whole time. We were contacted ahead of time and had great conversation about where we were from (Dave researched our state before he arrived), what to expect, and was in no short supply of “dad jokes”, also went out of his way to ensure we were able to visit a penguin colony. Highly recommended to feel safe, be picked up in a beautiful car and enjoy the ride. Honestly an easy brained compared to the other ride options. The shark diving was also fantastic, very humbling to see large sharks emerge out of the merry water (about 5-7 separate sharks) Also saw a beautiful, curious stingray.

    Amazing Safari and Stellar Guide
Mike Klerck was maybe the best guide we’ve ever had on any trip! Knowledgeable, helpful and above and beyond at every turn! Our Safari was amazing, and we could not have asked for a better experience seeing cared for animals on the reserve. The guides conveyed so much useful and interesting information, and we could not have been more excited seeing so many of South Africa’s species.

    An excellent experience!
The Born in Africa team was amazing. A group of us from Columbia Business School were in Cape Town for a school seminar, and wanted to do a safari. We found Born in Africa and had an easy time of setting up the trip. Chris was assigned as our tour guide, and they picked all 31 of us up on Monday morning. On the ride out to Aquilla Game Reserve we were told informative stories about the country and areas that we passed. When we got to Aquilla we were greeted with drinks and lunch. After lunch we started our safari. We quickly and easily saw 4 of the 5 five. Only the leopard was hiding from us. It was a great experience. The bus ride back was smooth and once again, Chris was extremely hospitable and knowledgable. I highly recommend this service!

Long drive but Mike, our driver and guide, was very informative on the journey through the beautiful landscape. On reaching Aquila he was extremely helpful and attentive, then again on the return journey he took great care of us. A tiring day but well worth it.

My husband and I had such a great experience with Dave and Mike. First of all, we were picked up at our Airbnb with a Land Rover - how lovely is that? My husband and I were the only one in the passenger seats. We were given a very much “private tour”. It was also Mike’s birthday. Both gentlemen were so nice to us, gave us gifts, and we had a lovely drive to and from Aquila Game Reserve and Spa. The views in N1 road were just amazing. Both Dave and Mike made sure we were okay all the way. We arrived at Aquila a few minutes before lunchtime and we had lunch before the restaurant started to get too crowed. Also, we had time to take pictures around the Aquila and we got front seats in the bus for the game drive. We definitely got special attention and it was really nice. We took amazing pictures during the game drive as well. For a first time doing a safari, it was perfect.
If you ever in Cape Town and would like to book a guided tour, I will definitely recommend booking with this company. They are excellent at what they do.

My husband and I had such a great experience that we booked a winery tour guided with them. If you are into wine or would like to experience something different, book a winery tour with Mike. South African wine is really good. Customer service is on point. Mike is such a nice person and so knowledgeable. Mike took us to the best spots and I was really happy. I took so much pictures and shorts videos. Very memorable. First he picked us up in a Mercedes - Okay!!! Then he took us to the Brasserie for breakfast and it was so good. The cafe was very different in design, and the coffee/food were really good. Then we visited few wine estates and we had a nice lunch at one of the wine estate. Our tour was very lay back, which made it very enjoyable and we had great conversations as well.

Mike, our driver, was early, accommodating, and patient. He went out of his way to share local history, economy, stories and opportunities. We got to stop at a winery in addition to our itinerary and he was outstanding in the attention to detail. We had such a great time we have booked an additional tour for our last day of holiday. I highly recommend Big Five Safari and will definitely seek to book with them when we return.

The winter weather in Cape Town is very unpredictable. It was thus not a surprise that we had to postpone our trip from a Monday to a Thursday. What is worth mentioning is the open communication we had with our tour operator, Born in Africa, in particular Dave. Right from our booking in Singapore, he made us feel welcome, cared and certainly genuine in ensuring that we would get the best Safari experience. True enough when we met Thursday morning, he more than met our expectations of a guide - he even personally picked us up from our hotel and sent us to the Safari. The two-hour car journey was amazing. He and his guide came across as long lost friends and they answered all our queries on South Africa, its culture, past and people. For sure, we enjoyed the car ride - to and from the Safari. They demonstrated South African hospitality! We felt safe and taken care of very well by them.

The guide was very nice and helpful during the whole trip. He gave us very good tips before proceeding with the safari. However, to be highlighted that this tour is ONLY transport from your hotel to the safari. I saw cheaper tour for this service. However, i chosen them for their stops. To my surprise the guide was not aware of any stops (only 1 stop done for the view). When i show him the details of the pacakge he them did a stop (wine tasting which is additional cost) when we came back from the safari. I believe this is not professional. They should respect their itinerary without me reminding them of what they charge me in the package.

Thank you for taking the time to post your review. We do take customer complaints seriously and apologise if your experience was not up to your expectations. I think in this instance, however, there was a miscommunication between yourselves and our guide. The problem started with a late pickup from your hotel (not our fault). In order to get to the game reserve on time, our guide chose to do the wine stop after the game drive instead of on the way there as per our itinerary and did not actually need to be reminded.

You’re just paying (in my case about £200) for the transfer to and from the reserve - as are the other 5 or 6 passengers in the mini bus. It is made clear that the reserve fees are payable separately so I’ve no issue with that, but when you compare what you get with other day trips for a third of the cost, frankly I’d give this a miss. As for the safari experience, we saw some giraffes, elephants, rhinos, springboks and hippos- unfortunately the lions didn’t turn up but that can’t be helped. The tour guide was very good.

Unfortunately solo travellers do usually pay a premium price. The cost per person is less when more people book - economies of scale. But glad to hear that other than that you still enjoyed the day.

We didn’t have time in our schedule for a full Safari so opted for this one.
We were picked up in a very comfortable & fully air conditioned car which made the 2 hour journey to the safari park fly by. The driver Chris was very knowledgeable & informative, he told us loads of things about the area as we passed through.
Upon arrival at Aquila game reserve we were treated to a glass of bubbly & a wonderful buffet lunch before embarking upon our Safari trip. On the trip itself (around 2.5 hours) we saw Elands, Ostriches, Springboks, Gnus & other animals from a distance but near enough to take photos. We were however, very lucky to get really close to the Hippos, Giraffes, Rhinos & Elephants. The highlight was getting within touching distance of the lions, who were thankfully sleepy & appeared non plussed by our presence. The only animal we didn’t see was the nocturnal leopard.
All In all a great day, although a little expensive. Another highlight on our trip to South Africa

This is a very good opportunity to see the big 5 within a single day trip from Cape Town. The ride to the Aquilla game reserve was great with many variations in landscape and my guide Mike gave me a lot of information and pleasantly answered all the questions I had for him. The game reserve was very nice and we had close ups with animals. We were not able to see leopards, which I think makes sense given the animal's behavior.

My driver Michael made this trip absolutely fabulously memorable. He is an outstanding and proud local with incredible knowledge of South African history. He knows his stuff. He was very early for the pickup…another positive!!!

He literally looked after even the smallest detail such as finding a great place for me to find beef jerky…yay!!!

The safari was good. A basic intro to the big five. Very controlled environment but I knew that going in. Michael took the whole tour to a fantastically memorable level.

Thank you, Michael!

I absolutely loved the buffet that was served at the Anguilla Big Game Reserve, and the food was really good. They provided complimentary drinks at the beginning and halfway through the tour. The drinks included coffee, bottled water or various alcohol drinks.

My tour guide, Mike was the best and ensured an efficient experience from start to finish. Mike gave travel tips, made sure we never waited, provided a scenic tour to the the reserve, and was the most professional guide I have experienced in South Africa. I recommend this tour.
