Visited this museum on a Saturday morning and found ourselves the only visitors for the entire 45 minutes we were there!? It definitely deserves a larger audience: covers a fundamental part of Cape Town history. Not to be missed - well worth the 100 rand admission fee.

If you have hour to spare, this is worth a visit. Downstairs is a permanent exhibition of the old Battery, including hundreds of artifacts and the remains of the Battery walls, which you can touch. Really interesting. Upstairs is a gallery for photographic exhibitions and other art works. We saw wonderful pictures of Mnt. Huangshan, rural China - amazing.
