          A must see!
The view from God's Window over the eastern lowlands of Southeastern Africa is certainly impressive - especially on a day with clear air - but the real treat are Bourke's Luck Potholes. These unreal and bizarre cylindrical rock formations carved out by the Blyde and Treuer rivers look like Erik van Danickens phantasies about ancient aliens drilling these monstrous holes. A must see if you are visiting nearby Krueger NP!

          A SPECIAL PLACE
This is a special place in so many ways. Special because everyone there wants you to have a good time whether it is the people in the restaurants or the Safari Guides. Our guide just bought the place alive. Special because they work with rescue animals that now roam freely and who are well looked after and very healthy. Special because it has provided enormous job opportunities for people in the local area. People who take enormous pride in their jobs. Special because they my grandchildren got to see animals up close.

          Let them eat cake!!!!
Overall afternoon tea was a delight, excellent service, superb selection of teas, pastries and cakes totally indulgent. Sandwiches and baby brioche lacked sufficient filling and were tasteless and quite boring in relation to the rest of the afternoon tea.

          Disappointing and concerning safari experience
When we first arrived we were really impressed, the reception was welcoming and we were excited for our day ahead. The game drive ranger was very robotic and it felt like his knowledge was scripted and lack lustre. There was only one route that all game drive vehicles took so it was like a large scalextric track, everything felt staged. As we were heading out the park at the end, our truck broke down. We had to walk, whilst we were inside the reserve from one truck to another. Then to our surprise our ranger thought it would be a good idea to try and bump start the truck with us all still onboard. This brought a lot of distress to the full truck of people including children. Health and safety was not taken into account at all and all but one person decided it was safer to get off the truck and walk out the reserve back to the main building. This incident has aggravated by back and made the flight home very uncomfortable. I filled in n incident form at the time with McKenzie and was offered a massage which I gratefully accepted and was told that this matter would be taken seriously and escalated, I’ve sent over 10 emails and I’ve had no response from anyone from customer service. The after care service has been non existent and extremely disappointing. If you are looking for a safari I would not recommend this, it just feels like a conveyor belt and money making exercise. The visitor safari experience is not value for money. The facilities are good and it’s clear to see where the money has been spent, spa experience not safari.

          A great trip
We visited in full knowledge that it was a mini safari and that we would see everything within a couple of hours. We weren't disappointed in any way, the guide was knowledgeable and the explanation that some lions and elephants had been rehomed from circuses or hunting reserves made perfect sense. 10000 hectares for many animal's to roam seemed ideal for elephants zebras rhinos ect. If you want a full on safari then maybe it's not for you, but if you want to learn, see animals, have decent food and a comfy room, why not give it a go. We had great fun.

Good experience but not a proper safari
We visited aquila in January 2024. We were picked up and dropped off at our hotel on the day with other people who were collected from their hotels. It was a 2 hour drive to the reserve and you stop half way at a petrol station for refreshments which was good. The van we were in was quite old but had air con. The driver hardly spoke to any of us on the way there or back. When you arrive you have lunch before the safari.lunch was a buffet and there was plenty of choice and the food was very nice. After lunch you go outside and there are several safari vehicles waiting.its a free for all to get on one ! They are open but have covered roofs which is good for cover from the sun. Our driver was really chatty and we saw all the animals and he gave us plenty of time to take photos .he had a good sense of humour and was very informative. You are driven round the reserve and stop half way round for a free drink but the toilets there made the area very smelly. After the drink you are taken back round the reserve by a different route. The tracks are very bumpy but we found this hilarious. Once back you have time to go the gift shop and get a drink before getting back on your minibus. All in all it was an enjoyable day but this isn't a proper safari. It is a flat game reserve where you are driven round in a circle. The lions are in a large gated part of the reserve and the other animals are in the other parts. It's not like being out in the proper Bush but it's a good chance to see the animals if you don't have time for a longer safari.

Excellent experience not far from Cape Town.
This is my second time visiting Aquila. This time I only had time for a day trip. The facility is excellent. I had an excellent lunch followed by a two and a half hour ride to see the animals. We saw all of the big 5 and more. I can highly recommend this experience.

Don't book here as they won't refund you as per their cancellation policy
Save your money and book elsewhere. It's been over FIVE WEEKS since I applied for a refund which was approved, and yet, I've still not received the money owed to me. 🤬 I've sent countless emails and made numerous calls, but all I've received in return are empty promises and excuses. This level of incompetence and disregard for customer satisfaction is utterly unacceptable. Aquila Game Lodge Refund department has you running in circles and after all the communication to be refunded, they revert back with "we are experiencing a backlog".

Excellent short safari that's small enough to see the big 5.
An excellent day out. We stayed overnight nearby and took the early morning option. An excellent buffet breakfast was served when we arrived. We went on a 2.5 Hr tour with a very informative guide. The reserve is small enough to see the animals, unlike larger ones where you may see very few animals. We did get to see all of the big 5, some at very close range including the lions. The elephants were mountain climbing so we couldn't get very close to them. The giraffes were sheltering under the trees because of the heat. After the safari we could use the other facilities, pool etc. to relax before heading back to Cape Town. We decided to stay for the buffet lunch which was also very good and inexpensive. Overall an excellent day out, highly recommended.

          Tourist Trap
A touristtrap that is the Aquila ‘Game’ resort. Besides that it is overpriced it is worse than Disneyland, worse than a zoo. In any case it has nothing to do with a safari. 6 trucks in each truck around 24 people inside, driving altogether to the poor small herd of elephants, then to the 3 rhinos. Worst are the 4 lions which are in a separated area and the poor animals are looking at you with one message: please get me out of here. 5 hippos are getting fed so that people can see them. Ofcourse the lion’s are separated otherwise they will eat the 15 zebras and then the park can close down. Worst however is that during the 2 hour safari all the trucks are stopping at a bar for a drink. Why? Basically because this park is too small to fill 2 hours. So we end up with 120 people in a bar….., on a safari…. Do not go there as it is a waste of your money. The food is not what you expecting with regards to quality price ratio. the game is looking poor and it is just a sad entertainment industry filling the pockets of the owners. I have never seen a touristtrap like this in my life. A joke, a sad place for these few animals. Nothing positive? Well if you have kids plan just a 2 hour drive as they will enjoy it and then leave and enjoy beautiful Africa.

          Thrilling experience.
Don’t believe the other reviews this was a fabulous day out. Stunning venue and lunch was delicious. Our guide was so informative and obviously cared very much about the animals. The animals are wandering freely but also cared for when necessary. We took some amazing photos. Would definitely recommend this trip.

A managed wildlife experience not a safari
This is more like a resort with an outdoor zoo rather than a game reserve. Compared the Addo this is very commercial and a managed game zoo with feeding and enclosure interventions. You get to see plenty of animals but in a managed environment rather than feeling that you are out in the wild.

Our curated wine experience was incredible. Our tour guide Roger ensured we learnt at each farm, tasted the best wines at each farm and walked away feeling amazing. It was the best experience, and Roger was a wonderful host. We are very glad to have had Roger as our guide. He ensured we received the best wines at each farm, and assisted us with choosing our favorites from each farm to purchase. Thank you Roger for the most fantastic day, despite the rain.

This was a very enjoyable experience. We visited five vineyards, tasting wine at each one and enjoying a very good meal at lunchtime. All of those we visited were very hospitable and the whole day was well organised. It was fun to see a group celebrating a fortieth birthday having a very merry day!! Good value for money and an experience not to be missed by wine drinkers when visiting this area.

Our driver, Ernesto, was the best part of the tour. I give him 5 stars! Due the the weather and the limitations of the wine tram due to recent flooding, he truly adapted the experience to our interests. He actually ended up taking us to a brewery and to the last prison where Nelson Mandela was released. The wine tours are for people truly interested in wine. The tram part is kind of pointless if you can get a driver to take you around instead. With the tram, you are very restricted by their timing. If you do not get to the bus within an hour, you have to stay at that winery for another hour. Honestly, you can find a driver/tour guide in Cape Town for a better price with more flexibility.

Since I am not a wine-drinker, I went on the Winetram simple for the experience. And what an experience!!!! I LOVED every minute of it!! The HOHO experience is easy once you get the hang of it. The tram literally appears at your stop every hour. Take a tip and do some research on the particular farms you want to visit before you leave, This makes choosing easier.

The entire day was phenomenal though....much more than just wines!

The Wine Tram is just perfect. Very nice guides and also alot of great estates to visit. We did the yellow line, which i can hishly recomend. You should not miss out the lunch at Dieu Donne! I also did a wine tour in Stellenbosch, but the wine tram is much better.
