Do not expect them to confirm a booking
We had a bad experience with booking our overnight safari with Aquila. I noticed a mistake in our booking date and that the date booked for had already passed. Aquila did not contact me to confirm the booking, neither did they contact me when we did not arrive on the booked date. When I noticed the mistake days later, the customer service agent was very rude and unhelpful over the phone stating that it is unreasonable for me to expect them to call hundreds of guests that are no shows. I eventually got a hold of a manager who was able to move our date- for an additional price of course. The game drive was as most reviews state: feels like you are driving around in a zoo. The rooms are average- very very noisy, strange noises coming from the electrical DB board and had a strange smell. The food was decent and the highlight of our stay.

        Wonderful high tea
We had a lovely experience at the Mount Nelson Afternoon Tea. Good service especially from Craig who made us feel so welcome. The Food and tea were exceptional and the lounge room so beautiful. Overall, a wonderful experience.

        Mom's memorable 50th!
We enjoyed a lovely high tea experience for my mother's 50th birthday. We were attended to with great care by our waitress Cheslyn and everything was explained perfectly by Craig. This was definitely a memorable outing, and the scones - believe it or not - was the absolute BEST I've ever had! Thank you to Munchi (I hope I got this right!) at reception who greeted with such enthusiasm as we left, biggest smile ever!

A superb safari experience led by the excellent, knowledgeable and hilarious Mark. We saw Rhino, lions, hippopotamus, elephants, antelope, buffalo, ostrich, giraffe, zebra. Don’t forget to take cash to tip the excellent tour guide. Great value and unforgettable experience

        A real hidden gem!
If you are in Cape Town there is really no need to go to JHB for a real Game Drive experience as it is all here at Aquila. It was a bit cold but we had the most stunning Game Drive spotting all the animals and at the end enjoyed a drink under the stars before heading back. On the get go the Elephants came to greet and driving with the lions what an experience. International tourists will enjoy this coupled with Cape Town beaches without having to travel a million miles! The whole place from the fantastic buffet meals, the star gazing, the drives and the relaxing areas is stunning! I really suggest an overnight experience to experience everything this resort has to offer. The staff was friendly to the max! This place will definitely see me and my family again

        A must see experience!
The animals were so close and we got to see every animal but the leopard, the guide was extremely knowledgeable, great experience. Only complaint was the safari ride was very rough on the body.

        Tenacious tour guide finds giraffes
Mdu was a terrific tour guide. He honored our request to find giraffes close up. It took 6 1/2 hours of searching the Hluhluwe Reserve and he found them. A group of 12 giraffes grazed 10 yards from us. Amazing trip, thanks Mdu!

Maximum fun and wild animal viewing in a single day trip from Cape Town
Perfect day trip. Didn’t expect to have a great first safari experience relatively close to Cape Town and not need an overnight stay. 2+ hour drive out, great lunch provided by the hotel, and then a 2 hour safari tour where we saw lions, Cape Town buffalo, ostriches, giraffes, hippos (only tops coming out of water since it was midday), rhinos, elans, zebras and baboons.

        Rough Sailing
The staff were incredible. The met every need. However the water and weather was way too rough to sail. There 8 to 10 ft swells and two squalls. 80 percent of the group was sick. The trip should have been canceled. Mr partner is a retired Navy Ship captain and was worried as was one of the crew.

Excellent service from Miss Silindile (waitress) at wimpy and the food was very delicious I'm willing to come back again
There's this waitress named Silindile, light skinned, she served me very well, I am coming back to wimpy just because of her service.

Anticipation and excitement high! Thrilling to ride up relatively close to the animals. Great photos!
Our transport there and back was great. Our driver was friendly, knowledgeable, and very safe. The first site of the facility increased our excitement. Beautiful place. Lunch was very tasty, everyone was polite and eager to assist. Our safari guide was friendly and very knowledgeable. Gave us lots of interesting information about the animals we saw. Though we did see lots of different animals, I wish there were more. However that didn’t dim the initial excitement. We all took lots of pictures and had a great time! It was a very good first safari!!!

Wonderful staff, small reserve with limited animal quantities
If you've never been on a game drive before, and/or are taking children, Aquila is great. Rustic lodge, good food, wonderful staff. If you've done a larger game drive/safari on a larger property, this may feel slightly underwhelming. It's always cool to see animals (and we did see hippos, giraffes eland, springbok, lions, elephants, baboons and zebra), but this has more of a feel of a conservation refuge (which it is) rather than seeing animals in the wild in their natural habitat. Kudos to staff for handing out blankets and ponchos, as we went on a rainy day!

Loved this experience. My friend is an animal lover and I am happy she got to experience this. We saw all of the animals and I was particularly excited to see the lions. We saw them all gathered together like a family. It was amazing.

The view from God's Window over the eastern lowlands of Southeastern Africa is certainly impressive - especially on a day with clear air - but the real treat are Bourke's Luck Potholes. These unreal and bizarre cylindrical rock formations carved out by the Blyde and Treuer rivers look like Erik van Danickens phantasies about ancient aliens drilling these monstrous holes.
A must see if you are visiting nearby Krueger NP!
