About
Explore the Isimangaliso World Heritage park, from the deck of a boat cruising up Lake St Lucia. The word isimangaliso is a Zulu word meaning “a miracle” or “something wondrous”. St Lucia is a small town on the East coast of South Africa. It is surrounded by a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This town is at the heart of magnificent natural coastal forests, wild animals, majestic bird life, breath-taking beaches and hospitable people. Isimangaliso Wetland Park was proclaimed a world heritage site in 1999. We will cruise past snorting hippos, fish eagles fishing and crocodiles basking in the sun on the banks of Lake St. Lucia. Isimangaliso Wetland Park is bird lovers paradise. 450 bird species can also be found in this area, making it a birders paradise. Isimangaliso Wetland Park is home to South Africa’s largest hippo population.

We depart Richards Bay and head north to Isimangaliso Wetland Park. Sunscreen and hats on, we’re off on our boat cruise. The boat departs from the Sunset Jetty. After all the excitement of watching hippos, crocs and beautiful birds, it’s time for lunch (own account). Time permitting - we walk off our lunch by visiting the craft markets and take a walk on the boardwalk which leads to the mouth and to the beach. We can dip our feet in the Indian Ocean to cool off from the Zululand summer.

Rare opportunity to see black and white rhinos
Home to Africa's Big Five- we saw elephant, Cape Buffalo, lion, and rhino on our safari. We did not see leopard but met people that saw three in the early morning on the day we traveled.

Fantastic well organised safari with fabulous lunch provided.
Brilliant well organised day. We were on board a cruise ship, but there was good communication to ensure we knew when to meet and where when we disembarked the ship. The guide was superb, and was very informative as we were travelling to the park. Once in the park he worked really hard to make sure we saw as many animals as possible. Breakfast and lunch were provided, and were superb and home cooked. Thoroughly recommend this tour.

Teshni is a very professional and personable guide and host. She worked with our group to customize tours based on the time we had in port and our interests. She had excellent recommendations and responses to all of our queries, and went above and beyond to make sure we had an excellent experience. I highly recommend her services.

Moments with Big 5 under african skies.
It was real wildlife experience in African game reserve. Teshni planned this trip to game reserve very well and organized, she and guide (Johan) ensured that we will see Big 5 here and we did see them. It was just perfect day with shivering in the morning and blue sky in afternoon, this was unique experience. The timing and quality of breakfast and lunch was just awesome. One day , we hope to do this tour again. Thank you Teshni, all the best.

Best Safari we did in whole South Africa
We've been on a cruise-ship an have had at least some safaris at other destinations on our cruise (because my wife really love it, seeing animals in their natural habitat). We were a small group (4 persons) and Teshni was our tour-guide. She did a real wonderful job!! Knowing her way around is a premise one could expect, when booking a safari. But she really knew spots where the animals were real close (kindly check out our photos) Teshni was taking excellent care of our small group and was responsive for request, we approached. On our way to the game reserve (and back to the ship) we've had free wifi in the van; which is most convenient, when you are traveling from abroad. We had some delicious sandwiches for lunch and we really must say: This was the best safari, we did in whole South Africa. We highly recommend this company!! Thank you, Teshni!

          Real Africa
It was a wonderful and authentic trip to an African game preserve. The jeeps were in communication with one another and the drivers helped facilitate a complete experience for every traveler. The guide was very knowledgeable and gave us a close-up look at the animals. There was even a family of warthogs living right near the parking lot, and they came out to say hello! There’s a small gift shop that sells a wide variety of handmade Zulu crafts at the preserve. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

          Takes your breath away
A wonderful day in the game reserve. Really well organised and professional set up. Teshni helped us plan and organise the trip (2 couples) and we couldn’t have been more pleased with how the day worked out. Our guide, Ashley, really shared his passion for the wildlife and the country. The majestic sights in the game reserve simply take your breath away! I hope we can return one day.

          Not just a game drive.........
Wow! Teshni did not disappoint. Even if we did not see that cheetah and her 2 cubs feasting on a kill with vultures waiting on the side to clean up, the trip would have still been exceptional. I was given a wealth of knowledge by Teshni that I did not think would be possible after frequenting the park for more than 20 years now. Almost every sighting of nature and wildlife has a new meaning to me now. Awseome job Teshni. I wish you all the success you deserve.

          Amazing Rhinos
Everything was amazing, left the cruise port, by lunch we had seen just about every animal you were hoping to see with their baby, had lunch and then saw more amazing animals, incredible experience, very well run, kind and informative and made it back to the cruise port in plenty of time.

          Safari
We had an amazing day with Teshni. My sister and I prebooked this tour so we would have an opportunity to see wildlife when we were in port. Teshni picked us up promptly at the pier when we docked. She gave us a big bag of snacks, later provided us breakfast and then lunch. The food was excellent too. She's a good driver and was able to show us so much in the few hours we had. She was careful around the wild animals but also made sure we had great views and could take pictures. I would highly recommend this tour! We toured on the 26th of December. There was 1 other couple from the ship that toured with us .... we knew in advance they would be joining us but had never met them but we all became friends that day with Teshni and each other!

Magical Day at Hluhluwe/iMfolozi Game Reserve
Six of us took this tour as a shore excursion from Richard's Bay in December '22. Our ship suffered several logistical issues entering Richard's Bay and as a result we were delayed by at least 1.5 hours getting off the ship. Nevertheless our guide Teshni greeted us cheerfully as we disembarked and got us underway immediately. Unfortunately our delays meant that the plan for our day ashore would have to be revised and the decision was made to give up the hippo & crocodile cruise in St. Lucia and spend all our time in the Hluhluwe/Imfolozi Reserve. Although that could have been disappointing, it turned out to be absolutely serendipitous! Even as we entered the Hluhluwe/Imfolozi reserve we spotted a herd of impala grazing on the cliffs. And then the day unfolded with sighting after sighting of white rhinos, zebras, warthogs, monkeys and many others. Teshni was wonderful in explaining what we saw--both the animals and the fascinating landscapes. Often we would sit quietly and just observe a group of animals. I was amazed that we were were able to get so close! Teshni provided both a snack bag of "local" fun snacks and a more substantial meal of pasta, fruit and chocolate. It was all delicious and meant that we could make the most of our time at the reserve. Teshni always seemed to know where the best spots for viewing wildlife would be. As we made our way back toward the park exit we were lucky enough to see elephants--first on the hillside at a distance, then more in the road ahead of us and finally right next to our vehicle. This was truly magical! At this point I felt that our day had been a bucket-list level success, but we had yet another treat. Dusk was descending as we passed a hillside where a herd (tower!) of giraffes were standing. We stopped to watch as they gazed calmly back at us. Giraffes have been a favorite of mine forever so this was, for me, a perfect end to a very special day. I can't thank Teshni and Under African Skies enough for the professional way our tour was handed despite our challenges in the port of Richard's Bay. I would repeat this day again in a heartbeat!

The tour was great, we saw hippos, crocs and even and elephant. The problem was I booked and paid for a private tour. At the last minute it was changed to a 10 person group.

As with every group tour, one couple was 15 minutes late, no apologies and the woman could not have been sicker. No mask on the ride out, the guide made her put one on on the way back. She ruined the trip and never apologized for anything. I am sure we will all be sick after being in a small space with this woman for 3 hours. So rude.

Unfortunately the weather was not good this day. It started with us getting picked up 30 minutes late in rainy weather. We did see a lot of Hippos, but no crocodiles.
