- Suzan32700Zulu BattlefieldsWe visited the Zulu Battlefields from Richards Bay cruise port. It was a long day and only possible as we were berthed overnight. Our guide drive all the way from Durban to enable us to see this area and experience a little part of Zulu history . The journey was more than 3 hours but we saw lovely scenery along the way . The museums at the 2 battlefields were informative and the areas sensitive to both Zulu and British casualties.A moving experience.

Tim Brown tours were straightforward to book with, answered emails promptly and kept us up to date with the arrangements for picking us up. It was a long drive but Sibo was a careful, safe driver and it was so interesting to see the different, often very beautiful, areas we travelled through. He is very knowledgeable and explained everything clearly. He looked after us well and took great trouble to ensure that we gained the most possible from the whole trip. The information and video at the battlefield sites were very good, enabling us to understand why and where everything happened. The landscape there is so peaceful and it is strange to reflect on the violent history it has seen.

He also gave us a great summary of the history of the Zulu people and an insight into their customs, past and present. We saw all but the lion and much much more than we expected. We stayed in the budget accommodation at the lodge Hillcrest and found it comfortable. The food in the restaurant was very good. Tim Brown did the organising and he was very available by phone and email and made an effort to accommodate us at short notice. I would thoroughly recommend the company and this tour.
- ktuitt00Hluhluwe Safari from Richards BayWe booked a private safari of Hluhluwe with a pickup from Richards Bay where our cruise ship was in port. Our driver, Nicholas waited patiently for over 2 hours for immigration to clear the ship. However, once on route, the trip was excellent! We arrived at the park and our guide Dumie took us in the 4x4. We were litterly 2 minutes into the park when we saw zebra's, rhino mom and baby, wart hogs, and then a huge bull elephant came strolling down the road right infront of our jeep. We arrived in advance of the tour buses from the ship, so had a head start on all the crowds. We saw so many different animals, most from very close. There had recently been a rainy period, so the park was very lush and green which made it more difficult to spot the animals, but Dumie was great at finding all their hiding spots. We couldn't have asked for a better day!

"This safari was an unforgettable experience! The tour guide and driver were very genuine, personable, knowledgeable, and hilarious. Our family were staying in Durban and the driver was able to pick us up from our Airbnb in a very clean 13-person van. He even had a cooler for extra water. The entire experience we felt very safe with the excellent door to door service. Highly recommend the open air vehicle for the full experience. The guide was a very intelligent tracker and was able to get track elephants to the point where they crossed right in front of us. Our family highly recommends this specific tour! Hopefully you can get Nicholas from Tim Brown tours for the Hluhluwe/Imfoloze Game reserve."

An incredible day adventure in Hluhluwe. Despite not seeing all the big 5 on that day, we experience a great trip through the park seeing Impalas, buffalo, zebra, wildebeest, elephant, giraffe, warthog, brown snake eagle and even a White Rhino! Our lovely guide drove through the park giving facts and indication about wildlife, but also had the best eye to spot the animals who sometimes play hide and seek. Take a pair of binoculars if you can, a bottle of water and some sunscreen in order to make the most of it. Tim Brown team accommodated with some last minute friends who wanted to join and everything was done swiftly and with great communication. I highly recommend, it's something you have to experience once in your lifetime!

We opted for the three day tour for a better chance of seeing the wildlife and were not disappointed. The stop en route to the cheetah sanctuary was a wonderful experience To my astonishment we were able to go inside the cat pens and get to within a few feet of the animals.
On arrival at Hluhluwe itself our driver/guide Sibo took us on a game drive and a further two over the following days. He is a wealth of knowledge and took excellent care of us.

Great experience with Tim and team. Booked late as we weren’t sure we could fit it in and they were able to make adjustments and accommodate us (4 people).
Nicholas our driver and guide collected us from Umhlanga at 6am and we had a pleasant and engaging drive up to the park - discussed lots of aspect of interest to us and he was good humoured and knowledgeable about KZN and the vast cultures. Game drive was great. We saw loads of elephant up close and personal (in van) rhino, loads of different bok, hogs etc. No lions this time but that’s what makes this special - it’s real.
Good engaging drive back again with lots of interesting conversation with Nicholas who didn’t run out of energy and conversation.

It was an amazing tour. We used a jeep style car in very good condition. Cibo, our driver was a very careful driver, very polite and communicative. He was very updated about the reserve and he did his best to satisfy us. Many animals and birds in a beautiful area. However, lions did not do us the favour.... next time....

Our day started with Jonas picking us up promptly for our 3 hour drive to the game reserve! We stopped for breakfast and any other snacks we wanted, water was provided.
Jonas has a great up beat personality and was knowledgeable about all of the animals he spotted. Pretty sure all of the guides we had, had binoculars as part of their eyeballs :-D.
We saw so many giraffe, rhino, a lion way on the mountain, several birds, a crocodile, monkeys, and buffalo.
We stopped for lunch and the finished the day at dusk for the ride back to Umhlanga.
It was a great day, our guide was great and we were able to see so many animals.
Highly recommend.

Fantastic day tour in which I learnt so much about South Africa, it’s people, culture and its animals from Thabo.
Saw a large variety of animals in the park and has an absolutely fantastic day.
Thabo was punctual, informative and above all very friendly and knowledgable.
Driving was extremely safe but very efficient.
Thabo Let myself and a fellow member of the tour dictate what we wanted to do and could honestly answer all our questions.

I did a solo trip with guide Sibo to Hluhluewe game preserve in Dec, 2022 while in Durban for work. Short story: amazing! Sibo was a fantastic, patient, knowledgeable and safe guide. I saw elephants, rhinos, wildebeests, zebras, giraffes, plenty of antelope (and variants), baboons, monkeys, a water monitor, many birds and my favorite warthogs! The cats were elusive. Lunch was great at the lodge. The trip to and from Durban was enjoyable as Sibo and I chatted about things. I look forward to returning with my family and hope to secure Sibo, or a similar guide from Tim Brown's service.

Our safari in Hluhuwe was the best start to my groups week-long stay in South Africa. Tim and his tour guides are so knowledgable about all of the wildlif and South African culture. We saw 4/5 of the Big 5 all thanks to our great tour guide. Safari with Tim Brown is something you cannot skip if you are making the trip to South Africa. I would recommend it to anyone, and it is an experience I would definitely do again if I ever return to the beautiful country.

We did a short safari out of Durban to the Hluhluwe game reserve. Sibo was just a great guide and lovely man. He was happy to do whatever we wanted to do and see and was knowledgeable about the area and the wildlife. He was great with the kids and easy to get along with.

My husband and I stayed in a unit that had a private bath, one bedroom,kitchen,living room,private bathroom and deck. We chose it because we wanted a private bathroom. The unit slept two, but perhaps they could add cots.
We had breakfast, lunch and dinner in the very nice restaurant which is right on the property. With 2 safaris a day, we never spent time in the kitchen or the living room. Hope this helps.
