About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- abetshu0 contributionsMy StayExceptional service ,the host was very welcoming. The bathroom and my bedroom were clean and was also assisted with a smile all the time. Also had a place, safe place to park my car which gave me peace and allowed me to sleep peacefullyWritten 24 May 2020
- dms19270 contributionsBy the beachWe only stayed three night which was enough to explore what was around the area, it rained most the time so it was not enjoyable, Durban has a high drug problem and every ten steps some would ask for money loads of homeless but if you plan it right it’s can be a good stop off from joburg to cape town.Written 13 May 2020
- Siki M0 contributionsCuriocity Durban - Make new friends.I arrived in the evening and was asked to join 30 Seconds Board game, that was so welcoming. I was staying in one of the mixed dorms, it was so much fun meeting new people. The bar is the fun part of Curiocity. I made so many new friends in my 3 nights stay, I am definitely going back.Written 9 March 2020
- michaelrosenthal0 contributionsA Wonderful Hostel In DurbanI spent 6 nights at Curiocity Durban - I originally booked 3 nights and added another 3 nights because I was unable to join a tour that had wait-listed me and joined another tour that started 3 days later from Durban. I was very pleased with the attentiveness, helpfulness, friendliness, and dedication to providing excellent service from the entire staff of this hostel. The 8 bed dorm rooms are extremely large and have access to a balcony. Large lockers under the bottom bunk easily accomodated my 2 bags. The hostel is located in a decent neighborhood and is 3 blocks from a supermarket and 5 blocks from Duban's South Beach section of the waterfront. Highly recommended!Written 23 January 2020
- brianf43020200 contributionsEven superheroes stay at CuriocityEven though it was only for one night, I arrived feeling exhausted, but left feeling recharged and ready for the next day's mission. The warm environment and panoramic views make Curiocity an awesome base camp!Written 14 January 2020
- andreacl0 contributionsLoud rap music for five hours straight - would not recommend this hostelWe stayed here for two nights and it was not a good experience for a few reasons: the atmosphere at the hostel is not very nice.. the rooms are without any furniture - there is not even a nightstand. Also, they played THE LOUDEST rap/trap music in the commutative/main area FOR FIVE HOURS!!!!!! I went out of our room where we tried to relax to check if there was an event going on or something like that, but no - only one dj stood there and played his music?!?! You could here it no matter where you went to hide. They also play really loud rap music at the breakfast area.... you cannot have a relaxing time here at this hostel. However, if you like loud rap music, the hostel is for you. It has a good location.Written 30 December 2019
- tkhany8498920 contributionsHorrible experience, ruined vacationOMG visiting that place was a nightmare. The receptionist was drinking alcohol when we arrived, told us we must go check out the room we booked. To our surprise he showed us a room filled with naked men, we as women could not sleep in the Same room. After having a lengthy conversation the receptionist Kay insisted he is not going to help us and put us in a female only room. It either we take it or leave it. He went far as to tell us he owns the place when we requested to speak to his superior. Since we booked through booking.com he said we must take up our complaint with them and request for a refund with them. it was late and we were force to take the room cause The money was deposited 6 months ago to backpackers and Kay said we must call booking.com for the refund late that night. The insults he was throwing at us and the disrespect left a bitter taste in my mouth. NEVER AGAIN AM I USING BOOKING.COM OR VISITING CURIOSITY BACKPACKERS.Written 30 December 2019
- PreciadoV920 contributionsAlways GreatI have been a guest at Curiosity several times and I am never disappointed. The facility is clean and well managed. Staff is always welcoming and wearing a smile. The location can be intimidating, however staff are a great resource for information on how to navigate the busy streets of Durban.Written 17 December 2019
- Mary B0 contributionsGreat atmosphere, staff and locationHad a wonderful time at Curiocity Durban. The hostel environment was great - clean, comfortable and open. The staff were wonderful and helpful. Walking distance to the beach and a short walk to other city attractions - the city walking tour offered by Curiocity staff is highly recommended. Would definitely stay here again.Written 25 November 2019
- Janet T0 contributionsSuper stay!Fantastic chilled out place with great, friendly staff. Would highly recommend if you are looking to chill in Durban! Good facilities and great cleanliness. Good brekky and a good bar and chill out area!Written 17 November 2019

- Julepe d0 contributionsNice placeThe hostel is well located and it has a good vibe, although could be too quiet. The bar is really amazing! The bar tenders are really friendly and a lot of cocktails and nice drinks are offered. The rooms are really nice and comfortable.Written 1 November 2019
- saxonupgkhruz7eb20190 contributionsExcellenceThe staff overall were amazing to say the least. They were kind, welcoming and attentive. The guests at curiosity were some of the best people I have ever met in my life. This place feels like a community made of different minded strangersWritten 24 October 2019
- edaliday0 contributionsFriendly placeThe staff here are really friendly and did a great job with local recommendations and the tour we booked. Thanks again to Kay for being such a great host! The rooms were simple but clean. The breakfast was surprisingly basic (come on guys, at least provide a toaster for the bread!) but it was also very cheap so can't complain. Laundry service was really fast. The communal areas were nice with a decent kitchen, plenty of seating and a comfortable bar area. Lots of activities provided - we enjoyed a Zulu film on Movie Night. There's an obvious "stoner vibe" here and whilst nobody ever smoked in front of us I'd suggest you want to be comfortable with the vibe. Plenty of people will like this, especially at a backpackers, but worth pointing out! Probably not the best place for kids.Written 9 October 2019
- ramats0bane0 contributionsGood serviceExcellent service.nice breakfast Also near the beach.the building outside is scary.we did not reduce any your guide.some cockroaches in the rooms.most of the visitors are smoking in the rooms and I would suggest that adults rooms not to be placed near boysand girlsWritten 29 September 2019
