Yeoville is one of the most diverse suburbs in South Africa, known for being highly Afro-cosmopolitan with many African nationals found in one square mile. The area is also rich in history and due to the many different Africans that live there, offers you an authentic view (and taste) of Africa & the cuisines.

          One with Nature!
A perfect blend of wildlife and culture. Pilanesberg National Park is stunning, and we managed to see four of the Big Five! Lesedi Cultural Village was a beautiful experience with wonderful performances and informative displays, Wow. And our guide made sure we were well taken care of throughout the day!

          A wonderful experience
This was a Great day out! The safari was incredible, though we didn't spot a leopard. The cultural village was a delightful addition, showcasing the diversity of South African tribes. The lunch provided was excellent, and the transfers were seamless. A well-organized tour that’s worth every penny.

          Amazing experience!
This tour was a fantastic way to experience the essence of South Africa in a single day! Pilanesberg National Park was breathtaking, and we were lucky enough to see all of the Big Five. The visit to Lesedi Cultural Village was equally enriching. Our guide Franck was knowledgeable and friendly, making the whole day enjoyable. Highly recommend this combo tour!

Dishonest and Unresponsive - AVOID Honest Travel Experience!
Dishonest and Unresponsive - AVOID Honest Travel Experience! My experience with Honest Travel Experience has been nothing short of a nightmare. I booked festival tickets for Swaziland, and Tye assured me everything was set. When I asked Tye on Friday if our tickets were secured, he didn't respond. It's now Tuesday, and he still hasn't replied. He just reads our messages and leaves us blue-ticked. We’ve tried reaching out to other representatives in the company including one of the owners Franck, but they are equally unresponsive. This is beyond frustrating. I have so many questions and no answers. We don't even know whether to start packing or not. Why are they doing this to us? 💔☹️😢 This lack of communication and respect is unacceptable. My anxiety is through the roof, and this whole ordeal has been incredibly stressful. Honest Travel Experience is anything but honest. 1. DO NOT USE THIS AGENCY: They are unreliable and disrespectful. 2. ZERO customer service: They ignore your messages and provide no support. 3. Tye is a joke: His unprofessionalism and lack of response are appalling. Do yourself a favor and stay far away from this company. They are a complete scam!

You MUST book at least 1 tour!
I did a few tours with Honest Travel because I had such a good time and the staff was so kind and welcoming. I was mostly with Malone & he made sure I had the best time. I’d do it again and again. As a solo traveler, this tour was amazing alone with the sunset dining and African food. I loved it all♥️♥️♥️♥️

          Celebrating us!
I would like to start off by saying there was an issue with my reservation while being in South Africa. However it was resolved when speaking to Tye! Just make sure you ask questions upon reserving so that everything is aligned. Aside from this, the night life was super sharp. The people we met were very genuine. There was a tour guide- Malone, Rambo and Romeo who did an OUTSTANDING job. My business partner and I felt super welcomed. We went to museums, learned history, ate great food, danced etc. They went above and beyond to make sure we felt safe and had a lot of fun. I would rate the entire experience 8/10 BUT the night life 10/10 — I would HIGHLY recommend. Thank you for the memory!

          Great art, great tour!
There are so many talented artists both trained and untrained in South Africa! I especially loved the art gallery in the Ellis park arena. We learned about each artist and the emotions they wanted to show in their art work. In Victoria Yards, we also visited a distillery with the most tasteful gin you can find, using oranges only grown and found in this specific part of South Africa.

A very reliable and cool tour guide.
A very reliable and cool tour guide. It is a good choice to tour the city of Johannesburg by bicycle. Since I was the only one in the cycling group, I asked him to take me to the place where the street photography was taken. Got a lot of satisfying photos. Without him, I wouldn’t even dare to take out my camera. He can solve all the troubles caused when taking pictures. I encountered some small problems during the itinerary. Since I purchased a 5-hour trip for one day, the message from the tour guide company was a half day tour , he was a nice person and took me ride for 4 hours (not 5 hours). Travelers who like photography can participate.

          Nightlife in JNB
I found out about the nightlife tour the last minute of my Johannesburg visit and I decided to take part, I had much fun and I wish I knew about this earlier, this is a great Idea especially if u are traveling solo. Gio is really doing a good job, taking care of his clients and making sure they are comfortable engaging in conversations so you don’t feel bored

Explore Jozi by Night with a Local!!!
I decided to do a little stay-cation, and this nightlife was one of the tours I booked from Honest Travel. Gio was an exceptional host, and I enjoyed every bit of this tour. I highly recommend it if you want to explore Joburg at night but want to do so with a local. I joined a couple on this tour and felt very safe throughout.

this is a tour you don’t want to miss out on. It takes you deep within the community in a way that most tourists would not be able to do without a guide. By doing that they also allow you to taste the most authentic African cuisine there is. It’s not something you’ll forget about any time soon.

What an amazing experience! My wife and I began our South African honeymoon in Johannesburg with an incredible food tour of Yeoville. It was like an episode of Anthony Bourdain's "Parts Unknown". Our guides Ty and Dalu were super knowledgeable and so friendly. They really got to know us and we to know them as they gave us many recommendations about future travel destinations in and out of their country that we should explore. The food was amazing as we got to sample authentic food from 4 restaurants, one each from Ghana, Cameroon, South Africa, and Ethiopia. The whole fish at the Cameroon restaurant, that was simply grilled with fantastic spices and slices of tomato and onion, is still something we are telling everyone about and ranks number 1 of all the meals we ate over our 12 day honeymoon. Unfortunately, our guides could not pry the recipe from the wonderful woman who owned the place. They told us the stories behind the food and we met lots of great people along the way. We heard a very extensive history of the area, the cultures, and Johannesburg in general. We also got to walk through the local market and see all the vegetables, meats, and spices everyone uses to cook. Yeoville is not the safest area but these guys made us feel completely at ease. No issues. If you really want to get to know Johannesburg and the culture/food, this is the trip for you. I highly recommend that you spend an afternoon with Ty and Dalu. You won't be disappointed!

Celebrated our anniversary with this incredible food adventure. We were completely blown away. Breathtaking city views, electric vibes, welcoming people, and amazingly authentic taste sensations from Ethiopia, Cameroon, Congolese and Southern Afrofusion. Franck and his team from Honest Travel Experiences treated us like royalty and were super hospitable and friendly. We were really blown away by their knowledge of the area, it's cultures, people and history. Thanks for a hell of a night! We will be back for our next adventure soon!!

        PLUS
+ The hosts generally make you feel like you were in safe hands .
+ They educated the group on the cultural background of the different African foods.
+ They kindly reminded us not to over feast, as there was more food to come.
+ Hosts were happy to arrange transportation home.
+ Hosts were happy to answer general travel queries and provide advise/guidance for abroad visitors.

        MINUS
        - They should consider making “beer tasting” an add on choice for travellers willing to explore African beers.

This was an incredible tour that really showed us the hidden gems of Yeoville, the mosaic of migrant cultures and life in the city. We had an incredible time, and ate until we couldn't any more. Franck is a great tour guide and has a wonderful vision, and the rest of the team were stars! We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves!

An authentic, delicious and lively experience. The Honest guys know the hidden gems in the city and share their knowledge and information freely with their guests. Loved that all the restaurants on the African food tour were within walking distance, great to explore a part of the city that otherwise would’ve been lost to me. Ended the evening with a Vodacom tower selfie. Great experience! Would definitely join again and also recommend it to others - locals and tourists alike.

Because of all the changes made necessary by the pandemic, I was treated to a private tour by the company founder himself, Mr Franck Leya, and his friend Jo (who has just started his own food tour business and was tagging along to see the maestro at work). I don’t think it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that Franck is Yeoville and Yeoville is Franck. Having moved to South Africa as a child, Franck has a story about every nook and cranny of the Berea, Yeoville and Hillbrow area and seems to bump into friends at every turn!
It is tricky to rate the food tour fairly because the ongoing health crisis restricted what we could do safely. Some of the venues that the tour would normally visit had to be cut as they were not ‘Covid-compliant’ and some were not open due to the liquor ban making business difficult. Another thing to note is that most of the traditional African meals are eaten with your hands, something that is usually a very enjoyable social interaction, but not safe in the present predicament.
That being said, I would probably pay Franck just to hang out with me for a day as he is an extremely switched on guy and has a wealth of knowledge and insight to share. I will book this tour again when the world is back to normal, but already feel much richer for having experienced this neighbourhood and will watch its ongoing regeneration with a vested interest. Top tip – pack some extra wet wipes and maybe a Spork for now.

This was an excellent tour and well worth booking. Walking the Maboneng neighbourhood with Jo, a local from neighbouring Yeoville, was an experience. The origins of the street art and graffiti, the vibrancy of the local people, the amazing smells and tastes of the food and the local school kids made it all very memorable. We tried South African ‘burgers’, Nigerian maize and spicy beef stew and Ghanaian rice and crispy fish all washed down with local beers. Jo was very patient and accommodating as we stopped for photos, asked questions and gave excellent commentary in English for me and French for the other guests. Highly recommend 💫

This was such a wonderful and unique experience to taste foods from across the African diaspora while taking in the sights and sounds of Joburg! What you may not know is that the city is a melting pot of many different African cultures. As a result, there is a lot of richness in the cuisine available. The guides with Honest Tours are very thorough and knowledgeable and you can tell that they are at home when walking around. We had the pleasure of being with Tye for this tour and we felt secure the whole route in his presence. It was an ideal introduction to the downtown area of the city! We decided to do more tours with the Honest Tour company after this one!
