Informative & safe tour in downtown Johannesburg
Mulalo, who was our guide, was very knowledgeable, he showed us several significant places in downtown Johannesburg. He’s reliable and friendly. The 3 hours of the tour went very fast, during which we’ve learnt a lot. Throughout the whole tour we felt safe. We can only recommend this tour.

      Great overview of Soweto
Great experience to round out our learning about the history of Joburg and South Africa. Taking the bikes meant that we got to cover lots of ground and see many neighborhoods - not to mention it's fun! Bikes were in good working order and it was easy to follow the guide. Our guide was kind and informative, and the lunch was delicious! Would definitely recommend this tour. Side note: we are fairly fit so didn't mind riding the hills on a single speed bike, but perhaps consider your fitness level for this tour.

Informative and fun morning bike tour!
Themba was a wonderful tour guide! The tour started in the main square where he gave us a great history of the neighborhood. Once on the bikes, we were able to cover 12.5kms during our 2 hours tour. We saw so much and really enjoyed the morning bike ride. The bikes and helmets provided were good and allowed to get up and down the rolling terrain.

      Great tour
Maweza was fantastic. He's a passionate historian, clear in his explanations and warm in his interactions. The poverty tourism aspect of walking through the slum area I found uncomfortable, but it's done with a resident who explained the benefits for the community (thanks Laurence).

      Incredible tour & guide!
Our guide, Themba, was fantastic! He knew so much about Soweto history, culture, and traditions. He answered all of our questions and took us to a great lunch spot where we ate kota. We thoroughly enjoyed our tour of Soweto and were especially glad to have done so via biking. I highly recommend this experience!

      Memorable day at Soweto
I enjoyed the four-hour Soweto walking tour with Themba. It felt like walking with a friend, especially since I was the only one on the tour that day. The tour starts at the Hector Pieterson Museum and then goes through Vilakazi Street in Orlando West, where Nelson Mandela and Desmond Tutu, both Nobel laureates, once lived. It continues into Orlando East, with a minibus-taxi ride included, and ends at Soweto Towers. You can choose to go to a township or the Bara Mall. Themba mentioned that the bicycle tour covers more ground, but I was happy to walk since it was a more personalized and intimate experience. I had a Kota sandwich, and as I write this review, I'm enjoying the chewing gum with fact nuggets that Themba gave me. The starting point at Vilakazi Café is good too, with good coffee and knick-knacks to buy. I also visited a township, guided by a resident, and felt safe and well-taken care of throughout. It was a great tour and a memorable day. One tip is to contact the operator before the day of the tour and also the morning before you leave so that the guide appears on time and you're certain the tour is happening.

      Very informative experience
Interesting and enjoyable experience - very educational. Maweza is a guide who really knows his stuff! He shared A LOT of information during the tour, covering history, politics, and culture. We saw the key historical sites (Nelson House, etc.), and walked through multiple neighborhoods w/in Soweto to get a feel for how it developed over time. Also had some fun cultural stops along the way. Even though you’re on your feet for most of the 4 hours, the pace is relaxed and it wasn’t tiring. I didn’t have any concerns about safety or security during the walk either.

Moweza was a great and knowledgeable guide! Bring an appetite for the kota!! I had no idea the significance of Youth Day, so I'm glad I took the tour to learn about this important holiday.

      Don't miss this tour!
Highly recommend! A great 3 hour bike tour of Soweto. Themba was our Guide. Our hotel sent us to the incorrect meeting spot so we were 25 min late but Themba couldn't have been more gracious and understanding. He was so knowledgeable about everything. He was very sweet and patient answering all of our questions. So many things to see and learn about. So much history. We stopped for lunch at a terrific little place and was treated to a local delight the koda sandwich. :)

      Biking thru history and culture
This tour was the highlight of our trip to Johannesberg! It was important for us to see and understand the history of apartheid from the township perspective. Themba was an excellent guide! He is a Soweto local and it was very interesting to learn the history and how current life is in the township from his viewpoint. We really appreciated his kindness, patience, and sense of humor. Bike ride was fun some rolling hills, traffic to manage. Thank you Themba from the Swati family! ;)

Great views and lovely tour guide
The tour guide Tumbah was very knowledgeable and very friendly. We had a great time with him, and got to see a lot of Soweto on the bike. The bikes were in great condition and the food that was provided was lovely too. Highly recommended!

      Excellent Tour Experience!
This was such an informative and well thought out tour. Our guide Mulalo was impressively knowledgeable about the history of the city and South Africa as a whole. He was very professional and made us feel very safe and comfortable the entire time. Would highly recommend for anyone who is interested in a unique and immersive learning experience.

Great bike ride through Soweto with Themba!
We had a great bike ride with Themba through Soweto - learning about the history and discussing what’s happening today. We felt very safe throughout and were not bothered by random strangers (which is what would have happened if we were on our own). We also ended up riding through the lead up to an ANC rally in prep for the elections. Strong reco!

Great tour! Amazing guide. OK lunch.
Great tour. Highly recommended. The lunch was not good - make sure you tell your guide if you want more on the sandwich than a fried egg and french fries. There are add on options, including burgers, cheese, sausages, etc., but they cost extra. Our guy didn’t let us know that and the egg and fries did not do the trick. If we go back, we would skip the sandwich and opt for lunch T one of the many restaurants in the area.Otherwise this was a really wonderful experience, and we would recommend it to anyone who wants to get an idea of the history and significance of the Soweto Township.

Awesome tour around cool Maboneng. Have a coffee in the best coffee bar in town and look at your first murals while enjoying it. The tour is very interesting and your learn quite a lot about Johannesburg in general and Maboneng. Due to Cobid we weren't able to enjoy the bars in Maboneng but our guide would have provided us with some great tips for the area.
We felt safe all the time and we can absolutly recommend it. If you are in Johannesburg, don't miss out on that.

The Maboneng Art District walking tour offered a view most tourists might not see. The street art, the people’s art , the no apologies art. Johannesburg may be a little gritty and tense , but I am so glad my wife and I had the pleasure of doing the tour. KG our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and it showed that he was very connected to the scene. Security folks, street artists and young guys just hanging around seemed to know him and greeted him. We felt comfortable and secure. He answered many of my questions and could tell what we were most interested in. The murals were so cool. I’ll attach photos.
KG went the extra step to help us out. He made sure we were comfortable with the whole experience. The tour was well worth it and I fully recommend it.

Fantastic and personalised art tour around Maboneng - it's much larger than I thought and some of the artwork is really hidden. The guides really know their stuff and deep details of the artwork, history and transformation of this area. This is a must do activity if you are visiting.

Great street art tour in Maboneng! Learned a lot about the street art scene and the neighborhood. The tour took place even though I was the only person who booked the early morning slot and my guide was easy to talk to and was able to answer all my questions as he knows most of the artist personally. Highly recommended for anyone interested to see cool artworks in an up and coming neighborhood of Johannesburg

Mathapelo, our guide, was extremely knowledgeable and fun. She shared both the history of Maboneng and the stories behind the various her personal experiences as well as the details behind each piece of art. Most of all she shared her personal views on current events as well as her perspective on the art pieces and the neighborhood.

Additionally, as I was having trouble with the Airbnb platform, I contacted One Day Africa. They were extremely responsive and flexible. They also followed up to ensure that I was all squared away before my visit. Would highly recommend to anyone visiting Johannesburg.

What an amazing experience! We met our guide TJ at the Home Of The Bean Cafe and he gave us a wonderful personalised 2 and a half hour tour of the area with some great personal insights as well as the ‘tourist’ info. He introduced us to some wonderful artists, designers, even a singer! There’s sone fantastic artwork to be seen, shops to pop into and people to meet. Highly recommended!

This tour is a great experience, where you'll learn a lot about the historical and cultural background of the art and of this district. The tour guide is really nice and knows a lot of artists personally. He is a good storyteller and you feel very connected to the art and understand it. Often times I had these goosebumps moments.
I can definitely recommend the tour. It is absolutely worth the money!

Very nice walk through the district of Maboneng. The street art is amazing. Our guide was very knowledgeable about each art piece and about the background. At times it felt a little bit as if it was learned by heart as opposed to a genuine passion for street art, but it is definitely a great experience. I found the price to be rather high, but enjoyed it genuinely.

Great surprise to meet Tebogo again after he guided us through Soweto. This was a shorter tour but brimmed full of stories & visual delights. The street art was a window to the Bohemian soul of Maboneng, & Tebogo is a wonderful narrator.
    Thanks again.
