- priscillao9550 contributionsGreat introduction to JoburgI had a great time on my tour of Maboneng with Ayanda. It was my first time being out and about in Johannesburg and it was a great introduction to the city. Ayanda was very knowledgeable and professional but also friendly and sociable. He seemed to really care about me having a good experience of Joburg and recommended other things I could/ places to go. It felt like a friend was showing me around his city and it was nice seeing how he interacted with others in the community, it just made it all seem so much more authentic. The art was incredible and it was really interesting to see how the history of SA and values of the people have influenced the art. Lovely experience, would certainly recommend!Written 29 April 2024
- alina8160 contributionsExcellent Private Tour with a Fantastic GuideAyanda knows a lot about the history, culture, art and politics of Joburg and South Africa. To have a tour with someone so knowledgeable and willing to answer all our questions and show us interesting things was wonderful. The tour stops were all amazing, and he gave us many recommendations of things to do on other days as well. We ended the tour with a delicious braai at the Mai Mai market. I highly recommend this tour to anyone who wants to get an authentic feel for Johannesburg.Written 8 January 2024
- Vidette K0 contributionsAdventure in jhb cityThis was a pretty cool adventure. I especialy liked Ayanda's talks, and perspective. As someone who lives in the city and would love to see families or variety income live there.. and what he would change. It was interesting and certainly a unique way to experience the city on a skate board. It allows you to really feel the city vibe. Ayanda also has knowledge about the history and all the unique secret spots along the route. Makes you want to come back and visit again. I would recommend a map share and a personal mail from Ayanda closer to the time. I would also have liked if we were part of a larger group and that groups are combined, instead of it just be us on the tour.Written 31 May 2022
- Simnag0 contributionsBest city tour I've ever done!I loved every bit of it. The inner city of Joburg is very vibrant and there is a lot of history to discover. But at the same time as a tourist, it isn't a palce where you would just walk around. The skate tour was the perfect opportunity for my girlfriend and me to get in touch with this wonderful city. And at the same time it was also our first time on skateboards. Ayanda did a great job in teaching us how to skate and showing us around. Beeing from that neighbourhood, he knows a fair share about the history of this place and has a lot of insights. I can only recommend this tour to everybody who gets the opportunity. Thanks to Ayanda, I started to skate even at home.Written 30 March 2022
- asayyed5550 contributionsUnique city tourI had an incredible time with two friends on this tour. I had never skateboarded before but I enjoyed trying something new. It was very safe and we had lots of padding in case we fell. The streets were not busy where were skated. Ayanda has so much interesting knowledge about the city and he was able to answer all of our questions. We were three joburg locals who had no clue about a lot of the history until this tour. Definitely recommend!!Written 25 March 2022

The City Skate Tour of Jo’burg was exceptional and a highlight of my first visit to Johannesburg. As an urban planner I love cities and am interested in how cities grow and change. The tour that Ayanda led included street art, history, architecture, urban planning and development, and politics. The ground level view provided by skateboarding (and some walking since I’m a newbie skater) really enabled you to gain a unique perspective. My 14 year old son who travels with his own skateboard just loved it. If you want a unique way to experience Johannesburg I highly recommend you book the 3-hour full tour you will not regret it!

Our guide, Ayanda, was a good communicator, very knowledgeable, and inspirational. We not only learned about street art but also about city history and society.
At the end, Ayanda, who has a caring attitude, patiently showed us different recommendations for a lovely evening in Maboneng.
This excellent, 3 hours and a half street art walking tour was certainly one of the highlights of our visit to Johannesburg. Highly recommended!

Such a cool way to explore JHB. The skating was lots of fun and the perfect way to see the city. We felt so safe with our local tour guide who was incredibly passionate about the city and full of information about the pockets of excellence and challenges that exist in town. Would highly recommend this tour to anyone, even if you have never skated before.

Hi Tim,
We absolutely enjoyed having you and your crew skate with us - we always love getting open-minded locals who are willing to learn about and explore their own city!
Yes, Joburg can be a crazy city with its challenges but its not all doom and gloom!
Hopefully see you back again in the future, we'd love to have you again!

We had a wonderful tour with Mike! After our initial reservation was cancelled due to rain, Mike and Ayanda were so accommodating when rescheduling. This was such a fun and unique way to explore Joburg's neighborhoods and art. Plus, we learned a new skill! Highly recommend and will recommend to friends!

My sister and I took the Marshall Street package for the skateboard tour.
If you have never skated before, don't worry you are in good hands. Ayanda, explained to us how to skate and was very patient the whole way. Ayanda, also gave great detail on the important historical buildings along the skateboard route as well. Definitely a tour worth to go on. We went on a Sunday afternoon, therefore the roads were relatively quiet. Recommend trying this.

The City Skate tour was an incredible experience. I'm a local to Johannesburg, and have experienced the city in a number of ways, but exploring on skateboards was a brand new, fun, and worthwhile experience.
The tour started with a skate lesson for beginners, and we were off from there.
We skated through different parts of the Johannesburg CBD, like Maboneng, Marshalltown, Newtown and Cyrildene with with our guide, Ayanda, who is patient, friendly and extremely knowledgeable about skating, Joburg's history, and arts and culture scene.
We had a pleasant morning - afternoon session skating, photographing, and learning. I highly recommend this tour for anyone looking to see and explore Johannesburg from a different perspective; and I would readily do it again.
Whether you have skating experience or not, you're guaranteed to have a fun afternoon solo, or with friends and family.

Hey Lebo,
It was so refreshing having both you and Gabriel on our experience!
We loved exchanging stories with you about urban space and chatting with Gabriel about skateboarding in America!
You both rock!

We did the E(ast) Scooter Tour with Ayanda. It was clearly the best way to discover this extraordinary city. Ayanda grew up in a neighbourhood of Joburg, so he takes you off the touristic roads to discover the reality of this city. What better way to enjoy a weekend with friends than with a local, very friendly and passionate about his city. We don’t see the time passing, thanks again !

I had the best Sunday afternoon cruising around Marshalltown with Ayanda from City Skate Tours. I had only tried to skate once or twice before and with Ayanda's guidance was zooming through the Jo'burg streets. The tour is very informative, Ayanda has a lot of historical and architectural knowledge of the city. Can confirm that safety always comes first and you get legit safety gear and Ayanda takes your happiness and health seriously. 12/10 would recommend.

City Skate Tour is a highly recommended way of experiencing and moving through the Inner City of Joburg.
Ayanda explained in the beginning how to ride and stop and gave us some time to get used to the skateboard. We practiced on a quiet bit of Foxstreet before we headed out towards Maboneng. I felt super safe throughout the entire trip, knowing Ayanda always had our backs!
This tour is so awesome because it's an unusual way of experiencing a city. More importantly, it's such an exciting way to indulge in Joburg's street life, learn about the places' history as well as Ayanda's personal view on how to conquer public urban spaces such as Joburg's Inner City.
Thank you for a fun weekend adventure!

Hey Steffi,
We're glad you finally joined our experience and that you had a great time too!
We really enjoy getting people immersed into the culture of the inner city so that they have a better understanding of the city on a day-to-day basis - it's just like any other city in the world, it has positives and it challenges but it's about how you choose to perceive the space!
Can't wait to have you again to show you more!
