- PJRuchards640 contributionsUnforgettable experienceI am a Safari enthusiast and this was my 3rd Safari with Balanta Imagine. I also decided to add the Swaziland tour this time and glad I did, it’s a very fun event learning about Swazi culture, the traditional dancing, and the drive is lovely. The Kholiwe Lodge is a very lovely boutique lodge. The rooms are super clean and comfortable. I requested the Tau room which has an inside shower as well as an outside shower and beautiful outside bathtub under the stars. I can’t say enough about the staff at Kholiwe, everyone was so nice, attentive, and professional. They make you feel at home and go out of their was to accommodate you. The food was absolutely delicious and eating under the stars in the boma, next to the fire is very memorable. The game drives was the highlight among others. The guide was able to get 4 of the big five being Lions, Elephants, Buffalo, and an awesome sighting of a Leopard in a tree with a kill. Aubrey is the Man! I highly recommend Balanta if you want to have an unforgettable Safari experience and without burning a hole in your pocket.Written 30 March 2024
- 449jch0 contributionsPrime service, great value for money and unforgettable memoriesI booked a 3-day tour through Balanta. They were excellent and very accommodating as I had to reschedule my trip. They did so without any additional fees. Always friendly and prompt to respond my questions and requests, and tailored my trip according to my needs. I stayed at the Kholiwe on Kruger lodge. I cannot recommend enough these guys and gals!!! They made my stay fantastic. Sbu, who supervises the lodge is a fantastic guy, very helpful and friendly. Eibri, the guide, is also very friendly and extremely knowledgeable taking us to where the action -and animals- were. Huge kudos to the fantastic ladies working at the lodge. Their food is like made by angels -which I’m guessing they are ;)-. All in all a great experience which I highly recommend. They’ll make sure your time in Kruger is greatWritten 30 March 2024

- Gina_Guest0 contributionsSafari great, tour company subparI booked my trip on balanta website and not via Trip Advisor. The communication could have been a lot better than what it was. I had no communication until I reached out a few days before my trip with questions on coordination. Per their website itinerary it states pickup from airport, hotel to the lodge. I was transported via private pick up to airport, then bus to Nelspruit and private pick up from Nelspruit to the lodge and same thing on the way back. This itinerary, and transfers were never communicated to me ahead of time. I was put on a public bus without advance notice and information on transfers. Getting to my lodge was a confusing journey. The fees not covered by the tours were not clearly stated: first it was additional fee for single supplement of the room as I was traveling solo, then it was another extra cost for pickup/drop off from hotel in Joburg, then there is a daily entrance fee into Kruger park that I had to cover which was included in cost of the tour. So this skews the total cost of the tour if you were trying to compare with other services as all the costs are not disclosed nor included. For someone that plans, organizes and compares and just for transparency purposes fees not covered should be disclosed upfront especially prior to purchase. Despite this I enjoyed the safari experience, Two days was enough time for me at the safari. Our tour guide Oberi made sure we saw a lot of the animals especially those we had on our lists as wanting to see. The lodge was beautiful, the food was good and staff was welcoming and provided great service. Do your researchWritten 19 March 2024
- anguell20200 contributionsIncredible! The entire trip was amazing. You practically couldn’t ask for better and the only animal in the Big Five that we didn’t see was leopards. Other than that, the lodging was great along with the meals that they provided. Special thanks to our safari guide Aubrey, chef Precious, and host Swazi who went above and beyond with their service and their knowledge of the park and animals.Written 26 December 2023
- malwinaiwonat0 contributionsGreat Safari experienceIn general the Safari tour was really good. The location was amazing, clean, modern and super nice located. The staff on site was very friendly and helpful. Accidentally we were the only guest and could really enjoy the luxury conditions and get all the time of both personnel on site and the guide. Our guide, Obry, was really great. We saw almost all the animals in the park and got also explained a lot about the life of animals in the park. The only thing that could have been handled better was the transportation to the location. We were told that we can be picked up from our location and brought to the accommodation for Safari, in fact it took a lot of communication shortly before the tour and to our surprise, we were put on a regular line bus with other people. A general bus, that transports people between cities. All in all though, really cool Safari and in the end all went well. Thanks again to Danielle for taking care of us in Pretoria.Written 30 October 2023

All the crew were friendly, the food was really good, transportation schedule was easy to follow. The lodging was better than expected. Would definitely recommend to anyone. Come to see the park which should be a UNESCO world heritage site. Study its geology learn about the trees and the animals will come. I had an amazing 3 day/2 night trip out to Kruger thanks to Balanta Imagine Safaris. I was kindly greeted by my transport driver, Ernest, who transported me from Johannesburg up to Kruger and I went straight into a Safari as soon as I arrived. I met up with my guide, Bheki, who was exceptional and had 17 years of experience. Bheki is extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and overall fun to be with when out touring Kruger National Park. We were delighted with many sightings and got quite lucky to see 3 separate prides of lions (2 with sets of cubs) and 2 different leopard sightings! Overall we saw 4 of the big 5 (no Rhino), but I was so appreciative of my time in the park! Many other animals were seen upon our excursion and Bheki knows so much detail about animal behavior is was quite enlightening. During my trip there was lots of rain that had occurred prior and during the nights, so many dirt roads were closed in the park, but Bheki made the time enjoyable and we really were fortunate to still see so many animals. South Africa and Kruger National Park are truly beautiful, I am so happy I chose Balanta Imagine as my touring company while I was there. Don't waste your money on anything more expensive when it comes to a Safari, the value you get with Balanta is top-notch and I highly recommend them.

This was a great experience. Leigh and her team, Roger, Sbu and the ladies made our stay so warm, romantic and inviting. It was eleven of us. We were up early in the morning on a beautiful safari each day. You want Aubrey as your driver!! He was phenomenal!!! Very detailed, personable and knowledgeable. We saw different animals and birds each day. Four of the Big 5. The ladies cooked breakfast or prepared a breakfast for the morning safari. The dinner on the second night was amazing. We ate by candlelight and the fire pit. The rooms were clean. If you choose the Elephant suite, please know your shower is outside. The tub/shower extension is within the bedroom without a door so if it’s 2 in that room make sure you’re comfortable with one another. The wharthogs and the kudu come right up to you and there is food to feed them. The only reason I didn’t give it a 5 is because although the food was good, we had to eat what was cooked. Vegetarian option and a meat option that they chose. We didn’t preorder and options weren’t available. An overall great experience.

This was an absolutely wonderful introduction to a safari. We got picked up at our Johannesburg hotel and driven to Kholiwe lodge. We spent 2 nights there, going on 4 safaris into Kruger National Park.
Transportation: the drivers to and from the airport were on time, very polite, and accommodating. They answered our questions and stopped when breaks were needed.
Lodging: the accommodations were great. AC in the bedrooms made it comfortable. Meals were provided and were excellent. The rooms were clean and we felt safe when in the lodge. One day we fed a family of warthogs right at the front door. Another day a couple of silver monkeys came and we fed them. One of us even got the feed a kudu that came up to the lodge.
Safaris: the guide we had was Aubrey. He was amazing. He was in constant touch over the radio with other drivers to find the places to go in the park. Aubrey often would spot animals hidden in the bushes. We saw lions on each trip into the park. Elephants, including a herd with very young ones. Buffalo, zebras, giraffes, monkeys, baboons, hyenas, wild dogs, impalas, crocodiles, and many species of birds. It was incredible.
Management: Balanta Tours was in constant touch via WhatsApp. They answered questions we had from before we got picked up through the final day we were there. They offered to help with whatever we needed. Very good customer service.

Cancelled booking 1.5 days in advance with no prior notice or rationale. We revolved our trip around this booking and they caused us to scramble to find another safari. I would never book a tour with this company again as they are unreliable and unprofessional. This is too big of a tour and too expensive to be have a 1.5 day notice cancellation.

Hello Chris
We understand your frustration with tour cancellation, which we strive to avoid at all costs, Unfortunately, on the day of your tour, unexpected vehicle maintenance forced us to make a difficult decision. Given the circumstances, we requested a cancellation and rescheduling through Viator. We also reached out to discuss the option of moving your booking to the following day, but we understand that this wasn't feasible for you.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

The Kholiwe location and staff is amazing! We had a twin room for my mom and I and it was really enjoyable to have our family and friends in the same lodge area, around 10 people. The common area is really nice for nights to play Phase 10, complete with a warthog family showing up everyday for lunch to be fed and kudus or impalas too! If you’re an animal lover, this is it! Kruger is just 15 minutes away, to see the Big Five and it’s all a smooth process setting it up with them! A huge thank you to Leigh, Sbu, Aubry!

Wonderful experience and great value for money. Our guide “Becky” was absolutely fantastic, looked after us well, and made sure we and our 10 year old son, Eddie, had a great experience. A true professional who knows the park and the animals. The ‘lodge’ was basic but great for a couple with a 10 year old as it had a small pool and it was very clean. Would recommend bringing supplies (games, snacks and booze). Transport links worked perfectly and I was well supported by Gloria in the office. Highly recommended!

We had an amazing trip to the bush!
We were picked up in Johannesburg by Sebenzile and had a smooth five hour trip over to Kruger. Our first ride was led by William, an amazing man who has worked in the park for more than 43 years. In three short hours, we were able to see impala (the McDonald’s of the bush), warthogs, kudu, zebras, monkeys, elephants, hippos, wildebeest, giraffes, wild dogs and hyenas. It was simply amazing!
As the sun began to set, we headed to Nkambeni Tented Camp. Bruce was kind enough to upgrade us to this camp when it became available. I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect from our accommodations, but I was pleasantly surprised by our tent which felt more like a cabin. I will share that if you’re planning to visit in Kruger in the winter time to prepare. I knew it would be chilly, but I should’ve packed warmer pajamas!
On Day 2, we woke up bright and early for an all-day drive. This drive was a bit slower than the previous day, but we were able to see more of the animals we saw on Friday along with a cheetah, rhinos, crocodiles and many beautiful birds. The cheetah was definitely the highlight of the day. She was such a beauty!
After the long day, we returned back to the camp to relax before dinner. Behind our camp, we could see hippos in the pond at sunset. It was truly a sight to see. We ended the day with dinner outside under the stars.
On our last day of the safari, we were hopeful to see lions and leopards, two of the big five that we hadn’t seen. Sebenzile took us on a two-hour ride to help us round out the trip. In those two hours, we were able to see a pride of lions in the distance, a leopard in a tree and more. All in all, we were able to see the Magnificent Seven which are the Big Five plus cheetahs and wild dogs. Our trip was more than a success, and we highly recommend Balanta!

I booked with Balanta tours for my first African safari and I must say I made a wise decision.
The Communication was excellent from my first inquiry, Danielle was very pleasant and answered all of my questions. Pick up was done on time from our hotel, and The ride was very comfortable. It was just my wife and I in a spacious vw van, and our driver, Thapelo. He was very accommodating and informative. The lodge is very nice and tastefully decorated and beds very comfortable. We were met with welcome drinks and a cool face towel. Their reception area is outside and a few animals lounging and drinking from a water hole, a very nice welcome that I wasn’t expecting. We also enjoyed the meals and the Boma(BBQ) under the stars and sitting around the fire. The lodge crew was nice and accommodating it was definitely a highlight. We also managed to gets a host of animals in the park on our safari drives including lions, the safari drive was the best part of our trip, we saw so many animals. Balanta tours made all of this possible and I definitely recommend them and their great team.

Excellent, great, and marvelous, are just a few of the adjectives that describe this safari. We, my brother, and I were picked up at our Johannesburg hotel on time, that's good and our driver Ernest made the 5-hour trek to Kruger enjoyable. He pointed out many points of interest and was a very careful driver. Upon our arrival, he turned us over to our guide Bheki and the adventure began. Because of the recent flooding of the park, we were limited to the main road but we were able to see 4 of the big 5, no leopards, we did see evidence of their presence, a fresh kill hanging from a tree. We stayed at their lodge which has been recently built and that's where we had our dinners which were prepared by two wonderful sisters, Ester and Jean, I hope I have their names correct. Delicious and plentiful home cooking. I can't say enough good things about our guide Bheki, he was outstanding, very knowledgeable with a great attitude. He thoroughly enjoyed his job and is a true asset to Balanta.
