Got a Soweto Gold as a bonus?
Soweto part was so good, highly recommend. We good three different guides at each stop who were all very knowledgeable. Our guide even brought us for a Soweto Gold beer which can only be bought in Soweto.

An amazing, historical and cultural immersion.
This bus tour is a must for both locals and international visitors. From the booking process all the way to the bus drivers and guides, the experience was an easy, convenient and wonderful one. The history of Johannesburg is a fascinating one and the audio information throughout the drive was interesting and kept the attention of both the adults and children (ages 8-13) on the trip. The information pamphlets, map and bus timetable made hopping on and off the buses an easy, stress free experience. Bus stops are well marked and safety is clearly a priority. There is something for everyone on each of the 12 designated stops on the route. We chose to stop at 2 attractions only and to enjoy the rest of the time on the bus, sight seeing. What an amazing, historical and cultural immersion.

TRIP OF THE YEAR FOR THE MOSIA FAMILY.
As a Joburger myself, I never knew there's so much history in my city and to explore it with my children ( 10 year Boy and 5 year girl) was a trip of the year for us. They had so much fun aboard the bus and Mr Kenneth made sure we are safe at all time. He's driving is of world class level. Thank you to the ladies at Rosebank Mall who were super friendly when we bought tickets, they also escorted us to the bus. I'm so glad it was not full at all as my daughter gets very unsettled around crowds. Seeing the Mandela house and foundation was a blast for my boy, HE LOVES MANDELA TOO MUCH, HE'S DAD GETS JEALOUS AT TIMES😆😆. My princess cut our trip short when we got to Gold Reef City, her small haven, besides Home, we couldn't continue with our trip any further. But we are definitely coming back to finish it off. Thank you so much for such a great business that let's us explore our very own backyards( JOHANNESBURG).

Had a great day! Very professional guide and both sites well worth the visit. I would highly recommend Pure Diamond tours for anything in Joburg, Pretoria or beyond.

Great way to see the city
I did the Jhb tour with apartheid museum. This was a great way to see Jhb. I’d highly recommend this tour. The audio is very informative, the bus driver drives safely and the stops are convenient.

    Not bad
A fun and easy way to get your bearings around Johannesburg. It’s cheap way to spend the day and the commentary about the sites were interesting. If you are planning to do the Soweto add on make sure to bring some tipping money for the hard working guides who provide their speaking service at certain stops.

Fantastic experience and very professional staff
I couldn't have hoped for a better tour around the main attractions of Johannesburg. City Sightseeing staff (both in the office and on the buses) are professional, courteous, caring and they make sure you know exactly what's going on at all times. Also, every bus I took arrived at the stop exactly on schedule, which must not be an easy feat in a massive city like Johannesburg. I hopped off to see Constitution Hill, the Apartheid Museum and took the Soweto tour. All of these were fascinating and definitely worth at least a couple of hours each. I enjoyed listening to the onboard commentary, full of interesting details and anecdotes and I felt the time flew by because of that. Finally, the City Sightseeing guides we had in Soweto were amazing too, providing enough background and personal reflections without overwhelming everyone. I would definitely recommend the red bus as the way to see and feel a lot of Johannesburg efficiently.

All around Johannesburg in a day
Went on the HOHO with a friend and saw the sights of Johannesburg. Honestly, there aren't many sights when you compare it to a place like Cape Town, but it is what it is. The commentary provided useful additional information about the communities we passed through. The stop at the Apartheid Museum was very interesting, but allow at least an hour and a half.

Great tour of Soweto (thanks to DT)!
The bus tour around the city was nice but we especially enjoyed the tour of Soweto. Our guide DT was amazing and we learned a lot about the township and its history!

Great way to safely see Johannesburg
Went on the 1 day hop on hop off bus tour and included the Soweto 2 hour option. It was excellent from beginning to end. Started at Rosebank and the ticket agents were helpful in explaining the stops . Since we had limited time so they made sure we understood the schedule and timing. Walked us to the bus out front. Earphones worked well to hear about the sights as we passed by. When we arrived at the area to transfer to the Sowero bus we were escorted into the hotel for a bathroom stop and time to grab a water, the guide kept us together and we had ample time. Can't say enough about the Soweto guide DT, who was awesome 👏 He was friendly, funny and engaging and had so much knowledge about the area, answering questions and providing tons of information. There were a number of stops that we could get off and take pictures and had the option of staying (along with an escort) and picking up the next bus in an hour to spend more time exploring at each stop. At the stops in Soweto there were informational talks given that were interesting. There was not a lot of time to look around after but again the option to stay with an escort was offered. We ended the tour back at Rosebank and took the Guautrain from there back to the airport. Easy with 1 train switch and took about 25 minutes. Great option for those who are looking to have a half day overview of Johannesburg with easy access by train to and from the airport. As a group of women, we felt very safe and well looked after by everyone on this tour.

Best child friendly activity to do while also learning about the city
I went with my 8 year old daughter, it was an amazingly educational trip that we really enjoyed. The hop on and off makes it all the more exciting and we got off at the constitutional hill for some informative session and hopped on again to our 2nd hop off at Goldreef city to grab lunch. My daughter loved being on the top of the bus and the excitement for her was when she switched languages and got to briefly hear other languages. It definitely was an awesome experience that I recommend for everyone, very kid friendly. We started our tour from Melrose and ended up at the Rosebank stop at the end of our day

I only had 1 free day and this is a great way to see a lot of the city and 10 or 12 of the major attractions within the city and subregions.

The shuttle picked me up at the hotel and took me to the first stop.
We got on a double Decker open air bus. That drove us around the city with stops at 10 or more attractions. During the drive you listen to a pre-recorded Guide that gives you information about the area.
With the timetable you can determine when and where you want to get off you can see sites like the zoo the military history Museum the mining district, transportation history Museum, apartheid museum, Constitution Hall. The bus has two loops each loop is about one hour each. Bus comes by to each stop about every half hour. You can get off at any of the stops spend as much time as you like at each attraction.

Daughter and I especially enjoyed the 2 hr tour of Constitution hill. If you want to stop at more than 2 or 3 stops I would recommend 2 days, mostly Constitution Hill and the Apartheid museum take 2 hrs or more each to see. Some of the other stops we did not feel safe to see alone. We enjoyed to narrative provided. Excellent way to spend a day or 2.

We went on the hop on hop off day tour in Johannesburg which our daughter and future son in law booked for us for our birthday gift last year. We were able to eventually book for our trip for February 2023. Although it turned out to be a rainy day on the day the trip was really very informative and we learnt alot on this trip that we did not know about our own country and some history of Johannesburg as well. My husband and I were both born in Johannesburg and learnt a great deal more about our beloved Johannesburg that we did not know before, such as who our first Mayor of Johannesburg was etc. We loved the trip and the experience was amazing. It is sad to see how some places have gone down the tubes, but others how they are reviving in the city of Johannesburg. The staff and bus drivers are very friendly and are also very helpful with information. We couldn't really enjoy much of the outdoor rooftop due to the weather, but it was still an amazing trip. We decided that we will definitely go on the Soweto trip next. The places are clearly marked where you can hop on and hop off and the bus drivers also tell you more or less when the next bus will arrive so you know what time to be at the stop. Thank you for an informative and very pleasant day outing.

Ended up purchasing a two day ticket and it was a great to safely get my first taste of the city and I'm glad I did!

While the Southern Winter schedule has the bus running only once an hour, I was able to work through it and still managed to visit most of the sights I wanted to check out during my time in Johannesburg! This was added by the luck of my booking a hotel close to the terminus of the buses at The Zone @ Rosebank shopping center so I was able to immediately rest after a day of hopping on and off!

Not only was the ability to jump between the green route from Rosebank to the red route towards the Apartheid museum seamless, it seemed that we didn't even have to change buses as the buses themselves would go from red to green routes and vice versa at Constitution Hill so one could possibly do both routes in a single sitting.

Also a major shoutout to the wonderful staff at Constitution Hill who kept us informed, she was truly a pleasure to interact with as I took advantage of the two-day ticket! I also appreciated their reminders on putting on sunscreen as it was still brutal even during a Southern Winter!

It is also worth noting that, as with many of the City Sightseeing buses, to try to avoid the last bus if you can by shooting for an earlier one as it can get crowded especially when picking up the last groups from the Soweto tour!

The hop on hop off tour of Johannesburg was excellent. When we went, the green and red lines were combined so we rode both loops on the one ticket. Although we did not get off, one could easily do so. It looked as though a one hour stop at the zoo site for walking, and a two hour stop at the apartheid museum were the most popular.

The commentary was interesting and informative.

It is a highly recommended way to get a general sense of Johannesburg districts.

A great way to see the whole city, whether you are traveling alone, with family or on business. We travelled with a Portuguese speaking colleague who was able to listen along the tour as well. If you want to spend adequate time at each site, I recommend taking at least two-day tour and another for Soweto. There is just so much to learn and experience - it will leave you wanting to come back!

Nice experience. However, if you compare it to the one in Cape Town you'll be disappointed! The busses arrive every hour...and some busses were VERY late so we missed the entrance to some of our stops and had to stand at dodgy places while we wait.

We chose the Afrikaans option (my home language) on the bus and I was shocked at how badly they use the language. I expected better language use.

If you decide to go, remember the following:
- Bring sunscreen and a hat.
- Book your tickets to Gold Reef City online
- Go as early as possible because there is an entire hour in between busses.

Other than that, we had a lovely time.

Thanks for the review. When we re-record Afrikaans for our new routes I will ask the team to check the channel - was not aware of the "Bad use" of the language. As regards the hourly frequency - I agree its not ideal but tourism in JNB has not recovered from Covid yet to the extend that we can operate more buses and each of the stops actually needs at least 1h to visit. But there is no need to wait for a bus - just log onto our live bus tracking. Details of the URL available in the tour leaflet you get when you depart or on our website. Hope to see you back again one day soon

Fascinating! I've visited Johannesburg a few times and always wanted to see Hillbrow and the CBD so this seemed like the safest way to do it! As a History buff, these tours always seem to give a real insight into the city and this one did not disappoint. There is something here for everyone though - whether it be shopping at Melrose Arch, taking time to see Gold Reef City and the Apartheid Musem or stopping off at the zoo. The buses stick to time well and the commentary is pitched just at the right level in terms of information, humour and background - you leave feeling you know the city much more intimately. Next time we will do the Soweto tour. Can't wait.

We had a great day as tourists in our own City. Was lovely to sit up high and take in all the sights. Constitutional Hill is a worthwhile visit, and something all South Africans should do to be enlightened on just how much sacrifice was made for our freedom. There is not time to visit all the attractions in one day, and the Carlton Centre is currently not open, but we just really enjoyed seeing so much of the city in a few hours. Great for tourists and South Africans alike.

We went the day after flying in from the US and were pretty tired, so we had a late start. No worries, we still got to see the Apartheid Museum, which was worth the whole tour! Try to spend 1-2 hours in the museum. We made a stop at the Gold Reef City Casino, but ended up just going in to use the bathroom, because it was noisy. Good driver, good information, good views from the top floor, though in mid-August is was kind of cold, so sat below on the way back.
