What to expect
Accessible only by foot, Manuel Antonio National Park is a protected tropical reserve featuring white sandy beaches, lush rain forest, and crystal-clear turquoise water. Your full-day tour of this tropical paradise begins with early morning pickup from your San Jose hotel to maximize your time at the park. Stop for breakfast along the way, and enjoy the scenic drive past picturesque villages and the dramatic scenery of the Pacific coastline.  Hop out of the air-conditioned vehicle at the park entrance near the port of Quepos. No vehicles are allowed inside Manuel Antonio to preserve the area’s natural beauty and delicate ecosystem. Enjoy an easy, flat hike through the rain forest to arrive at a gorgeous crescent-shaped beach. The afternoon is yours to spend as you wish. Drop a towel and soak up the sun along the beach’s pristine white sand, and cool off with a swim in the clear, warm waters of the Pacific. Wander through jungle trails on your own, or join a guided nature hike to learn about the park’s incredible biodiversity. Be prepared to encounter many wild residents, including monkeys, sloths, tropical birds, and iguanas. Get your blood pumping with a hike to Cathedral Point, where you can soak in a breathtaking perspective of the ocean, shore, and forest. Depart the park before dusk, and watch a memorable sunset over the Pacific on the return drive to your San Jose hotel.

Monkeys
So amazing! But when the guide tells you to watch out for the monkeys stealing stuff, they mean it... a monkey took my bag and money in it... I recovered most of everything but I’ll never forget it. It was so funny.

Nice trip. Beatiful beach. The park is just OK, not much to see...mostly plants, not wild life..... but relaxing at the beach: priceless.
Luch Ok, nothing special.
Long trip from San Jose...but it is worth, ...you came to see the country side.

Good way to see the park with limited time
Jan 2020
I had limited time in Costa Rica and spent most of it in La Fortuna. I wanted to see Manual Antonio National Park and this was a great way to do so. Obviously the ideal way to visit would be to stay close by and spend a day or 2 in the park. But this tour did a nice job getting us there and back and allowing us to get a good sampler of the park. The beaches are pretty nice and can be a bit crowded. Our guide pointed out a lot of cool animals to us on the walk to the beach (and at several other quick stops). The food was pretty good. There was one unnecessary stop at a gift shop. There was awful traffic on the way home so a really long day was made even longer. We left at 6 am and got home around 9 pm. Overall, was a good tour and a good way to see the park in a limited fashion. We had a great driver

A must-see attraction
Beautiful park with lots of hiking trails, many wild animals and a gorgeous beach. Our guide led us on a 2-hour hike, where we saw 2 kinds of monkeys, sloths, tapir, giant iguanas and a number of other animals. We also got to spend an hour on the beach, and then a late lunch, with a beautiful view of the ocean. We also made stops to see wild crocodiles and macaws.
Our guide, Naty, was well organized and informative.

If you only have a day to visit Manuel Antonio, this is a great option. However, if we had more time, next time, there are some gorgeous resorts right outside the park and on site naturalist guides that would allow a much better opportunity to explore the park.

Amazing place but our tour guide was poor
Jan 2020 • Solo
The national park is beautiful with plenty of wildlife to see and wonderful beaches. Breakfast and lunch was great. The trip was let down by our tour guide, Maria, who didn't take much interest in the tour itself and then failed to meet us at the meeting point at the time she had told us to. We worked out ourselves how to get to the restaurant for lunch- where she was sitting eating already and then blamed the people at the reception of the park (who we asked and they had not been told anything and were managing large numbers of tourists). Aside from this I would recommend the trip as the park is really beautiful.

Great trip, beautiful park!
Jan 2020
Alejandro was a great driver and tour guide (already reviewed him separately). The 2.5 hours at the park were wonderful, with a nice hike followed by some time in the warm Pacific and walking along the beautiful beach. We had a great lunch at a local hotel restaurant before setting off to return to San José.

Long long day but still worth it
This is a long, but worthwhile trip. Once you get to the park, there is a good beach but an even better one opposite , it’s just a few extra yards and away from the crowds.
The Cathedral Point trails are a must, we saw capuchin and howler monkeys and lovely views, and not many people. You most likely won’t see much on the hike to the beach, way too crowded. Raccoons and monkeys come to the beach- they WILL steal your stuff if you leave it unattended.
We went with Grayline tours. Breakfast is good and lunch excellent - 6 choices, shrimp pasta highly recommended. Breakfast stop is too long, clearly on commission with the gift shop, Try and hurry your guide along for more park time. Our guide was very nice but not well organised. Didn’t explain beach choices properly or trails available. Excellent, careful driver - it was so busy on way home with holiday traffic that it took over 5 hours.
But still so glad we went.

12 hours on the bus for 3 hours of fun.
Dec 2019 • Couples
We began the day on a great note, being picked up promptly at the time offered. The van was beautiful and luxurious inside with extremely comfortable seats and great air conditioning. After we picked up a few more people for the tour, the guide (who could barely speak English, even though we specifically requested an English speaking guide) realized he had too many people on the schedule for the current can. We were forced to change to a larger, and uncomfortable van. From there we were told it was a 2-3 hour ride to the destination. We immediately hit traffic. We did not arrive until 6.5 hours after we were picked up. That includes time to pick up the other guests, change vans, eat a subpar lunch.
During the ride in the “guide” offered little to no information about what was around us. This was more like a really expensive and uncomfortable uber carpool ride that will never end.
When we arrived we were told that we only had 3 hours to explore the area. The national park was absolutely beautiful. The hidden beaches were picturesque and the sand was powder soft. Prepare for high heat and 80% humidity though. You will be dripping sweat from the moment you get off the bus. I would also say to make sure you take the “long path” walking jungle tour. We saw a few animals and it only took about 45mins. The guide wanted to take the “short path” but after arguing with all the guests unsuccessfully, he gave in and agreed to take us the long way. Unlike the other guides there that had telescopic lense and binoculars, ours just pointed and tried to get other guides to let us use theirs. That was quite uncomfortable and honestly just sad how little effort or preparation was put forward.
Once we got to the beach the guide said to be back by the bust in 2 hours for lunch. We enjoyed some beach time and that was definitely the highlight of the trip. The bad part was it was so little time. A huge disappointment.
Once we got back to the bus, we were ushered into an outdoor hotel restaurant for lunch. It took almost a half hour to even get a drink. The food was reasonably good though and Costa Rican style ice cream (vanilla with eggnog like spices) was included.
The ride home was hot and just as long. By the time we got back to the hotel it had been 14 hours from pickup. With only 3 hours at the destination you can see how much time was spent in the van. We weren’t even dropped off at the hotel we requested in advance, since we would be departing on a flight the next day. We then had to take an uber for a 6 minute ride to the hotel. Apparently that was just too far... what a joke.
Overall I would not recommend this tour. The guide was terrible, the vans were old and uncomfortable, and the travel time is just unreasonable. Many guests on the tour said it was the worst experience they ever had on a tour. The guides ask you to fill out a review form on the beginning of the ride home, and I gave good marks to avoid an awkward very long trip back. Do something else with your day or be sure you are staying closer than San Jose if you really want to go. The beach and jungle are absurdly gorgeous. So find another way to see Manuel Antonio National Park.

Long day but worth it.
Dec 2019
Really enjoyed the day, good breakfast and late lunch. Lots of wildlife to be seen, nice scenery, good beaches. Pick up on time but not by Greyline another company picked me up so not sure what happened here. Didn't matter was happy with the company used though not sure who it was. Be aware it is a long day, picked up at 5.45 AM and back at 8.30 PM.
