    A great day in Hiroshima
Definitely a great value tour, with all major sites included and a nice mix of walking, tram, ferry and train. The guide was exceptionally friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. As someone who does a lot of tours, I would certainly recommend this one.

Ancient to modern, good for first-timers
It was a good intro to Tokyo. We saw lots of very different things from modern to ancient, and learned the difference between a shrine and a temple. Our guide was very sweet but we were hoping they would be native Japanese. Some of the info we got was proven later to not be fully accurate. Very fun walking tour overall, however.

History, Culture & Great food & Drink
The tour was a great mix of history, culture, food & drink -- our guide was open and expert. The evening sights at sundown were lovely -- our kids 11 & 13 also loved it!

    Worthwhile 1/2 Day Tour
We had a great time with our guide, Bryan! He was knowledgeable regarding Osaka’s history/culture and familiar with the various areas/landmarks. Bryan was funny, accommodating and personable. He was able to keep our teenage son interested throughout the tour with his sense of humor, entertaining stories and ‘cool’ demeanor. So pleased that we did this tour during our short 1.5 day visit to Osaka! Thank you, Bryan!

Great tour of Osaka with Levi!
My wife and I came to Osaka from kyoto on a day trip to hit the highlights of the city and absolutely loved it. Our tour guide was Levi, and he did a wonderful job not only showing us around Osaka but also highlighting the cultural differences of Osaka that make it unique from any other city in Japan. He truly loves the city and it shows by his rich detail into not only Osaka history but also its present day culture. 10/10 would recommend

    Definitely worth it.
We had a very knowledgeable and personable tour guide. We saw sites and had great food. I did expect a little more food than we had, but that’s because this is an izikaya tour more than a traditional food tour. But that did not take away from the experience for me.

Great for the beginning of your Kyoto visit
Awesome way to get a quick overview of Kyoto Gion district. We learned about temples/shrines, geisha culture, kabuki theaters, and the small bars and restaurants in and around Gion. Highly recommended for the start of your Kyoto visit. We had Damien as our guide who was amazing.

Our tour started at 6:00PM and Dan was right on time to lead our tour. He was very knowledgeable and friendly. The tour consisted of 3 small meals which started at around 7:00PM. The food offerings were primarily meat and included raw baby squid, horse meat and raw beef. There was also a very interesting peppery jello concoction that was different from anything we had ever had before. We walked the streets to see and learn about scandalous hotels, girls for hire and the legalized/illegal pachinko business......clever. It was a very different side of Japanese culture. I am giving only 3 stars because we didn't feel as though we were given any options/alternatives for food that we didn't care for/eat. We hate to waste any food but we definitely left some behind on this tour. With that said; there was a lot of food. I would recommend this tour to people interested in the side of Japanese culture that doesn't "want pictures taken" and for those people who lean to the side of more exotic food curiosities!

Hi t33th. Sorry to hear the food selection did not meet your expectations. In addition to providing our guests with an opportunity to discuss dietary concerns/preferences before the tour, we are also always happy to change things up at the various restaurants we visit. On this tour as well, our guide asked about foods you might wish to avoid. That said, raw baby squid (1 of the 15+ dishes you saw) is a typical Japanese food. We don't serve raw beef, but the small portion of horse sashimi was indeed raw. This is by far the most exotic of the dishes we offer (and again, we don't force it). Most of the other dishes were more along the lines of what Western palates generally expect of Japanese food. Finally, we absolutely, positively do not teach our guests about "girls for hire". We introduce hostess culture, which is a very different thing. Thank you again for choosing our tour, and for taking the time to review it.

My boyfriend and I did an Osaka food tour and it was so much fun. Our guide Shoji really made the night, the local restaurants we went to were amazing, but Shoji really stole the show. He was by far one of the funniest and friendliest tour guides I’ve ever come across, I would definitely contact him and Pinpoint Traveler again when visiting Japan in the future. We felt really welcomed and at ease in the local gems we visited, and it was great as an English speaking tourist to feel like part of the community and be able to access these restaurants we otherwise might feel uncomfortable going to on our own! Thanks so much Shoji! You deserve a huge raise!

Jacob, thank you kindly for this embarassingly flattering review of Shoji's night tour! We're so happy we were able to make your night with our small group tour of local Osaka's entertaining sights and most flavorful haunts. We love Osaka, and are immensely pleased to share this love with others. And even happier when our guests also fall in love with the place!

Our foodie tour of Osaka was one of the things I was most looking forward to on our trip to Japan. On the day before the tour I received an email from the company asking me whether I was willing to change our original start time of 6pm to 6.30pm which I said was fine. At 11.22am on the day of the tour I was sent an email which stated "Unfortunately the 6pm time slot has ended up with more guests than we intended" and again asked me whether a 6.30pm start would be possible. At 14.46 I was sent a third email to say that the guide had tested positive for Covid and wouldn't be able to run the tour.
This was incredibly disappointing. I had booked a 6pm time slot and had it confirmed several times. I simply cannot understand how this company had booked in more guests than "intended". By this stage it was too late to find another tour, so our visit to Osaka - the foodie capital of Japan - was spent eating very average food in Dotombori.

We deeply apologize about this. It was a freak occurrence due to a guide being ill, and us being unable to find another one in time. This is not how we generally operate our business at all. Since the time of your unfortunately cancellation, we have been busily training new guides so that we may have more backups available for situations just like this.

Fantastic time exploring the streets of Osaka with Kevin. Kevin was great with our kids (teenagers) talking about local culture, food and people and we explored some great local spots we would have never found or had the courage to walk in as tourists in a big city. Thanks Kevin!!

Matthew was a lot of fun and knew both the area and the food really well. The first part of the tour introduced the area and provided some background.

After climbing the second highest natural peak in Osaka (a small hill) and sliding down the playground slide the ice was truly broken and the food came soon after.

Starting at a stand up bar the food was immediately interesting and plentiful. Then a sake bar for some excellent sashimi and skewers before ending up at a hipster joint and the finale of desert fish.

Matthew was a great guide even if he isn’t the biggest fan of wasabi😝

There appear to be many choices with this selection,we did the Pinpoint tour.
Our guide Daniel met us with our fellow tourers- us two and four others, a perfect size given the cozy environments we visited.
We started in the Tenma district and moved on to Kyobashi.
Daniel was extremely outgoing and informative about the neighborhoods, food customs and people we visited. It was very busy everywhere we went and Daniel was very quick on his feet to change plans. He seemed to know everybody and was able to adapt.
The food and drink choices were also adaptable as some people had different preferences. I enjoyed all that was on offer, and there was a lot on offer.
This is a tour I would happily do again. Great for first time visitors to Japan.

Ferdinand did an excellent job of mixing local history, cultural and culinary aspects to the food tour. There was a wide variety of food to try and we were all full of food and drinks by the end. He asked if there were any food aversions which we all denied but realized that things like horse and whale aren’t really even considered food options in North America. We would highly recommend this tour of Temma and Kyobashi as these areas are unique and should not be missed.

We didn’t know what to expect, except our travel agent had strongly recommend we do this, but spending an evening with Matthew was fabulous. We had a very interesting cultural exposure to Osaka on our first night and that set us up for our remaining 5 nights. Matthew has a quick wit and some quirky insights which made it even more enjoyable. I highly recommend this tour.

This might be a good tour, so I booked it for my first ever night in Osaka. Unfortunately, I was late for 5 mins and I had no way to contact nor be contacted by the tour guide for any flexibility to catch up the tour. The customer service was offline (only till 5 pm). Of course the operator refused to refund me.

In addition, it showed 7pm tour when I booked it at UTC+8 time zone in my country. Then it became 6pm when I was landed in Japan. Please give more information about your tour.

Hello. We have nothing to do with how your clock settings are set up, but we can tell you that being on time is very important. When everyone else comes on time, we all have to wait for the latecomers. The restaurants also have to wait (we have reservations). And once the tour starts, it's very difficult to coordinate a rendezvous, and constant communications with a guide who is trying to run a tour ends up being very disruptive. We waited more than 5 minutes, but I think most would agree that it's just not possible to keep waiting and waiting when all the other guests have already arrived.

We got a little tour between which of the eateries which juts added to the experience.

Dear Jim81T, With years in the restaurant and bar business before becoming a tour guide, there's no doubt Levy knows his way around Osaka food and drink, having been on TV both in and outside of Japan multiple times. The best part of this is him being uniquely positioned to make great nights out for our guests! We are flattered by your review, and extremely happy that you enjoyed the evening so much. We aim to really bring our guests into the local world by keeping group sizes very small, venues super genuine and old school, and the sights in between very entertaining. Thank you so much for the review!!
