After being picked up from your hotel, you will visit Hua Hin’s bustling main fresh food market in the city centre. Take in the unique and colourful scene while learning how to choose the ingredients you will be using later.
Then it’s off to the cooking school via a Songthaew – a Thai pickup truck style taxi with seating in the back. After the 5-10 min journey enjoy a refreshing lemongrass tea while learning how to make coconut cream and milk by hand. Then it’s time to prepare and cook your first dish of the day – Panang Curry with Chicken. After pounding out the curry paste from the base ingredients you will have a chance to taste and watch a demonstration dish cooked by your instructor. Now it’s your turn.. Once happy with your dish you can sit down to enjoy it while it’s hot and fresh. Maybe make some notes in your recipe booklet while discussing the dish with your classmates around the big communal dining tables.
The next dishes you will try your ever improving hand at is Laab Moo (a tasty salad of minced pork served with mixed herbs, toasted ground rice + a sweet/sour/salty dressing). Then on to the local staple, Pad Krapow Gai (stir fried chicken with holy basil). Each time following the same process of demonstration and taste. To finish and freshen the palette everyone can chip in to put together a delicious Thai dessert – "Red Rubies" - a refreshing dessert using water chestnut and coconut.
Don’t worry if you don’t like your food spicy as you can customize your creations to suit your tastes. The pace is leisurely and there will be plenty of time to take in the relaxing surroundings. Enjoy a coffee while checking out the koi pond and Asian antiques.
Wear your eating pants as there is a lot of food. We suggest a light breakfast is best. But don’t worry as doggie bags are available!
