After getting picked up from your hotel lobby in Orchha by a personal chauffeur, you'll drive to the 11th century historic town of Chanderi. A local expert will meet you in town to take you to different monuments.
Surrounded by hills, lakes and forests, Chanderi is a town of historical importance in the Ashoknagar District of Madhya Pradesh state in India and is located strategically on the borders of Bundelkhand and the Malwa regions. There are only few places in Madhya Pradesh where you can find a large number of monuments and Chanderi is chief among those tourist destinations.
Approximately 375 historic monuments can be seen in Chanderi, such as the Babur’s Mosque, Khuni Darwaza, Jama and the Juma Masjid, Badal Mahal and the Nizamuddin Tombs.
You will visit Koshak Mahal: a tall building of arches and courts. You will also gaze upon the Kati Ghati Gateway and learn how it has been used since its construction as the entry gate of Chanderi for visitors from Malwa and Bundelkhand. You'll discover the Khandagiri Jain temples, which were carved out of the rock about 700 years ago. Your guide will also share with you knowledge about Chanderi's importance and how it is the center of Jain Culture and has been attracting devotees of Jainism for at least 900 year
Apart from its historic monuments, Chanderi is also famous for its hand-woven Chanderi saris. You will learn about Chanderi's extensive sari production, since more than 50 percent of Chanderi's population of 40,000 works in the sari and dress fabric industry.
You'll savor a home-cooked vegetarian Bundelkhand lunch at a picnic spot after you have visited the famous monuments. You'll also make multiple stops to enjoy the beautiful landscape of central India on the drive back to Orchha.
At the conclusion of the tour, your chauffeur will drop you back off at your hotel in Orchha or at the railway station (based on your preferences).
