What to expect
  • Discover the history, the architecture and charm of some places most locals don’t even know exist. The evolution of Bucharest is one of the best instances of the ambiguous relationship existing between the Romanian lands and the Ottoman Empire. Although it was not an Ottoman town, it shared many aspects with towns in the Ottoman area of influence. One of these shared aspects was the division by Mahallas. Mahallas were small quarters of the town which arose around a religious building and which were often inhabited by a homogeneous community of people belonging to the same ethnic, social or religious groups. As the town grew, mahallas fused with each other giving birth to wider neighborhoods that suffered through waves of modernization, earthquakes, wars and Ceausescu's demolition projects. This was the fate of neighborhoods like the Armenian Quarter, Mantuleasa, the Old Jewish Quarter & Batistei. Discover and learn about all the mixtures of architecture, cultures and cuisines. Walking around the oldest parts of the city can make you thirsty, so, to top it all off, also included is some leisure time in Bucharest’s most beautiful summer gardens and teahouses, some of them are in 100-year-old houses. Stop and take some refreshments (own expense).

A True Hidden Gem of a Tour!
Sep 2021
This was a great tour where you really learned about the history of Romania and who Bucharest evolved into what it is today. There were some beautiful buildings that you would never see on any regular tour as well as interesting churches and cultural buildings. ANDRA was a FANTASTIC GUIDE!

The tour and the guide are Hidden Gems
Nov 2018
Dana our tour guide took us wandering through the beautiful neighborhood streets of Bucharest. We saw and learned about the different styles of architecture there. It was so enjoyable to stroll along chatting about the city, country and learn about the differences in our cultures. We didn't want it to end. We felt like we met a friend who wanted to share her love of the city and country.

Wonderful experience
Jul 2018
What a wonderful way to see Bucharest. Arrived last night and starting a tour today so wanted to see The other side of Bucharest. Andrie my Guide was very knowledgeable and I learnt a lot about the great architecture in the hidden street, history, and living in Bucharest today. We stopped at a lovely cafe for coffee, and it was the perfect way to start my holiday. Can highly recommend the tour.
