    What to Expect
In the old upper town we will take a historic walk through its alleys and monuments, passing by charming palaces and famous St. Mark’s Church. We shall also visit the unique Museum of Broken Relationships. From the upper town we shall walk to downtown, visit Zagreb’s Cathedral and pass through Croatia’s biggest Farmers Market called Dolac.

Dolac is placed in the very heart of Zagreb.

You will have an enchanting experience where all of your senses will be activated magically. It is a unique market where different Croatian customs and gastronomic diversity meet at one place. Unlike most markets, Dolac is a permanent installation and is open seven days a week. After Dolac we continue with our walk and experience vibrant streets, parks and squares of the Zagreb city center. You will have the opportunity to tryout locals’ favorite activity – drinking coffee at one of numerous street cafés in the city center.

    Knowledgeable and friendly!
We did a one day private wine tour with Jakov. He was very friendly and made us feel at home. He speaks great English so communication wasn’t a problem at all. Jakov is amazingly knowledgeable and he shared with us many interesting stories about the places we were visiting, history, politics, etc. We visited Maribor and Plešivica where we had an amazing time tasting wine and enjoying a delicious home made lunch by one of Jakov’s friends. The food was homely but incredibly tasty! We enjoyed ourselves and it felt like a friend bringing you around his country instead of a commercial tour. There was no pressure to buy things and we didn’t have a tight schedule to follow. Jakov was also very responsive when we were corresponding over email and he was able to customize the itineraries according to our personal preferences. Highly recommended!

    BEST TOUR EVER
I highly recommend The Guide. Marko is the perfect guide - knowledgeable, always cheerful, prompt, conscientiously followed our itinerary. We saw Croatia through Marko’s eyes. His love for his country is very evident. So, aside from seeing all the touristic spots, my husband and I appreciated the history of Croatia and its people.

    12-day Private Tour of Croatia
We were a group of 6 friends who had a wonderfully guided private tour of Croatia under our guides -Jakov for one day and Marko for the rest. We started from Zagreb and finished in Dubrovnik visiting Lake Bled, Motovun, Rovinj, Plitvice, Hvar, Split, Mostar, Korcula and Kotor. The trip was well planned and well paced with time for great meals, photos and ice cream. The highlight of the trip was a surprise meal at Jakov’s parents’ home to sample a sumptuous home cooked traditional Croatian meal and of course home made prosciutto which was excellent. The hotels provided were great and always located close to the old town so that we could visit the nearby shops and markets except for Hvar and Dubrovnik when we were right next to the sea with great sea view rooms. Overall, a very enjoyable trip. I would recommend “the guide” for any trip to Croatia. Jakov was always very quick to respond to our questions and very obliging to our requests. Marko was knowledgeable and resourcefully and seems to know every road in Croatia.

Outstanding Private two-week tour of Croatia and Slovenia
Words cannot begin to tell what a wonderful experience our road trip was. We spent two glorious weeks exploring Croatia and Slovenia- five days with Marco, and the rest of the time with Jakov. Both guides were amazing. They not only know what they are doing, they make every minute of the day memorable. It is rare to come face to face with such dedicated and passionate people. What sets The Guide apart from other tour companies I have dealt with is their attention to detail. In every restaurant we ate at, every hotel we stayed at, and every site we visited, they knew the people who worked there. We made contact with the locals we could have never had without them. They knew how to get us a place at all the restaurants that were telling other people that they were fully booked, and believe me, we were never squeezed into a corner, but got the best tables in the place. When you tour with Jakov and Marco, you are no longer just another tourist: you are a traveller. Imagine enjoying a traditional home cooked meal in the countryside with Jakov's mother, father, and uncle. We were treated with warmth and generosity, and fed like kings. What an experience! We will never forget Jakov's dad's delicious homemade prosciutto and homemade schnapps and wine, nor his mother's veal, chicken, and pork Under the Bell. On our last night, we had the pleasure of meeting Jakov's wife Nina who presented us with a ready-to put-on-the wall photo of us eating at a super restaurant in Rovinj. How thoughtful! Nina had also prepared us a bag of goodies( Sparkling wine, guide book, treats to eat, and a polo shirt with Croatia written on it) that we were given the minute we met Jakov. What an incredibly generous and thoughtful gesture! Even more, we were fortunate to spend our last evening in Zagreb with Jakov, Nina, and his two little boys- Max and Jan. It was one of the many highlights of our trip. We will be forever grateful to all of our new Croatian friends. Hats off to everyone for a splendid trip. If you are ever in Croatia, TheGuide is the one to choose. You will not find better.

    Excellent Day Tour
Oliver was an excellent guide driving our group of 5 women from Split to Dubrovnik. We visited Mostar, Medjugorje, Ston for oysters and also stopped at a beautiful vineyard, taking this very scenic route. I highly recommend this private tour.

    Amazing Tours!
We did several tours with The Guide (Jakov) during our stay in Slovenia and Croatia. Everything was planned perfectly and Jakov was professional, prompt, and planned excellent day trips for us. We have two small children and it can be very stressful to take tours - Jakov was flexible and accommodating when we needed to change things up (even mid-tour). Our kids also LOVED him! We will definitely use this company again and will recommend them (we actually already have) without hesitation.

It was a great couples of days
We had a great couple of days with Marko who was terrific. Nothing was ever too much trouble. He was knowledgeable and patient and made it a easy and enjoyable day with seeing and learning lots of things but also in a nice and relaxed way. The two wineries were interesting and meeting and talking to the wine maker Robert and enjoying the home cooked meal by his wife with matching wines was really great. Thank you.

    The Best of the Best
My husband and I spent two wonderful weeks with Jakov, starting in Slovenia, traveling through Croatia and even spending a day in Montenegro. Planning the trip was a pleasure - not only did we correspond by email but we spoke so that he could fully understand what we had in mind and why, and then personalize the itinerary. Jakov's enthusiasm is boundless and his energy outstanding. Hie has an endless wealth of knowledge, particularly history, culture, geography. Discussions were lively and enlightening. At the same time, he is fun and easy to spend time with. Though we had a set an itinerary, every morning we discussed alternatives and options for the day. Unfortunately we had terrible weather, heavy rain for the first 8 days. Jakov readily adjusted the plans to suit our needs as well as keeping us dry. He is also always on time, an excellent driver, and willing to do whatever it takes to enhance your trip. Whatever your need and expectations - Jakov will be there for you.

Krapina, Trakoscan and Varazdin day tour from Zagreb
We really enjoyed our private day tour with Marko to Krapina cave, and Trakoscan and Varazdin castles. Marko was very knowledgeable not only about the sites, but also life in Croatia, giving us a better understanding of the country. Highly recommended.

    Two great day trips.
During our stay in Croatia, we took two tours with The Guide; Slovenia in a Day and Plitivice Lakes. Needless to say, both trips were throughly enjoyable and the scenery was breathtaking. In arranging the trips, Jakov was patient, flexible and sensitive in meeting our needs. Marko was our guide and driver for both trips and we found him to be very courteous, friendly, enthusiastic and knowledgeable. His love for the area was evident in his recounting historical events and background information and his whole outlook was infectious. We highly recommend Jakov, Marko and The Guide. Exploring Croatia and Mostar en route to Split
At the recent NY Times Travel show, I took a break from staffing the Discover Albany/Erie Canal booth to get material for our upcoming trip to Croatia. Fortunately for me they had information about The Guide private tours. I wrote to Jakov who crafted a proposal for our entire week, we tweaked it with certain existing parameters and he revised the proposal to meet our needs. We ended up choosing 2 of the suggested tours - the first was getting us to split from Dubrovnik via Ston (For Oysters and wine tasting in the Peljesec peninsula) and driving through Bosnia and visiting the old town of Mostar. Our driver and guide, Oliver, a Split Native was warm, enthusiastic, full of great tidbits and very proud Croatian. We had a great day with him and he gave us great tips to get the most out of Split the following day.

15 Day Private Tour Venice - Slovenia - Croatia Family History Search
This was the "TRIP OF OUR LIFETIME" for my siblings to find our ancestral village to visit family and see the splendor that is Croatia! This was my third trip to Croatia but the first for my siblings. We were a group of 7 (3 sisters, partner, friend and niece) ranging from 26 to 70. I did not want the responsibility of organizing a group. That is where THE Guide took over. THE Guide - Jakov prepared an itinerary starting in Venice, through Slovenia and all of Croatia. There was no detail that he did not plan or account for. He was tour guide, driver, manager and host!! He was accommodating to changes in the plan to add a new stop so that we did not miss anything or adjust to seasonal conditions..He has more energy than the energizer bunny. His van was immaculate every day of the trip. We kept an aggressive schedule to maximize our travel experiences. He genuinely wanted to share his beautiful country with our group. He helped translate when meeting the relatives and doing family tree and genealogy research. He was like a member of the family. He knew where to go and how to avoid any lines or crowds. His recommendations for restaurants and food were always spot on. The meals that he arranged were amazing. Quite simply,we were with the consummate professional Croatian who shared his family and country. That is why he can claim the title, "THE GUIDE" Hvala, Jakov.

    Very Well Organised.
Wanting a more personalised trip to some of our wish-list spots while in Zagreb, we contacted The Guide after randomly finding his flyer downtown. Once contacted, Jacob and his crew communicated in a very timely fashion; supported our requests; collected our party from our accomodation in a very comfortable van; drove us to all our highlights and added a few they through we might like; provided great commentary to both our questions and the local history, and returned us safely. Great sense of humour, well priced, good english and a very solid understanding of visitors time and interests. So impressed that we hired the company again the next day for our adventures. Definitely recommend these guys.

    Private day tour through Istria
Having done a couple of tours with Jakov I was looking forward to meeting up again to see more of this amazing country. Unfortunately Jakov was not available. However he recomended Marko, one of his colegues. What a pleasant surprise to counter our initial disapointment. Marko proved to be an exceptional guide. He took us to places we wanted to see along with some surprising out of the way places. He was extremely knowledgeable and very amusing when discussing the people and issues facing this fledgling country. We had a fantastic time.
