Great hike through the highlands and a day at Machu Picchu at the end
Feb 2020 • Friends
We had a great hike with Bamba, led by Junior with superb cooking by Jorge. Made for an excellent experience after we unfortunately got changed at the last minute from the Inca trail to the Lares trek - landslides closed the Inca trail for all operators.
Junior made sure our time in Peru was still unforgettable.
Would highly recommend
Hope to go back one day and do the Inca Trail

Unforgettable Experience- thank you!
Jan 2020 • Couples
Bombas booked us on the Lares trek due to poor conditions on the Inca Trail (the trail closed to the entire public). The Lares trail far exceeded our expectations. It was a gorgeous trek and we had the opportunity to meet many local people/villages along the way. Our tour guide Junior and the chef Jorge were outstanding. Junior was so knowledgeable and we truly enjoyed his company. I highly recommend this tour!!

Amazing time on the Lares Trek!!
Nov 2019 • Friends
Had an absolutely wonderful time on the Lares Trek with our guide Percy! He went above and beyond showing us all about life in the Andes and also just being someone really fun to be around. Our chef Victoriano was also so great - cooking such good food and catering to us being vegetarian. The horseman Luis was also so sweet.

Absolutely amazing!
My friend and I went on this expedition with no expectations at all and they have been exceeded incredibly!

We were doing the trip with Percy, the horseman Luis, and cook Vittoriano, and two mules. Percy was an exceptional guide, he was extremely interested and very fun to do the trip with. The food that was cooked was amazing and inspired by Peruvian cuisine. Vittoriano had no problem cooking vegetarian for us. The benefit of doing the Lares trek is that you hike through local communities and really get to know how many families live in the Andies

Would definitely recommend!

Willy the Great!!!
Our Lares trek with Bamba to Machu Picchu was surprisingly only myself and my wife, and we had a great time all because of Willy (our tour guide) and our excellant chef, Victor.

Willy not only walked at our pace, but also made slight amendments to our trek to ensure we got the most out of the trek. Willy was excellent in helping us communicate with local Andian people in Quechua, but also explained the local culture and the everyday struggles they endure.

Victor was a brilliant chef. My wife and I are vegetarian, and were apprehensive over the food we would receive. So apprehensive that we packed some emergency porridge with us, just incase we were left hungry. But after the first meal, we knew we had nothing to worry about in Victor's capable hands. All our meals were delicious - both the starter and main course.

I would definitely recommend this trek to anyone who wishes to hike to a decent altitude, experience living with local Andian people, and learn about the Inca history and culture.

It's also great if you want to beat the tourists. We only saw two other tour groups the whole 4 days of our hike.

I would recommend you request both Willy and Victor regardless of which Trek you take with Bamba.

Lares trek to Machu Picchu
Oct 2019 • Solo
Did this trek with 2 others travelers plus our tour guide Anderson. He was an amazing guide. Always accommodating for when we needed breaks and giving extra breaks to make sure we were feeling ok with altitude and everything. Anderson was incredibly knowledgeable not just on the culture and history but the plants and everything else along the way. He even has a binder with pictures when we got Machu Picchu as he explained the history. Along with his vast knowledge he also was very personable and speaks very fluent English.

Experience of a lifetime!
Oct 2019 • Friends
Just finished a 3-week trip to South America and for me, the highlight was the Lares Trek to Machu Picchu - thanks to Percy (guide), Carlos (cook), and Tomas (horseman).

Percy was an incredible guide! He made sure that the trek was well-paced and was very considerate of our different trekking experiences and the weather changes. He was very knowledgeable about Peruvian and Incan culture. I also appreciated his eagerness to learn about our culture (Australian and Filipino).

Carlos' cooking skills were very impressive! The food he served had so much variety and of course, very delicious!

Big thanks to the horseman, Tomas, as well. He was so efficient and made sure our tents were ready at our camping site.

I highly recommend the team and the company to do any treks or trips within Peru!

Trek of a lifetime!
Oct 2019 • Friends
Finished the Lares trek with my friend a few days ago and it was a fantastic experience all round! The meals cooked by Carlos was above and beyond amazing, and we were fed so well each day. Thomas the horseman was so efficient in getting our camp ready before we arrived.

Our guide Percy was so awesome and supportive throughout the whole trek despite the changing weather conditions. It was so cool to listen to all the knowledge he has to share from history, geography, to learning some Quechua words!

Tip: also get bubbles from the markets (aside from notebooks and pens!) We found children love them!

Do it!
I had originally planned to do the Inca Trail Trek with friends, but when they ran out of permits this was suggested as an alternative. It did not disappoint! In fact comparing pictures and swapping stories I honestly think I got the better adventure. I cannot describe how majestic and serene this trek is. Much of the time you won’t see anyone besides your own group. It’s so beautiful and peaceful. It’s also not very difficult, a very gradual uphill day 1, and the morning of day 2, then all downhill. Reaching the highest point and enjoying the views was definitely the highlight for me, but also meeting villagers along the way and sharing treats with the kids was fun. *tip: bring treats or small toys for the children and extra soles to buy things from the adults.

Our guide Percy is the best you can get. He knows everything! He grew up on Machu Picchu, is familiar with all sorts of native plants and animals, speaks Quechua (the language spoken in the remote villages we passed through) and just made everything so meaningful. We had amazing food every single meal prepared by our cook, Carlos and our tents and gear were always set up for us before we arrived because of our super speedy horseman.

Ending at Machu Picchu is icing on the cake, and hopefully you have someone as knowledgeable as Percy for your guide to bring history to life. This trek was a dream. Do it!

4-Day Lares Trek--loved it!
Sep 2019
I highly recommend the Lares Trek to Machu Picchu (4D-3N) as a serene, culturally fascinating, and less rigorous alternative to the Inka Trail. My friend and I went the end of September and the weather was great. Percy was our guide and took exceptional care of our small group! We were picked up at our Cusco hotel, stopped at a local market for fruit smoothies and for our chef, Carlos, to pick up supplies for his delicious multi-course meals for the next few days. Highlights were the peaceful hiking through the high Andes alpaca and llama grazing fields, having adorable village children come greet us (make sure to bring some of your local candies/treats to share with them...we ran out and wished we had had more) and listening to our guide's many insights and stories about his culture, people and history over amazing meals! Percy's tour with us at Machu Picchu was particularly meaningful and special. I wouldn't have had nearly the same deeply-felt experience without hearing everything that he shared from his heart as this was where he grew up! I do regret not getting a permit in time to climb either Machu Picchu peak or Huayna Picchu peak. Reserve these permits early! Also, it was really important to have a good stash of coins and low bills on this trek as using toilets often cost 1sol and there were many opportunities to buy souvenir and artisan clothing items from village people along the way. Having enough money to tip your cook and horseman is important too as there are no ATM's along the way before saying goodbye to them. Your guide stays with you an extra day at Machu Picchu. The process of getting back to Cusco hotel by train and car/van was very smooth with people holding signs with our names. Not stressful at all.
