What to expect
  • First, you will meet the guide at Central MTR station Exit A. After taking the subway to the eastern side of the Hong Kong Island (subway transportation not included, cost is about HKD 10), you'll hop on a red minibus taking you to the beginning of the trail. You can expect to take about one hour to get there. Dragon's Back is part of Hong Kong trail whose total distance is approximately 5 miles (8 kilometers). The first third of the trail is a bit more challenging due to it being uphill and more exposed to sun. The remainder of the trail is flat and is considered as easy. The trail finishes at a beach called Big Wave Bay where your group will rest and have a local craft beer (or other type of drink). A changing room is available to change into a swimsuit where you can jump into the beautiful water. You can expect it will take about three hours for the hike and 30 to 60 minutes to relax at the beach. Finally the guide will lead you to take minibus on your journey back to the nearest subway station. Depending on the date, you should return to Shau Kei Wan MTR Station Exit A2 five hours later.

Bob's the best!
This guided tour/hike was one of the best I have been to. Bob was a wealth of knowledge and kept checking on us from time to time. The tour was not rushed at all, Bob was very accommodating with taking our photos and moving at a leisurely pace. Highly recommend this to anyone thinking of going for it. Thank you Bob! You are awesome.

Dragon Back’s Hiking Tour - wonderful half day trip!
Nov 2019 • Solo
The Dragon Back hiking tour exceeded my expectations! Our guide was wonderful and his experience and genuine friendliness help to cultivate a truly memorable experience. The quick trek through the metro and mini-bus was fun to the trail starting point. The hike was just challenging enough to get a small work out/blood pumping but also be able to have energy left to go on with your day after the tour. The views were spectacular, the sea breeze refreshing, and relaxing by the ocean beach, with a fresh coconut purchased at a local stand, at the end of the tour was serene. Also, wonderfully unexpected during the hike was seeing a lot of butterflies. Hong Kong Island had over 100 species of butterflies! I recommend this hike to anyone who would like a quick escape from the hustle and bustle of the city and soak up some nature during their short stay in Hong Kong. Definitely worth the time and money!!!

Brilliant hike, exceptional guide
My wife and I was looking forward to this one long before and it did not disappoint. We met our awesome guide Bob Ng downtown and then used public transport to the start of the trail. Beautiful views from start to finish and added to that the knowledge, humour and friendliness of Bob made this a very special tour. We can’t thank him enough for the company on the hike as well as the added on bonus bits. I can not recommend this enough to anyone with some basic fitness, as there’s a mountain to scale (not a massive one though).

Hiking the Dragon's Back
Jul 2019 • Solo
I hiked the Dragon's Back yesterday with Bob Ng and we had such a great afternoon. I was able to discover the nature part of Hong Kong in a short time and Bob gave us so much informations regarding the landscape. He explained the different view points and as I am here for a few days he gave me some tips. I loved to end up at the beach and to see the sunset for a moment. Thank you Bob.

Dragon's Back with Bob
Jun 2018 • Couples
It's actually been quite a while since we've done our hiking tour with Bob, but he's left such a great impression on me and my husband!

Bob is so personable and knowledgable, he made our entire hike not only fun but much more enjoyable than we had anticipated! We weren't sure what to expect, especially when we met up with our group that day. But Bob was so patient with everyone, it was refreshing to see someone so genuine.

As for the hike itself, pretty much every part of it was breathtaking. The view, the climbing, and the village at the end. I was a little disappointed we didn't get to visit the beach, but because of some of the participants in our group, we were behind schedule and it was dark by the time we finished our hike. Bob had so many facts that complemented the hike and what we were seeing, but also knew when to fall back when my husband and I wanted to be alone.

Hiking Dragon's Back with Bob
Feb 2019 • Couples
Well, probably almost everybody can hike this fantastic part of Hong Kong's trails and enjoy hiking, the outstanding sights and simply that great feeling of being outdoors.
But to me the decisive difference was Bob, the tour guide.
He didn't only handle the whole activity from the meeting point at the MRT, the bus to the starting point of the hike, the hike itself (and later back) - this is something you would expect from a "normal" tour guide. But in addition to that he simply is a pleasant companion who listens and shares his love for hiking and his knowledge (not only of the trail).
All in all, highly recommendable for those who love hiking and good company.

Dragon's Back Hike
Bob was a great hiking guide. He was friendly and cheerful and spent time chatting to everyone in the group. He was knowledgable about hiking in Hong Kong, and also had some snippets of history/facts about Hong Kong, which I enjoyed as they were brief and there wasn't too much of them. Hike was at a slow pace, expected the whole experience to be a little shorter. Highly recommend at least one hike if you are in Hong Kong, and this one was great value for money (although the MTR from Central to the minibus taxi should have been included in the price) and a great way to experience a taste of the hiking experiences Hong Kong has to offer. Looking forward to coming back and doing a different hike with Bob.

Dragon Back Hiking tour with Bob!
Nov 2018 • Friends
The hike over Dragon Back was a highlight of our stay on HK island. Although wet for the duration, and therefore a little slippery in parts, it was a great way to get out of the city and see the countryside. Our guide Bob was a treat, and full of interesting facts and figures about the area and HK in general. Even debunked a myth or 2! Highly recommended.

When my boyfriend and I were staying in HK, we went on a Dragon's Back hiking tour with Bob. Now, Bob may be working for a company, but he does these walks simply because he enjoys them as well as meeting new people. He is an extremely warm-hearted and open person, who can talk about many different subjects and will go out of his way to make you feel comfortable and welcome.
After the walk, we all went for a drink. An absolutely fantastic day!! Can't recommend this tour highly enough.
