About
After we meet at 6:30 am, we'll go towards the natural park Chicaque through the south of Bogota, the town of Soacha and getting to the San Antonio town rural area where the park is located. We'll start stretching and warming up to hike a downhill of 2 km throug, where we'll witness abundant species of vegetation, birds, insects, rodents, etc; then we'll get the Rock Pick with a marvelous landscape view. Then we'll get to the restaurant-lodge at the bottom of the park for a small break. We will continue to the beautiful waterfall of high altitude coming from the mountains. Later on, travelers have the option to pay for a typical lunch back in the restaurant-lodge. Finally we will come back to the the park's entrance, hiking upwards on the mountain which is the most demanding as well as rewarding part of the tour; however, you will always find the option to take a jeep for an extra charge you'll have to pay in the lodge. We will end our tour in the starting point (El Dorado Plaza).

Peaceful trek in the cloud forest
I had the opportunity to visit Bogotá on a work trip and added one day for adventure. This was the ideal choice with a nice early start time to beat the traffic and the crowds. Carlo is a fantastic guide he was very communicative and made it easy for me with hotel pick up and drop off. On the trail, he was concerned for our safety, pointing out slippery rocks and roots and when the trail narrowed.

It was a very misty day with low visibility, but that didn’t matter so much since there were so many new trees and plants to enjoy. Carlo is very knowledgeable about Colombian history and kindly answered my many questions. I learned a lot about the land and the people. We were able to keep a pretty good pace so with lunch and travel time, the experience lasted from 6:30-3p with about 3.5 hours hiking. Ideal as I needed some rest after the flight in.

All in all a great trip and a great way to spend the time even if you have just one extra day in the city. I look forward to my return and reconnecting with Carlo for more trekking aventures!

Great tour!
Tour was excellent. It was well planned with a good timing, start in the morning enabled catching best weather and great views. Optional lunch in the lodge was a nice break full of pleasant conversations and good food. 2 guides were flexible and quckly adjusted the pace to different fitness level.

A great day out in Chicaque Natural Park
Sep 2019
My colleague and I went to Chicaque Natural Park with Carlos and had a great time. Carlos picked us up at the hotel and we arrived at the park 1,5 hours later. It was a Saturday morning and we were almost alone in the park.

The trek starts downhill with great views and many photo opportunities. We opted for the zipline (do it!) which was equally fun and terrifying. After lunch at the refuge, we walked back up again. It was a bit steep but absolutely doable.

Carlos is a great guide - he looks out for the group and makes sure everyone is comfortable. He knows a lot about the flora and wildlife in the park, but also a lot about Colombia in general. He is also fun and easy to talk to! I can warmly recommend this trip.

Thanks again for a great day Carlos!

1st Hike in Colombia - Memorable!
This was our first hike in Columbia and it was a great one. Carlo’s knowledge of the area and its history made the hike even more enjoyable.

Starting at the top of the mountain you’ll make your way down and then out a spur trail to “Pico” which includes a couple of short but steep rock scrambles.

As you make your way down the mountain the trail is rocky and somewhat steep but flattens out at the bottom.

Be sure to stop at the Refugio restaurant and hiker hostel. It has a quaint & rustic atmosphere and offers a good selection of food at reasonable prices.

From Refugio you can continue on the trail to a waterfall or explore streams nearby.

Your return is a steep climb which may be a challenge for non-hikers, however the park offers a jeep (Land Rover) ride to the top of the mountain for an additional charge.

We had a great time and highly recommend booking your hike with Carlo!

Amazing Tour
Jun 2019
I can't recommend this tour enough. Saw a really beautiful park that we had almost completely to ourselves for the day.

Carlo is very friendly and knows a lot about the park, its history and its geography. The hike can be quite intense at times but Carlo can adjust the distance and speed quite well so if you want to challenge yourself, that's definitely possible.

On the day I went it was quite misty so we didn't get the view from the very top but the cloud lifted when we were at the peak to allow us a view over the valley below. The mist really added to the hike to the waterfall as the treetops are shrouded and it makes for a magical view, so don't be put off if it's misty at the top!

We had the chance to do a zipline over the treetops which I certainly recommend.

An Overall Excellent Experience!
Jun 2019 • Solo
We were picked up by our guide, Carlo, at the Plaza Dorado, and proceeded by car to the Chicaque Natural Park. Travel time, through the Bogota traffic, took about an hour, and offered a good opportunity to see various diverse parts of the city.

Once at the park, we took a bit of time to do some warm-up exercises and stretching, and then set out on the hike. The first part, after passing the ticket building, consists of some stone/concrete stairs, which lead to a level platform with a spectacular view of the valley.

From there, we continued down into the valley, and the trail transitioned to a dirt trail with occasional tree roots and rocks. Some parts were fairly steep, so it was necessary to take care, and it reinforced the need for proper footwear. The drop in elevation was approximately 400 meters, to reach the bottom.

During the hike, Carlo pointed out various trees and plants, and offered insight regarding the types of birds and animals which inhabit the Andean Forest.

At the bottom, we trekked until we reached a lodge, where we took a bit of a break. Here we met some resident dogs, cats, and llamas!

After our rest interval, we continued our hike to the waterfall, The initial part of this trek was uphill, and a bit strenuous, but the trail eventually leveled off, and had some up and down parts. At the waterfall, we took a break in order to enjoy the beauty of the location, and to take photographs.

Following this, we hiked back to the lodge, where we took our lunch. Lots of options, and many traditional Colombian dishes on the menu. Excellent food, enjoyed with a glass of fresh squeezed lemonade. The cost of the lunch is not included in the tour, and my meal, with a small tip, amounted to 16,000 COP.

Once fortified by a good meal, plus a rest interval, we embarked on the grueling uphill hike back to the rim of the park. I have to commend Carlo, as he set a very comfortable pace for this, neither too fast nor too slow, with opportunity for rest intervals where necessary, so we were able to reach the rim in 50 minutes. This is a little faster than average, as Carlo indicated that the normal pace is 70-75 minutes for this portion of the hike.

Back at the top, we again did some stretches and exercises to benefit our tired leg muscles, and then returned to the car for the drive back into the city. The return trip took slightly longer, as the traffic was more extensive than during the morning drive.

Thank you to Carlo for a wonderful day.

If you are looking for a scenic hike, with an excellent guide, and a great workout, I would highly recommend this one!
