We are not very passionate about guided trips but this tour was so good that I feel to recommend it. The vibes were nice also because of the tour guide and the driver. The bus was so comfortable and during the way the guide entertained us in a good easy English. The driver made all very smooth and we felt him care about all the group. I would continue forever obviously the places we visited were terrific but the difference to me is about the people. I enjoined a lot the day and also my boyfriend did

We took two tours from Jerusalem on Sunday 28th November it was old Jerusalem and Bethlehem and the 30th Massada and The Dead Sea. My words to
The Manager of BeinHarim Tourist tours and Excursions.
We decided to visit Israel once your government opened the country to tourism at the beginning of November. It was not easy to co-inside excursions with our departure dates and be in SAFED on the Sabbath morning.
All your staff was very helpful but we must compliment Nir in particular. His professionalism and sound advice was instrumental in the perfect holiday we enjoyed.
Even the weather was great. It only rained on Wednesday our museum day!
Nir has à smile in his voice and one can detect the passion with which he does his job.
Because of the difficulty in finding excursions that were running on the days we needed: I also contacted other excursion operators in Israel and New York. We live in France.
I assure you none of them are in your league, some understood less of their products than I. One or two were at the limit of rudeness.
We enjoyed our two tours with your company but believe (from personal experience in hospitality) your ability to attract or train staff, especially those on the first line in contact with potential clients is the essence of good management. You are particularly blessed to have found Nir and created such a good team.
Sincere thanks.

Very well organized tour! Also, excellent pick up, and drop off. Our tour guide, Itamar, did an amazing job. Not only did he offer a lot of information and explanations about the tour sights, but also provided many fascinating insights, background and perspectives about Israel. Just one suggestion to the organizers: The visit to the Dead Sea fell a little short compared to the overall experience since the resort was quite crowded (many busses stopping at the same time) and the area for "swimming" in the Dead Sea was a little small. We do understand that it might also be a matter of keeping the price for the tour package down, but maybe there are alternative options. But anyhow, we enjoyed the trip very much and would definitely recommend this tour!!!

Our tour guide was wonderful. He was incredibly knowledgable and charming. He also presented the crisis in the area in a balanced and compassionate way. I would not recommend this tour. First of all, you wait around for at least an hour in the beginning so they can affordably get all the different people on different tours sorted. So it's a bunch of sitting around and making them money at the cafe. They did this twice - and I am positive that they are making a cut of what you spend at the cafe you meet for the first bus and then the cafe you meet for at the second bus.

THEN!!! They take you to a souvenir shop and you have to listen to their sales pitch and again - they are making money off of this. After the tourist trap in Jerusalem they had us do the same thing at the Dead Sea, where you have to sit through a sales pitch at a beauty product store.

And if that isn't bad enough, they you pay $17US for a wrap and drink with no plate. They are ribbing you off.

And it's expensive!!

Dear GarlicWineCheese, We appreciate your feedback and very happy to learn you’ve enjoyed our wonderful guide. Group tours logistics are complex and are required to provide solutions for a wide range of needs of a large number of people. The customer doesn’t always see the big picture and consider all the smallest details. We offer private tours, in which the customer’s personal wishes and needs dictates the itinerary and schedule. We deny any accusation implicating Bein Harim profiting in a non-honest way from cooperating with local businesses. At no point the customer is forced to listen to a sales pitch or buy anything. Again, these stops are taken for many needs other than shopping – some cooling down at the AC and a bathroom break, for example. Prices in Israel are high. There’s nothing we can do about it, unfortunately. We apologize for your dissatisfaction with our tour, but as mentioned, this is a group tour that requires a lot of logistics and coordination. The private tours are much more flexible.

We would not recommend to attend this tour, as you spend 3 out 5 stops at annoying places (0 sea level stop in the middle of nowhere, factory shop, bad and mass-tourism restaurant). The tour guide was friendly, but unfortunately not experienced and so reading the lonley planet is more informative.
Neverthless visiting Masada and the dead sea is absoultly worth and you just need to find the right company, where you might go to Eni Geidi instead of visiting factory shops.

Dear Christoph, We are sorry that this was the nature of the tour experience for you. The Sea Level marking along the way is surely significant information for those first-timers who are understanding they are about to enter the lowest area on earth when you visit locations (this one is the most frequented in our country!!) Indeed after Covid where we were in lockdown for 2 years, we are thrilled that travelers have returned to visit in volumes to our country and its spectacular locations. There have always been few restaurants in this desert region (as you surely saw the landscape)...and some did not survive Covid, so the options where places cater for groups and volumes of travelers as a group, are very few at present and also have to be suitable to stop at along the way (without backtracking over 50kms!) We are more concerned about what you mention about our guide and will check into this. The nature reserve of Ein Gedi that you mention is for a different kind of tour and cannot be fitted into the schedule. Trekking in Ein Gedi cannot suit all travelers, regrettably. Sincerely, Bein Harim

Factory tourism at its worst! The guide was competent but very superficial and didn't even bother to show the most important parts of Masada, when I asked him where all the Jews committed suicide (which is hugely historically important) he did not know and my friend who lived here wanted to show me, but he was like come on, come on. The movie that told the story was dubbed with a stong American accent. So much for Israeli pride! The restaurant advertised was not what I was sent in any way shape or form, it was a cattle station baymari service with all other bus travellers and for 70 sheckles ( a full lunch) I got the most revolting options and overcooked to death. A vegetarian would not be happy and a vegan, don't even think about it! Dead sea (Kalia beach tourist trap) was an occupational health and safety area nightmare. If your reading this and you know any locals, tell them to set up their own local business as these factory tours are shameful, cheap and superficial. Ps. the driver was lovely

Dear Earthsuitlife, We are sorry this was the nature of your experience. We will certainly look into what you mention about the guide's competence and commentary that should be up to par. The Park's board made the film! We stop there for general viewing. The restaurant is a matter that is being dealt with. Since Covid many did not survive to reopen so we are called upon to have the restaurant stop where possible along the route. Yes, they cater to volumes and group tourism, an acceptable practice here. Matters of taste and preference must be taken up with the restaurant. Kalia beach has been seriously upgraded into a bustling resort, catering to all kinds of travelers. It is clear this is not what you expected. The few beaches with facilities along this entire coast are more or less the same. Glad you were satisfied with the driver. Sincerely, Bein Harim team

Tour guide was Frank. He was very good and informative even on the drive there. Masada was beautiful, though hot, and he gave us a ton of info while there. Getting to see some of the original architecture and setup of King Herod’s palace was wonderful. Masada is hot and direct sunlight most of the time so be prepared. Went to lunch after that where there is also a souvenir shop. Then we went to the Dead Sea which is beautiful and salty. Spent an hour there and there is a souvenir shop as well.

Logistics:
Very well organized. Charter bus picks you up (when I went they were only doing one pickup location near me but walking/biking/scooters make it fairly simple to get to if you’re staying nearby). Buses do have usb outlets in the ceiling. Our trip bus stopped at cafe/gas station before heading to Masada so you can get drinks/bathroom/snacks there.
There’s a bathroom right when we get to Masada and a place to fill up water but it was t super cold. Spent a couple hours at Masada then left for lunch where there’s also a souvenir shop to go to. However, there’s a shop at the Dead Sea as well. Some of the Dead Sea products were cheaper at the Dead Sea but the shop at lunch had more things overall I think. Then to the Dead Sea. We only spent an hour there (tour said 2) but it was plenty of time since it’s so hot so you don’t really want to stay in too long. There is a place to change there and you can rent or buy a towel too.

Comparing the 3 I went on (separate reviews under same name for each but here’s a summary if you’re trying to choose between a few). I think they were all wonderful for different reason so hopefully you don’t have to choose between them but if so, I hope this info is helpful.
Jerusalem: if you’re into history and religion then this one is fantastic for you. However, it is a walking tour and Jerusalem is hilly. It wasn’t too bad with frequent stops and a lot in the shade but still be ready for that.
Caesarea: if you love the sea, Greek ruins, caves, and the Crusades/really old buildings then you will probably enjoy this one.
Dead Sea: King Herod’s old winter palace and a trip to the lowest point on earth (and the saltiest). This one was the hottest day trip but it was very worth it. Quite a bit of walking and up and down stairs in Masada and there isn’t a ton of shade to stand in either. But it had wonderful views and a lot of the original architecture. Dead Sea is salty and hot but you gotta get in at least once.

The part if Massada was good we stoppen thee times twice to eat and shop at very commercial places. That toon almost thee hours. Time to be at the dead sea including rushing to charge find locker run to beach get in the water etc. 1.5 hour. We left at 6.30 were back 19.15. The dead sea part was really not ok and not worth 360 euro for two adults and one child.

Thank you for sharing this report of your tour and raising the matter of its schedule. Indeed the schedule management of the tour is entirely up to the guide with matters that he knows how to handle. Time allocations at each location include lines, waiting as well time for group organization. You have not mentioned crowds and the heat. This has been the allocation generally over the years on this tour. Departing the Dead Sea between 16:00 or 16:30 max. Traffic and hotel dispersion on return as well as the 1.5-hour drive is a huge factor that you failed to mention that contributes to the length of the day.

The pick-up was a bit confusing, in the reservation they said it will be at the hotel reception but the guy only stayed outside. It was only by luck that that we went outside and asked. More than that, the bus was labeled with another company name, not Bein Harim.
What we did not like was the lack our organizational skills of our guide, Frank. He had to count us a lot of times in a row since the numbers were not matching. In generally he was not in the control of the group and this led to long waiting times until the entire group was together. Another thing that bothered us was his explanations about places we would see. He was usually starting ok but pretty soon he was starting to digress and his personal views about Israel were very biased, offensive and out of place. Telling us at the end of the trip that the driver was expecting tips and that we should write a good review on Trip Advisor so he (Frank) would get some more money was also something odd.
The fact that there was actually another group in the bus that took only the Dead See tour made us loose a lot of time since we had to do a detour and drop them off in the morning.
The lunch at the Qumran was mediocre.

Dear marcip03, Thanks for sharing this detailed report and review. The guide has posted an extensive report explaining the reason for the numerous times that he counted the tour participants (including after some outsider who fraudulently took a ticket at Masada and then disappeared!) It's an acquired skill, and essential for group cohesiveness. Yes, we do subcontract other buses, but they all have our logo window signs with the tour destination. We will certainly emphasize the issue regarding personal opinion and the need to be discreet but sincere. Regarding the request for gratuity, is also not ok and we will reiterate this too. Our logistic constraints since the resumption of operations after Covid closure of 2 years are being refreshed daily in order to make transport smooth. We apologize that this was time-consuming. Also since Covid, there are almost no functioning restaurants that cater to groups in this deserted region at the Dead Sea. There is overload there. It is defined commercially as a tourist center therefore it also sells cosmetic products, etc. Sincerely, Bein Harim team

We really enjoyed this tour. Pick up from our hotel was easy and our tour guide was personable and knowledgeable about the area. Being the end of July it was very hot - bring lots of water or bottles to refill as you go along. I learned a lot about the history of Masada and enjoyed floating in the Dead Sea.
