Truly beautiful sites with so much history
Istanbul old town is something quite different. Exotic, crowded, noisy and confronting at times, but we loved it! So much to see, Galata Tower, Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace , the Basilica Cisterns and so much more. Our favourite were the Basilica Cisterns…quite spectacular and highly recommend you do not miss this site.

    Do not miss this tour
What an amazing day out. Uz (sorry if I spelt that wrong) was our tour guide and he went above and beyond. A three hour tour turned Into six hours. Uz showed us all over this great city, showing us everything on the itinerary plus loads more, he even took us to get a great kebab from one of the most popular little kebab places near the Grand bazar. His knowledge and inthusiasm were infectious , he clearly loves this city. Our tour ended with Uz taking us back to our hotel through the winding streets of Istanbul to save us getting a cab. Like I said, an amazing day.

Worthwhile short tour to see how locals go about their daily lives
Glad I did this short tour as it gave a greater insight into life in Istanbul. What was of interest in particular was to see locals going about their daily lives. It gave me a different perspective than only seeing tourist destinations. The tunnel metro was also of interest, not speaking or reading Turkish I had walked past the bottom entry several times without understanding what it was. Erol the guide was good also and spoke good English and easy to understand. This tour is short but worthwhile and I would recommend it if you have seen all the historical sites

    Great tour
Our guide was very good and sent a WhatsApp message to say she would be a few minutes late due to roads being closed on Labour Day. She had boundless knowledge and was very informative. Pace was good and she stopped for us to take photos. Very good tour. Would recommend.

This was amazing! So informative and all the hidden passages I would never have found. Erol is a very knowledgeable and lovely guide - I enjoyed this so much. If you are coming to Istanbul you must do this!

The food is delicious — but just the beginning
Erol was the most amazing guide. The tour was advertised as been for small groups only, but we got lucky enough to be the only two on the tour. We started on the European side, where we wandered through the spice market and then ate börek at a small cafe. We then took the ferry to the Asian side, where we spent most of time. Wandering through Kadikoy we tried Turkish coffee, balli yogurt, pickled vegetables, menemen, kokoretto, lahmacun and katmer. Most of these were foods I wouldn’t have known to try, and all were delicious. By no means should you have breakfast before going on this tour! Often times the food was a jumping off point for learning about the history and culture of Istanbul and Türkiye. I can’t believe how much we learned in four and a half hours.

    FANTASTIC
This is an amazing experience that I can’t recommend enough. It was my first time doing a culinary walking tour and now I want to do one in every city I visit. Erol was fantastic, his knowledge of the city made this a complete experience, not only for the food but also the history, the colors and the magic of the city. We will come back to Istanbul and hopefully we’ll have Erol again to guide us again!

Blue mosque and Topkapi palace with Erol
We took a tour through the Blue Mosque and the Topkapi palace with the harem section. Our tour guide was Erol. From the beginning the tour was incredible because of the historical facts Erol provided. His knowledge made the tour highly interesting and gave us many many insights into the interconnections between the religions building and the ottoman dynasty. He would answer all questions, was friendly and forthcoming. We highly recommend Erols tour. It was an amazing start for us in Istanbul!

Blue Mosque and Topkapi palace + Harem tour. Great experience!
I met my guide on time at the location that was promised. He was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. I had Topkapi palace and the Blue Mosque tour on my booking. Despite this my guide explained to me many facts about the other sites as well. He took time to explain to me many facts about the Blue Mosque that I didn’t have idea about. There was no rush. He then took time to explain the history of each and every section of the Topkapi palace including the Harem section. Being a history buff, I did ask him a lot of questions and he answered them patiently. Would highly recommend

    Very Good
My boyfriend and i had a really nice solo tour with Erol. We startet at Taskim and ended at Galata Tower. He showed as typical and unknown places were we can have drinks/food. After our tour we instantly tried shalep and köfte😇 it was really good and we are thankful for those recommendations

Our tour was led by Tolga, a very engaging Turkish-Greek guide, this was the second food tour of our trip (the other having taken place in the daytime) and offered a nice contrast. We learned about the Beyoglu area of the city, finishing in Taksim, and particularly enjoyed experiencing food beyond the meaty kebabs that you associate most with Turkish fare and had on other experiences we booked. We learned how to drink raki, how Turkish coffee is made, and tried tantuni, lamb in a thin pastry along the lines of a Turkish enchilada. He also recommended a Netflix show about one of the historic hotels in the city, which we've since started watching.

Erol was an excellent guide to take us around the hidden eating spots in Istanbul. We got to east some delicious foods that we would have never found on our own and learnt a lot about the area and history as we went along.
We ate so much food and had a great time walking around the Beyoglu (Pera) neighborhood, would highly recommend booking a tour with Erol!

With just over 48 hours to spend as a solo traveler on my first visit to Istanbul, I wanted to find a way to really connect with this city, its culture and people as deeply and quickly as possible. A colleague recommended Culinary Backstreets, and I could not be happier that I followed her advice. I took the “Born on the Bosphorus” tour with the warm and extremely knowledgeable Dilek as my guide. A native of Istanbul, Dilek is an archaeologist and highly experienced guide who shared a wealth of information about Istanbul and Türkiye and local life and history and culture throughout the day. And the FOOD… so much wonderful food!

Starting with an amazing breakfast in the Beşiktaş neighborhood on the European side, I knew I was in for a day of incredibly delicious and interesting cuisine. Turkish breakfast is my new favorite thing, and we lingered over it, luxuriating in the flavors and textures and excellent conversation. After a few more stops for the best baklava and borek I’ve ever had, among other delights, we hopped the ferry across the Bosphorus to the Asian side of the city and the utterly charming neighborhood of Kuzguncuk for about 4 different lunches, ending the day with a visit to Üsküdar market for pickles and Turkish Delight (get the cranberry-pistachio, it’s out of this world!) You really need to pace yourself to fit in all the food, and the leisurely strolling around between food stops really helps!

I could go on and on about all the incredible sights and tastes of the day, but suffice it to say that the tour is well worth the money and time, especially if you want a deep dive into local culture, and to connect with people, places and dishes you otherwise might not have known to look for! Dilek is an excellent guide, and by the end of the tour I truly felt I had spent the day with a local friend, and absolutely fell in love with Istanbul. Great value and an experience I will never forget!!

My mom and I had a great tour with Erol! We started off with delicious mezes and raki at a great meyhane, before taking to the streets to try several more dishes. Come hungry--we had to ask for smaller portions at a few places to make sure we saved room for baklava. Erol was very knowledgable about Turkey and Istanbul, and he also introduced us to some of the more modern parts of the city. I try to do a food tour in every city I visit, and Erol was one of the best guides I've had. I highly recommend him for food tours or city tours.

Erol was an excellent guide and the tour was fantastic. We stopped by at least 7 places (possibly more, we lost count) and ate so many different foods! All the places were very much locals restaurants and not ones you'd find yourself. Highly recommend. Come hungry!

It was one of the few tours available at night after working hour. We booked it and hoped we could explore Istanbul little bit before our departure. It turned out to be one of the best tours in our experience. Tolga is very knowledgeable and friendly. His 25 years experience in tourism and his education background absolutely adds big difference to his guide. The food in the tour definitely tasted richer because of his guide on Turkey’s history and Greek myths. There is so much to learn. In the end of the tour, we started planning our trip coming back in 2023.

Really excellent experience. A fantastic way to understand more about the city, its culture, and how food plays such a big role in its daily life. We've eaten plenty of 'Turkish' food at restaurants in the UK, but the food on this tour was completely different to anything experienced back home. Lots of surprises throughout, and all of it delicious!

Special mention to our guide Erol who was welcoming, funny and above all extremely knowledgeable; had an answer at hand to any questions anyone was throwing at him!

This was a wonderful evening of tasting Turkish food with Tolga! We couldn't have asked for a better guide. He introduced us to delicious Turkish food and drinks as well as showing us areas of the city we likely would never have seen. He also told us the historical background of the areas we visited. The food was absolutely wonderful. I lost track of how many different places we went to and the food we ate. Do not eat before you go! You will have more than enough food to fill you up twice. We highly recommend this tour. It's a great introduction to the food of Turkey and also a great way to see some of the city. If you are on the fence about doing this, just book! You won't regret it. Thank you Tolga!
