- HollyandDaron0 contributionsComprehensive visit to the Asian side of Istanbul and enthusiastic tour guide! This tour was a fantastic introduction to the Asian side of Istanbul. As tourists, navigating an unfamiliar environment can be overwhelming, but this experience completely took the stress out of exploring. I loved that we didn’t have to worry about directions or logistics—everything was seamlessly taken care of. Tuncer picked us up directly from our hotel, and his communication throughout the entire process was excellent. Tuncer was incredibly kind and patient, offering insightful explanations on topics we weren’t as familiar with. My boyfriend and I are Armenian and Jewish, and Tuncer not only showed genuine interest in our backgrounds but went above and beyond by personalizing the tour to incorporate aspects of both our cultures. This thoughtful touch made us feel truly seen, valued, and acknowledged. His easygoing, relatable nature made the entire experience so much fun. He was funny, open-minded, full of energy, and always made sure we were comfortable and enjoying ourselves. On top of that, he eagerly offered to be our personal photographer whenever there was a chance for a great shot, which made the tour even more memorable. We couldn’t have asked for a better guide and would highly recommend Tuncer to anyone looking for a meaningful and personalized experience in Istanbul!Written 22 October 2024
- Journey625644683880 contributionsWorth a visitAlthough the tickets are q bit expensive, we found the aquarium interesting and a good way to spend a few hours. The 3D helicopter flip was interesting if you are new to Istanbul, but made us all feel a little queasy. The Mirror maze is very amateurish and not worth paying extra for. There are a large variety of fish and sea mammals, and younger kids will love it.Written 1 October 2024
- Likop80 contributionsGood but a bit tough on a hot and humid day.Tuncer is energetic, knowledgeable, and articulate. This was a trip that would have been difficult logistically for us to pull off on our own. The only drawback was that it was a walking tour on a hot and humid day, and we should have taken more breaks to pace ourselves. One of us was worn out and we ended up cutting short the trip by more than an hour.Written 15 September 2024
- agnieszkag3690 contributionsUnforgettable journeyMy guide on the Asian side of Istanbul: Uskudar and Kadikoy full day tour was a very nice man called Tuncer. It was an unforgettable journey through historic times to the present day. The guide has a wealth of historical knowledge and is able to convey it well and get the other person interested. You can see that he puts his heart and soul into his work and enjoys it. This makes it an unforgettable experience for the tourists who travel with him. And I must add that I was very lucky to have the guide all to myself, as I was the only one who had booked a tour for that day. Another company might have cancelled or tried to move me to another day, but not Istanbul Walks and not my guide. And I am very grateful for that. It was a very unforgettable day indeed.Written 30 August 2024

Aquariums are big and animals look like they are living well. The penguins were great, but I don`t think they belong there. They should have more space.Written 21 August 2024
- mapmydestination0 contributionsA Day of Bosphorus Beauty and Cultural DelightsSet on this full-day adventure in Istanbul was truly breathtaking! The boat ride along the Bosphorus Strait offered stunning views of majestic bridges, palaces, and mosques. The guided tour of Dolmabahçe Palace was fascinating, and exploring the Spice Bazaar was a sensory delight with its vibrant colors and enticing scents. The highlight was undoubtedly the delicious 3-course meal enjoyed by the beautiful shoreline. This tour is a must-do for anyone visiting Istanbul, offering a perfect blend of sightseeing and cultural experiences.Written 12 April 2024

- Honey B0 contributionsBadStaff are rude and not welcoming, most of the screens with explanations were not working, part of the aquarium was under maintenence without pre notification, aquarium glass were not clean from inside. It was foggy in some areas, tickets were given to us at the entrance so we were not able to access the Egyptian museum which was paid already until we spoke to the customer services. Did not like the experience in general.Written 5 January 2024

- omar a0 contributionsIstanbul AquariumThe aquarium, which is one of the largest in Europe, boasts a helpful front desk that provides excellent assistance. It houses a diverse range of creatures from both the Black Sea and the Mediterranean Sea. Although there was no tour guide available or any shows available, we enjoyed the impressive 3D Istanbul tour. However, the shopping mall was considered to be overpriced.Written 6 August 2023

The Sema Ceremony is a spiritual journey of Dervishes whirling for Devine love. The Hodjapasha cultural center was transformed from a large 15 th century Turkish Bath. The music is mesmerizing and haunting and the dances are almost hypnotic . Love the performance but was disappointed it was short and the dances were not more varied . But all in all we were so glad we visited and took a part in a beautiful performance .

Nice show very spiritual. Lovely Koranic recitation. The spinning dervish is mesmerising. The training required to move like that and not get dizzy is impressive.
Probably not the best show for younger children.

I was a little bit hesitant at first reading other reviews and some people reporting they felt it was staged and fake. I however am so happy I did not listen to those reviews. The whole event was very organized, the rituals were well explained, and overall it was a very spiritual experience. I enjoy reading Rumi and this was an extremely meaningful experience for me.

It is both a happy and sad story to behold such great pageant and ceremony in a country that is not the birthplace of the famous
Persian poet and mystic. The Sufi ceremony symbolizes stages on the path to accessing God and contains religious elements and themes. The poet, Rumi or Moe'laanaa, is highly regarded among Iranians who venerate the poet as an other-worldly sophisticated guru who knew all there was to know about love and life.
In a sense, the Dervishes dance and perform as a ritual to remember the poet/founder of this semi-cult. There are several books in many languages about the Dervishes and about the founder; Sufi Philosopher Mevlâna or Rumî.

The dance lasted for about one-half hour and I felt it was well done. Hodjapasha is located in the Sultanahmet District and the audience seemed to be primarily tourists. Nevertheless, no photos or filming was allowed and the dance seemed respectful and true to its spiritual basis.

I was so disappointed to find out that I was charged almost double by trip advisor/viator compared to buying there. A real RIP off which left a bad taste for me as I am on tight budget. The show itself was good. More spiritual than entertaining.

I was looking forward to this show that took place at the Hodjapasha Cultural Center in the Sultanahment District. You can get discounted ticket prices from the venue if you purchase the Rhythm of the Dance Show together with this show. They are both at the Hodjapasha Cultural Center. The theater is small and holds approximately 200 seats arranged in a semicircle of about four rows. In the waiting area outside the theater, there are displays along the wall that has detailed information about Sufism, dervishes, and Sufi music and dance. There is also a little stand where you can purchase items related to Sufism and the show. The whole setup is friendly and welcoming. The show itself lasted for about an hour. The music is beautiful, however the Dervish show started very slow and went on with dancers greeting each other that seemed to go forever. The rest of the show was just Dervishes whirling and not much else. If you are looking for a spiritual experience, this show may be for you. But if you are looking for entertainment, I suggest the Rhythm of the Dance. If you are not familiar with the location of Hodjapasha, try to arrive early and don't rely on Google maps for direction. It will take you all over the place. If you arrive too early you can go around in the Sultanahment district where you will have no problem passing the time. Enjoy

One of the highlights of my trip to Istanbul. This was more than attending a "show" it was like being allowed inside a private ritual.

i have seen a mevlani sema 3 times, and while this is much more 'touristy' it still has the surreal, spiritual essence of the ceremony. now there are exhibits and information about the dervish order in the entrance room, free drinks and a small gift shop in the old bath house at hodjipasha, and in the streets round about there are lots of restaurants and cafes, and even the odd bar if you want refreshment before or after. the ceremony itself goes on for an hour, you can come in or leave while just the musicians are playing, but once the whirling starts you cant enter as it will be so distracting to the dervishes in such a small space. you are not allowed to take photos, nor must you clap, so this is not your average tourist snapfest. it is quite a serious affair, and im not sure what some members of the audience expected, but 3 people walked out, and several more were just sitting looking at their phones, sleeping or just so obviously bored. i find it beautiful, entrancing and i love ritual, but if you find the thought of 5 men spinning in a circle in a trance, making amazing patterns and following the eternal dull as ditch water, or you are only interested in taking selfies, i suggest you dont waste your money. but if you, like me, love religious buildings, rituals and different cultures (whether you are religious yourself. im an athiest, but that does not stop me from spirituality inside), then you must see this. it is wonderful, and worth every penny! dont miss it.

You're not allowed to use camera or phone during the sufi whirling dervesh performance but after the break, whey they present local / tribal dances, that you can capture.
