About
Phuket Elephant Sanctuary is the first and only ethical elephant sanctuary in Phuket where elephants roam around, bathe and sozialize freely across 30 acres of lush, tropical land bordering the Khao Phra Thaeo National Park in North East Phuket. We buy all rescued elephants to ensure that Phuket Elephant Sanctuary is their final home, and we offer professional veterinary care for old and injured elephants. By visiting us, you are supporting a sustainable, ethical and compassionate approach to elephant tourism where elephants have the freedom to live naturally. Stop: 3 hours - Admission included
A morning with the elephants is an eye-opening and inspiring experience. Following a scenic drive along a local village you will arrive at Phuket Elephant Sanctuary, a picturesque jungle dotted with ponds, wide open fields and hillsides for the elephants to roam around. Your visit starts at our Tree Top Lounge, where we will show you a presentation and educational video to prepare you for your encounter with the elephants, and to help you understand why they need to be protected. Next up, the elephants are fed. While they enjoy their baskets of bananas, pineapples and cucumbers, you have a chance to learn from our guides about the background of each elephant. Once the elephants are fed, we follow them down into the jungle. By keeping a safe distance and watching them from our Observation Salas, the elephants have the freedom to express their natural behavior, from bathing and playing in our pond to socializing with each other. The program ends with a delicious Thai vegetarian meal.

The only real ethical elephant camp in Phuket - 5 stars
Nov 2021
I can only recommend going to Phuket Elephant Sanctuary, it is such an amazing place and a great experience. They really do everything to protect the elephants and let them live in a natural way. The tour itself however still brings you very close to these amazing animals without disturbing them in their everyday life. The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. It is really worth the money, which is used to take care of the elephants (food, medicine) and hopefully safe some more in the near future. So please people come here and do something good and skip all the captive elephant stuff, which is only harmful for the animals.
On a side note: We did the morning tour, which included some great breakfast, snacks and lunch. So not only the elephants are being treated very well, the visitors as well :)

Beautiful sanctuary where elephants are humanely rescued/living. Fun day feeding elephants & we definitely recommend!
Perfect morning with the elephants. We got checked in then headed to the Booktree Library for a coffee - hazelnut latte was amazing and the shop itself is super cute. Once taken to the sanctuary, we started with light snacks/coffee/tea then we got to feed a couple of the elephants and walk around to see them in their natural habitat. We were provided socks and rain boots as it’s muddy - I suggest wearing pants since there’s a lot of dirt/grass/branches you’re walking through. After, you are provided lunch - noodles, curry, fries, salad, and veggies.

Overall, beautiful day supporting the elephant rescue. Highly recommend this over any of the other elephant options that are less humane.

Amazing experience
Nov 2021 • Couples
The whole morning was amazing! We met the guides and had breakfast and we’re then split into smaller groups to assist with feeding some of the elephants breakfast. Our guides explained that all the elephants had been saved from either logging or from trekking/shows and some had injuries from these times. We then we’re able to explore the jungle with our guide and we’re introduced to each elephant from afar. Our guide Jeffy was brilliant! He knew each elephant and their story and when they had arrived and had a wealth of knowledge and could answer all our questions! We then had a lovely lunch and finished at 1pm!
I would recommend this to anyone who wants to see elephants but in a way that does not stop them from enjoying their day naturally. We originally looked at sanctuaries which involved bathing but quickly learnt that this is not natural for the elephant, and are so happy that we chose Phuket Elephant Sanctuary.

Me and my partner visit Phuket Elephant Sanctuary at the beginning of November 2021 for an afternoon with the Elephants. We choose to drive to the Sanctuary, how ever they can pick up from your hotel. We started in a tree type observatory where we where welcome with very friendly staff who looked after us and made us feel very welcome. They provided main snacks and drinks opinions. We had a 10 minute presentation about the sanctuary and how they look after all 12 Elephants and help them after being abused by work camps and tourist attractions. After the presentation we were allowed to walk amongst the elephants with our amazing tour guide Jeffy. The elephant now live in their natural environment which is attached to the in national park. After the tour we headed back to the observatory where we hand fed some of the elephants. We finished the day with an amazing prepared dinner which was vegetarian/vegan. We also were given then choice of a free t-shirt or bag. They had a cute gifts shop which all proceeds go back in to the sanctuary. The transportation was provided back to the office where we drove back to our hotel but they will also provide returns to your hotel. I couldn't recommend this place enough it was truly a magical experience. I will definitely be back to support this amazing place. Thank you to all the staff and the amazing work you are doing.

We visited the sanctuary in late September as the COVID restrictions which were being lifted slowly. We had a lovely tour around and the guide explained how all the elephants came to be there (which is heart breaking)
It is amazing to actually find a place where rescued elephants are allowed to live out there lives not being forced still to carry people on rides.

Enjoyed a fantastic day with the elephants. Our tour guide Javi was highly knowledgeable and provided personal details of each elephant. The feeding experience was magical. Highly recommend this beautiful place for the most ethical and respectful way to meet these majestic animals. Any visit goes a long way to making a better life for the Elephants and bring more to this safe Haven!

A Wonderful, Ethical Experience
Sep 2021
Visited by myself at the end of September 2021 as a part of the Phuket Sandbox. Due to COVID reducing the amount of visitors, I was the only person on the morning tour. That didn't stop any of the staff from giving it their all and providing me with a great and educational experience. I had been looking for an elephant experience on the island that didn't harm the elephants, and I am glad that I found the Phuket Elephant Sanctuary. You can really tell that they love the elephants that have been rescued and found their way to the Sanctuary. Definitely recommend to anyone on the island who is looking to have a great and ethical time!

An extraordinary experience
Sep 2021 • Solo
I've been waiting to do this for three years. I was able to visit in September and it was worth waiting for. The entire experience was fantastic. From the pick up at their office and drive to the sanctuary, the breakfast buffet and short documentary briefing to the feeding of the elephants and walk through the canopy and eventually the jungle with the elephants. I learned so much--had a terrific guide named Aoum. The day wrapped up with a delicious lunch. I'm excited to go back and plan to register for a volunteer week next year.

Best experience we've ever had!
Aug 2021
Me and my partner visited Phuket Elephant Sanctuary at the beginning of August 2021 for a morning with the elephants. They picked us up from our hotel in Patong and took us to the sanctuary. We started up at the tree house observatory where we were welcomed by the friendliest staff who looked after us and made us feel very welcome. There were drinks and breakfast options waiting for us as we arrived which was lovely. We then had a 5 minute presentation all about the sanctuary and how they look after the old, sick and abused elephants and return them into the wild. After, we were allowed to feed two of the elephants which was the most wonderful experience seeing them so unclose. We then had a guided tour of the 30 acres where we saw all of the elephants in their natural habitat roaming freely around having a blast. It was a magical experience! After our tour was finished we went back up into the treehouse observatory where lunch was served. It was a vegetarian/vegan Thai buffet and it was soooo delicious. Finally we were dropped back off at our hotel after a perfect morning with the elephant! I couldn't recommend this place enough!!! The whole experience is something I will never forget. Thank you to all the staff and the elephants for the best time. This sanctuary is the only ethical elephant sanctuary in Thailand, were the elephants are allowed to roam and be free. Please visit if you are ever in Phuket, you won't regret it.

A great cause to help these gentle giants
We came here as part of the Phuket Sandbox. We were happy to see they were open during COVID-19 pandemic. They have great guides that know so much about the elephants and the surrounding jungle. It is so sad to know how these rescued elephants were tortured in the logging and show trades. It is great to see how a few people took a stand and set up a large plot of land to rescue these beautiful elephants. There are still signs of the torture they endured. It is great to see them in elephant retirement and enjoying their lives at their beautiful home. It is a bit pricey, but at least you know the funds are going to a great cause.

Dear travelguy21776, Thank you so much for supporting our project through your visit, and for sharing your experience with other travellers. We appreciate your positive feedback with regards to our knowledgeable guides. Jeffy, Tik, Nana, Aoum and Paeng have been with us for a long time and are a big part of what makes a visit to PES so special, apart from the elephants of course! The income from your visit allows us to buy food & medicine for the 12 rescued elephants living with us, as well as to rescue more elephants in the not too distant future, we hope. Thank you once again and best wishes from all of us here at PES.
