    Nang Loeng Market
    Stop: 4 hours
The tour starts next to Siam Pier at 10:30am where you'll greet your guide and hop on board one of the klong boats for an exciting ride down along the canals. Along the way, you'll get an idea of life next to the waterways and hear stories of Bangkok from your guide.  After you've disembarked, it's right down to business with a bowl of old-style Hokkien noodles from a joint that's been knocking them out for decades. As you slurp the thick odon noodles smothered in rich beef or pork stew you'll hear stories of their origins and why they are rarely found today. Afterwards, your guide will lead you down through the old streets stopping en route to try the best banana fritters in town cooked up in a local home-style kitchen factory.  Dive into one of Bangkok's oldest markets which has been selling dishes to locals since 1899. Here, you'll guide will take you to the best spots where you'll delve into another dozen dishes like crispy catfish salads, fresh spring rolls with cured sausage and pickles, freshwater fish steamed curry topped with coconut cream and a dozen more mouth-watering dishes. It's not all feasting though. Between courses, your guide will lead you on a tour of the area where you can take in local life in this peaceful part of Bangkok. See the old wooden remnants of the city's oldest silent cinema, discover why this was once the entertainment district and learn about how and where Thai desserts are made.  Say goodbye to your fellow guests at the market. Your guide will help direct you back to your hotel or find transport for you should you wish. You'll leave with a deeper understanding of Thai cuisine and culture, a full belly of delicious food and memories of an old area of Bangkok that few outsiders visit.

Jul 2020
I spent ages looking for a good food tour for my boyfriend's birthday (he's a real foodie, so this wasn't an easy task) and I ended up going with this tour after seeing the itinerary and positive reviews. We had our tour yesterday and I'm so glad that we picked this one!

Our tour started with a short boat ride down to the market and ended with us sampling some local fruits and desserts. Our guide, Nutth, was very knowledgeable and had an obvious passion for Thai food and it's prominent role in Thai culture, which made the experience even more enjoyable. We sampled a variety of authentic dishes from places we would never have discovered on our own. They were also able to accommodate my dietary requirements easily, which was a relief.

This was such a great tour and I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for an insight into authentic Thai cuisine (and, as other reviews have mentioned, make sure you arrive hungry!).

just WOW!
Feb 2020
This was one of the best experiences of our whole holiday.

However, if you do not have time to revisit all the food vendors, we recommend to do the food tour at the end of your holiday, because you won't have such delicious food for the rest of your stay! ;)

Big props to our two guides who just did the best job of telling interesting things about the food and showing interest in their clients.

Thanks a lot. We will remember this tour for a long time.

Good Food, Great Guide
Mar 2020
Having been in both the food and the tourism biz, I have some often unreasonable standards and expectations, and I'll say that this experience met about 9/10 of them. The guide was certainly the highlight--actually, *guides* as both Tom and Fon shared duties ushering us around, chatting, making sure everything everything felt seamless enough so that we could focus on the food and our surroundings, answer a lot of my questions, etc. Things were somewhat off the beaten path but not in a way that seemed invasive, as I've experienced in some tours. The boat portion of the tour actually solidified this as my choice. Yes, the canals are a bit gritty, but it really added to the experience and the unique charms of Bangkok that I hadn't encountered before in my 6 or so visits.
The food itself? The variety itself was astounding without leaving us painfully full. It hit upon a lot of the cultural influences that make up Bangkok's diverse food landscape, and the quality was always exceptional. My 12 twelve year old, spice-averse niece was able to eat more than her fill, but heat was certainly available on request--which was quite impressive to me, and speaks to the diversity of Bangkok's food, as well as the mindfulness of our hosts! My only thoughts for any possible improvement? Some of us come looking for specific dishes, or already have a basic (and I mean BASIC) knowledge of what's available here, so having a tour option for a deeper dive or some recommendations handy, would be indispensable for us on the food-geek end of the spectrum. But the experience itself: 5 stars, no question.

Brilliant food tour
We tried 20+ different foods over the course of this tour, many of which we would never have tried or come across if it wasn't for the tour. There was a good variety of foods and it was all very tasty.

We also ventured into parts of the city that we wouldn't of seen otherwise, which gave more of an insight into the locals way of living.

Our tour guides, Tom and fit, were great. They were friendly, knowledgable and spoke great Engilsh.

We did the morning tour and would definitely recommend not having any breakfast and turning up hungry to the tour. There is lots of food to be eaten!

disappointing
Feb 2020 • Friends
tom as a guide was the best of the tour. It was only two hours, i expected more for 2000bath. 18 different things, not dishes. so if you get an apple a banana and guava on the same plate you already have 3 of 18. the good thing on the tour is that you get the thai meals that you probably never will order or see. I think the prize is too high for such cheap food.

Hi Kuntoto, Thank you for leaving us a review and we're sorry to hear that you found the experience disappointing. As you can see from the other reviews, it's not a usual occurrence. We take all negative feedback seriously as we never like our guests to leave unsatisfied and even one negative review is severely damaging to our small business, so we did a thorough investigation. - The tour is around 1800 THB (could be slightly above or below depending on the exchange rate), not 2000 THB as you have mentioned. - The tour was four hours - it started at 10.30am and finished at 2.30pm. - Our tours are limited to 8 guests, though I believe there were 3 on your tour - we also typically have 1 highly trained food guide plus a food guide assistant who organises logistics along the way. - We would never and will never give guests an apple and banana at our fruit tasting. You tried a Thai rose apple which other than the name bears no resemble in taste or shape to a European apple and you will have tried deep-fried Thai-style banana. We choose the exotic fruits depending on the season and they are usually things like mangosteens, longans, rose apples and snake fruit. - We don't claim to have 18 dishes - our website states that this is a 14-15 taster menu. We often go well above this number. This is what you tried on the tour: 1) Grilled sticky rice with taro paste 2) Two different types of Thai deep-fried banana 3) Traditional roasted duck 4) Traditional roasted pork 5) Crispy mungbean crepes with Thai salad 6) Stir fried radish cake 7) Stir fried red curry with crispy pork and green beans 8) Khanom buang Thai crepe with traditional style 9) Khao soi chicken noodle curry 10) Fried rice with shrimp paste and sour mango salad 11) Green coconut curry with chicken and coconut shoot 12) Red coconut curry with tamarind and morning glory 13) Fermented rice noodles with sweet peanut curry 14) Mungbean coated in sweet egg yolk 15) Mixed exotic fruits Thai style with chilli sugar 16) Sweet crispy noodles with tamarind sauce and kaffir lime 17) Steamed coconut pudding in ceramic cups 18) Coconut custard in banana leaves Plus the tour includes all local drinks, bottled water and all transport costs. Other comparable tour companies have a much smaller menu and usually have 12+ guests for a similar price. We try to provide a more intimate experience so that you can ask questions to the guides and visit spots that would be impossible with larger guest numbers. We're sorry that this wasn't enough for you though and will continue to look into how we can improve the experience in the future. We hope you have a fantastic time on the rest of your Thai adventure. Best, Luke

We have been to Thailand and Bangkok many times and have done several food tours but this one was the best we have ever done. We were taken to parts of the city we have never previously visited and introduced to an endless variety of local food, much of which we have never before had the opportunity to try. Our guide Tom was extremely knowledgeable, speaking very good English. He really understood the different foods and how they were made which added to the enjoyment. We were warned to come hungry and that is excellent advice. The combination of using local transport, water taxi and bus followed by gentle walking through interesting streets and markets added to the experience, as did the other 6 people on the tour who were all very friendly and easy to get on with. We will certainly look to do another tour with this company next time we come to Bangkok.

This was a great tour and we were able to try so many different foods that we would have never tried on our own! Our tour guides were great as well! We would definitely recommend this tour to anyone who enjoys good food but just doesn't know where to start. In addition to the food, it was really interesting just wandering through the back streets that we never knew existed.
