A wonderful trip through Zimbabwe and Botswana!
We did a 9 day trip of Victoria falls, Chobe National Park, Makgadikgadi salt pans and Okavango delta with cuckoo safaris. We had a fantastic trip! They were very responsive from the start of the planning phase till the end of our trip. The guides and drivers were friendly and professional. All the arrangements were great. We took road transport between places and the transport vehicles were well maintained and comfortable. The accommodations at Victoria falls, Chobe and planet Baobab were excellent. They offer reasonable pricing and great service. They partner with sister companies in Botswana and that worked without any hiccups. I would highly recommend Cuckoo safaris for anyone looking for a great and stress free trip through Zimbabwe and Botswana!

          Luke warm activity
This is not a village tour, you meet one family slightly out of town. What is interesting is that it seems this is the only family being visited which is evident by looking at the pictures on the activity and traveller's activities. They live on a piece of land with a few rondavels, the visit seems a bit staged where the homestead doesnt really "looked lived in" especially the kitchen. You pay for the activity, you provide the family with a token of appreciation, you are taken to a school and provide a donation there as well. All in all it is an expensive activity when you combine donations and activity fee. The highlight is the family is welcoming, the lady talks about how a typical day is spent and some cultural traditions which is interesting.

          Long day but saw lots
Professionally run tour of the Chobe River and game drive in Chobe Park. Long dive with 1 hr drive each to the Botswana border for the two tours. All guides excellent. All the transfers were expeditiously handled and there is lunch at a 4 star hotel between the tours. Think the boat tour should be shortened to 2 hrs as 3 hrs seemed too long. Had done a safari in Kruger earlier in our trip but did see some new animals..crocodiles, rhinos, and Cape buffalos. Saw many elephants, monkeys, giraffes, and bushbacks.

          Tours with Cuckoo Safaris
We booked a tour with Cuckoo Safaris, visiting the falls, Hwange, and Chobe. I highly recommend Cuckoo Safaris for their excellent service. I was primarily in contact with Tatenda, who was very accessible and extremely helpful. The tours were well-organized and executed flawlessly. In summary, I strongly endorse Cuckoo Safaris.

This is a must do safari!
We did the 9-Day Victoria Falls, Chobe Safari, Makgadikgadi Pans National Park and Okavango Delta tour. Simon was our guide and was absolutely amazing. Over the course of the 9 days, we saw a TON of elephants, hippos, buffalos, baboons and impala. We saw several lions, vervet monkeys (only at Vic Falls), zebras, warthogs, crocs, giraffes, meerkats. We saw only a few or one rhinos (5), leopard (1), hyenas (2), jackals (5), ostriches (7) and wild dog (1). Here is what we saw each day: Day 1 - Fly into Victoria Falls Airport in Zimbabwe; River cruise - hippos, croc, bushbuck, baboons Day 2 - am Victoria Falls tour - vervet monkeys; pm private reserve game drive - black rhinos, elephants, giraffes, zebras, kudu, warthogs, buffalos Day 3 - Chobe game drive - elephants, leopard, hippos, kudu, croc, hyena, lions, water buck Day 4 - am Chobe game drive - lions, buffalos; pm game drive at Elephant Sands - elephants, ostriches, buffalos, spring hare, eland Day 5 - travel to Planet Baobab, evening bush walk Day 6 - meerkats and salt pans, then helicopter ride seeing elephants, zebras, hippos, wildebeasts Day 7 - dugout canoe ride with bush walk - hippos and crocs Day 8 - Morebi Game Reserve game drive - lions, warthogs, giraffes, elephants, wild dog, hyena, jackal, zebras, red lechwe, tsessabee, steenbock. Day 9 - Fly out of Maun airport in Botswana Zimbabwe just started their own currency, so USD is largely the primary currency. Botswana uses the local Pula. The early mornings in June were cold (40s F) since it is their winter and we often had to drive 1-2 hours in an outdoor safari vehicle when it was cold, so make sure to bring layers as it warms up usually during the day. The tour guides will also have something for you to put over your clothing (ex. poncho) to help with the cold. Americans don't need a visa for Zimbabwe and Botswana in advance. Zimbabwe requires a visa be obtained when you land at their airport and they require cash, so recommend having USD available. It was around $30 or $40USD. The Cuckoo guide picks you up at the airport and they largely try to have as close to a private tour as possible. We were a family of 4 and when cuckoo contracts with local tour companies, it was often just us or perhaps a couple more people, so it was a very personalized tour. We were not with a big group. Simon was accessible at all times and did a great job making sure all of our needs were met. My adult kids said this was the best vacation we have ever taken. I would HIGHLY recommend Cuckoo tours.

          Awesome day in Chobe
Pick up was on time & Simon was an absolute gentleman. He made sure we had everything we needed & let us know what to expect for the day. Once through immigration (Simon helping us) we were met on the Botswana side & helped through immigration swiftly & driven straight to Chobe. Our driver Veegro (terrible at spelling) was top notch. We saw heaps: Lion, lioness with her cubs, giraffe, Buffalo, elephants (100’s), hippo, warthog, zebra, kudu, impala, waterbuck, baboons, etc. Then onto the boat & that was also brilliant. Best game visit to a park in many years & I've done quite a few over the years. Veegro was awesome, funny & very knowledgeable.

          Bravo Goes To Cuckoo Safaris!!
This was our 1st visit to Zimbabwe. We arrived Victoria Falls by Rovos Rail from Cape Town and Pretoria. We had our first fantastic Safari experiences in Hwange Nat'l Park, as part of our Rovos Rail excursion. We were excited to continue the safari experiences with the safaris that we had booked through Cuckoo Safaris. The 1 day Chobe river cruise/ safari-game drive and half day safari-game drive in Zambezi Nat'l Park did not disappoint. We saw an AMAZING amount animals, birds, and reptiles in their natural habitat. The guides, Figo and Mtabisi, both with PUKU Safaris, were timely, knowledgeable, professional, kind, and personable. The morning cruise on the River is a must for any visitor. Our to and from Botswana Driver Manda was timely, professional, kind, and humorous as well. His assistance and help getting through the border and into Botswana was greatly appreciated. Got to give a BIG Shout Out to and for Tatenda Tarzan our Cuckoo booking agent. He was soooo helpful and so patient as we planned and booked our safaris/game drives. We had hoped to meet Tatenda in V.F. and THANK him personally, but unfortunately that didn't happen. We would certainly book through Cuckoo Safaris again. Caution; I had problems in Zimbabwe with older USD currency notes being refused for purchases and tips. The older notes, without color, are seen by the locals as being "No Good". Be sure to take newer USD currency notes.

Tatenda and his team were beyond amazing. They were extremely responsive, organised the best experiences for me based on my needs and what I wanted to see across Zimbabwe, Zambia and Botswana, and ensured my safety and comfort at all times. No matter what time of day, they were available to answer my questions and make sure I fully enjoyed my trip. I would also like to thank Martha from Zambia, Prudence from Zimbabwe and Figo from Botswana for giving me an incredible experience! Strongly recommend booking with Cuckoo Safaris... ASAP!

          Best trip ever!
My driver, Manda, was waiting as soon as I stepped off the plane & the adventure began! Light snacks on the Zambezi River to see warthogs, crocodiles, hippos, exotic birds, an amazing sunset & to be on a river that connects 4 countries was incredible! The next morning after breakfast, we were off to see Mosi oa Tunya (The Falls). We saw the Zambia & Zimbabwean side. Our tour guides Martha & Prudence walked us through the rainforest, we saw gorges, baboons, beautiful trees & the sound of the falls was amazing! There were rainbows & incredible photo-ops. We had lunch at Lookout Cafe, what a beautiful restaurant with delicious food & top notch service. We took a helicopter ride over the falls, which was breathtaking. We also made a quick stop at Big Tree. The next day was Chobe, Botswana. We started with a boat ride on the river. Our tour guide was so knowledgeable about the animals! I learned a lot. After a fabulous buffet, at an all you can eat lunch, we were off to the land safari. Our guide, Mr.O, got us very close to the animals (which is what we wanted). What an extraordinary day! The next day we got to sleep in a little. Pick up time was 10am. We stopped at a local store to buy food & school supplies for the visit to the cultural village. It wasn’t mandatory, but I love to help people. The village chief & his wife were so hospitable & thankful for the items. The chief gave us an in-depth tour & explained how life works. My highlight was visiting the school they opened & meeting the lovely teachers & adorable children. After the village tour, we stopped in town for lunch, coffee & shopping. We then went to the hotel to relax a little & at 7pm we were off to Boma to have fun, dance, eat, play the drums & just enjoy! The next morning was time to say goodbye to beautiful Africa, but we enjoyed every minute. Believe it or not, I left out some details. There was so much to see & do! The only thing I would change would be to upgrade my room at the hotel. But the staff was so welcoming & helpful & the grounds were tropical & well maintained. If you can’t tell yet, you should book this trip!

The waterfall and the views are beautiful we enjoyed the views and touched the wonder of the world and even took a shower! We were on an excursion on 20 March. The guide on the Zambian side, Stephen, didn't tell us anything, but he wouldn't let us go without a tip. But for what? The guide on the Zimbabwean side McDonell told us interesting things. Before entering the park, he gave us raincoats and told us we would return them after the tour. But after the tour he told it was a rental and demanded money from us for the raincoats. There are 4 people in our group and no one heard us being told that there was a charge for raincoats. It's not honest.
I think that at this ticket price, raincoats should be provided free of charge and the toilet should be clean and free of charge!

Hi Vino Thank you for your review. We apologize for the attitude portrayed by the guide in Zambia as we have dealt with the issue. We are sorry if our guide didn't inform you on renting the raincoats, as you can check on our exclusions for clients to bring their own raincoats for hygiene purposes since these rented raincoats are used with many tourist, just to clarify on the raincoats and park fees, park fees are a government taxis, raincoats are owned by the community people just to support local, as this is optional. Each raincoat goes for 3 dollars. Concerning the toilets, as they is congestion in the falls for the tourist considering the time you went in. The toilets on the Zimbabwean side is free and on the Zambian side its 0,50cents.

While you technically don't need a guide to take you around the Falls, I think somebody as knowledgeable and professional as Simon adds so much to the experience. He not only shows you the way around and points you to the best viewing angles, but explain the history and other facts about the Falls, Zimbabwe and Africa in general. This is particularly valuable if you are starting your visit to Africa at Victoria Falls. One minor downside is that perhaps you'd spend a little more time in the park if you were by yourself. Given that you get picked up and dropped off at your hotel, the cost of the tour is not that different than taking a taxi both ways.

Have only been able to give it 3 stars as we were only able to do half the tour. Sadly the most horrendous storm and rain meant we only did the Zimbabwe side which we have to say was stunning. We were able to do the Zambia side the next day on our own which again was amazing and we are so pleased we had the time to do it. The tour guide we had picked us up on time was very knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. Be warned the weather can be very changeable without warning in December.

The falls from th Zimbabwe side was magnificent and the hike was extremely pleasant. I would recommend this tour to anyone with no reservatio and Prudence our guide deserve the highest praise.

If you are visiting Victoria Falls, I highly recommend taking this tour, as you will see it from both sides (Zimbabwe and Zambia). The views are amazing and they are slightly different deoending on the side you're on. The guides, Prudence and Martha, were lovely. We were in good hands! Crossing the border was also very easy (just make sure you get a double or multiple entry visa). Highly recommend it!

Simon was friendly, patient and knowledgeable with our many questions about the Falls, wildlife and the country. The Zimbabwean side of the Falls was wetter and more impressive than the Zambian side, I thought. Simon guided us to all the lookout points and photo ops. Ask for him by name!

Prudence and Martha were great guides-very patient and knowledgeable about history, plants, etc. Lots of walking involved. Bottled water and raincoats were provided free of charge. Park fees could be paid with credit card or cash. Be prepared for locals trying to sell their handmade wares- especially if you walk on the bridge between Zambia and Zimbabwe-you may want to stay in the car to avoid them.

Fantastic service. Simon, the guide on the Zimbabwe side in particular was a wealth of information and made everyone feel at home and informed right from the start. Crossing the boarder alone could involve quit a bit of walking and complications but the guides on this tour made it seamless and drove you across the bridge saving time and energy making the walk through the border area on its own. Well worth the tour if you want to be sure to see the falls from both sides (which do have significantly different views).

Pick up at hotel was on time and quick drive to the park entrance. Prudence our guide on the Zimbabwe side provided our raincoats which were essential. Prudence was really good and friendly. Then she escorted us to the border and we went across to Zambia and Martha took us to the Zambia park entrance. It was $50 at the Zimbabwe entrance to VF and a further $20 at the Zambia park entrance. This is additional to the cost of the tour guide. Martha provided the raincoats and she was friendly and very knowledgeable. The Zimbabwe side was very misty with many of the view’s obscured. The Zambia side is nearer to the water and the views are much better.
