Overview
Paddle and swim through some of Kauai's most recognizable scenery on a combo kayak and snorkel tour of Hanalei Bay. Put aside navigation worries as your guide leads the way down the Hanalei River and into the bay and sets up a picnic lunch with views of Makana Peak. In addition to kayaking, don a snorkeling mask to explore the vibrant marine life of the Bay Reef Lagoon.
Highlights
  • Experience both kayaking and snorkeling on this Kauai combo tour
  • Paddle down Hanalei River and through Hanalei Bay
  • Look for sea turtles and fish while snorkeling in Bay Reef Lagoon
  • Includes light picnic lunch on the shores of the famous bay
What to Expect
Meet your guide in Kapaa and head to the launch point on the Hanalei River, where you learn basic paddling techniques and launch onto the river with a partner in a double kayak. Make your way downriver at a leisurely pace, passing through lush tropical forest and open taro fields. Spill out into crescent-shaped Hanalei Bay, and disembark on the shores for a rest and light sandwich lunch while enjoying views of Makana Peak, also known as the fictional Bali Hai from the 1958 movie South Pacific. Once recharged, use provided snorkeling equipment to explore the coral gardens of the Bay Reef Lagoon, home to colorful fish and even sea turtles. Climb back in your kayak and try riding the mellow bay waves if you like before paddling to the end point, where a driver waits to take you back to your original departure point in Kapaa.

My wife and I have been to Hideaways Beach many times in the past, but never by kayak, so we decided to give it a try. Overall this was a very enjoyable tour. I'll address a couple of drawbacks that kept me from giving this a five star rating first and end on a positive note.

Aloha, Thanks for the many "stars" you gave for our Hanalei Blue Lagoon Paddle & Snorkel tour. Since you took the tour Black Pot Beach much has changed and we are no longer having to walk to gain access to the park and our launch site by the Hanalei river. We now drive with our van to Black Pot and empty paddlers by our launch site. Hideaways, were you snorkeled, is no longer the hideaway of yesteryear, but in-spite of this, especially in the summer boast some great snorkeling. If it the same "less than happy lady", I did point out to her that on our www page that we market this paddle the more active couple/family; that there is a mild inland sea kayak component within the Hanalei reef. We do seriously try to match tour to clients and reviews like yours help. Thanks.

This adventure was so much fun! My two sisters and I were visiting the island together and we are fairly active/outdoorsy people. This kayaking and snorkeling adventure filled our desire for something fun and active to do outside. It wasn't necessarily super strenuous, but I

Aloha Brianna, Our Hanalei Blue Lagoon paddle and snorkel is our mid level tour and more for the active person/family who is at home in the water and wants a "petite" challenge all within the Hanalei River and reef complex. Thanks for helping us match clients to the proper tour with your very informative and fair review of this tour. And what can I say about Dan and Dustin...except the remain funny ....like odd? Seriously...we try to have a good time while keeping it all safe and informative. Stay paddling and keep having fun. A hui hou,

Our guides Jay and Dan did a terrific job. The kayaking was fun on the ocean and the snorkeling was great. The park being back open made for a very short walk to the water.

Aloha Ron, Glad to hear you enjoyed our guides on your Blue Lagoon, Hanalei River/Bay paddle and snorkel, Yes, Black Pot Beach Park, which recently opened has eliminated the walk along Hanalei Bay to our launch site by the pier and made logistics that much easier, which translates to more time on the water. The panorama the surrounds Hanalei is eye candy for the soul. Thanks for sharing. A hui hou,

My husband and I had a terrific time kayaking and snorkeling Hanalei Bay. Jay, our guide, was clearly very experienced in kayaking and had impressive local knowledge. He gave us some lessons on geography, botany, and history of Hanalei. He even explained where Puff the Magic

Aloha PaxMar, Top Notch review, I give your: ****************** (those are many stars) You should write the "Guide Book" for our 5 hour Hanalei Blue Lagoon paddle and snorkel! You gave a fair and wonderful description of what folks may encounter and who should go. Jay is excellent in the field and a joy to deal with in the field and back at our Shop. Very fortunate to have him on board. Thanks for sharing and taking the time. Note: Black Pot Beach Park is just re-opening and the walk to the launch area by the Hanalei Pier will be a thing of the past as we soon will be trailering clients and kayaks to Hanalei River to launch. P.S. Don't tell everyone where Puff is living these days. It's a secret.

TL; DR: LOT of wasted time, disorganized, do NOT recommend for good kayak experience. Be ready to carry your equipment a long distance over sand. The best way to summarize this experience was different, and not in the must do way. The day started out in a weird fashion after

Aloha Bobby, Yes...sometime things "are not as expected". Before the April 2018 floods that devastated the Hanalei area, we were comfortable and efficiently running our Hanalei Blue Lagoon tour from the convenience of Black Pot County Beach Park. The Park closure has forced us to take a curve and make it a plus by incorporating a short hike along the East side of beautiful Hanalei Bay to gain access to our kayaks and launch area; all adding time, effort not only for clients but for guides None of the above was expected and we have rolled with the punches and mentioned much above on our www site specific for this tour. If you scroll down Trip Advisor reviews you will find many folks, in-spite the inconveniences, having a generally good time, including enjoying the Hanalei beach walk. As a convenience we will meet at time folks up in Hanalei. Hanalei is a rural area and often specific addresses don't work. Seems the Fate's further conspired when you lost sight of the KK van. As for lunch...not a good idea to go snorkeling with a full stomach. Thanks for highlighting that we could improve our time management. Good news is by 21 of July County Beach Park will be open once again and will make it easier for this outing to be more efficient and run like the trains in Europe. Glad you enjoyed the snorkeling. Thanks again, A hui hou,
