Highlights
Enjoy a traditional luau in Kailua-Kona on Hawaii’s Big Island
Dine on a Hawaiian-style buffet, including Kona-style poke, banana bread, and more
Make the most of the open bar as you watch traditional Hawaiian hulas
Marvel over Fijian and Maori dances, as well as Samoan fire-knife dancing
What to expect
The Polynesian production at the Island Breeze luau has been voted 'best in west Hawaii,' and when you spend an evening at the King Kamehameha Kona Beach Hotel, it’s easy to see why this Big Island luau is one of the most popular in town. Held on the shores of Kamakahonu Bay. The luau is set near Ahu’ena — King Kamehameha’s former estate — and provides visitors with a backdrop of paddlers, boaters, and Hualalai volcano. When it’s time to eat before the show, choose from a 22-dish buffet that will satisfy even the biggest eaters, and enjoy the drinks at the open bar as the sun disappears on the horizon. During the royal procession, sit back and watch as King Kamehameha arrives in an outrigger canoe and performers offer an oli, or chant, while others blow on the conch. Over the course of the fiery Polynesian revue, you’ll travel across the Pacific Ocean from Fiji to Aotearoa, and hear dances, chants, stories, and tales from Tonga, Hawaii, and Samoa.

I reserved the upgraded package. I found out by googling that they canceled all Tuesday shows. I had to contact them and ask about our reservations. They offered to switch us to Tuesday. Ok. Fine. Well. We show up and find out they didn’t bother to give us the upgraded package we reserved. We were literally the very last table. The show is ok. The food is nothing special. The new layout is chaos. You don’t even know what food you’re in line for. The lines intersect. A mess. Don’t recommend.

Luau great
May 2019
It was a good night of entertainment and was very organized. I would recommend this luau to anyone visiting the big Island. It was scheduled at a very good time during the day.

Our party of four enjoyed the demonstrations, dinner, atmosphere and the show. My only concern was standing in line in the heat with our 80 year old mom. A bench or two on the path would have been helpful!

Rained Out
Feb 2020 • Friends
It was rained out, so they moved the luau inside to the ballroom. The storyline was great but it certainly wasn’t as good as the ones I have been to outdoors in the past.

The best luau in Hawaii
Jan 2020 • Friends
My and my mom had a wonderful time in the most beautiful luau grounds of the big island of Hawaii. It was a very light atmosphere, family friendly and quite professional. The service was great and the food delicious. I highly recommend this show.

Amazing Luau Night!
Jan 2020 • Couples
Got to the luau around 5 for the 5:30 show. We waited in a line where we were greeted with smiles, a shell and flower leis! We went around the corner for a quick picture which is always a must for a first timer! Once checked in, we headed outside where the luau was lit with lights, fire and the smell of good food! We were then assigned our seats and were told where the food, drinks and bathrooms were located. Our seats were towards the back by the water which was still a great view. Looking around I don’t think they have any bad seats which is a plus! The luau started promptly at 5:30 but got a chance before to grab a drink, watch a quick hula lesson and the pig roasting reveal! By then, it was time for the buffet to start and each of the tables were called one by one. The food was so good and had plenty for everyone which I was really impressed by along with the taste! Of course the night got even better once the show started! So many beautiful, talented, authentic dancers with amazing costumes I was in awe! It was truly a treat to see all the dancers perform their traditional dances and hear the live band along with them! The time honestly flew by but glad I got to take lots of pictures and videos to show family back at home! This luau exceeded all my expectations and more! Would not hesitate to recommend this luau to anyone who wants to experience a one of a kind luau night! Mahalo! 🙏🏼 🌺

Very mixed bag!
Jan 2020 • Couples
We visited Maui and the big island last week. Since I had been to the Old Lahaina Luau before and my partner had not been to one, we decided to wait til we got to Kona and see one there. This was a mistake. First I will say the dancers/musicians were great. The food was also good, really tasty, good selection, right temperature. But overall it was a big disappointment-perhaps I should have done more research, but it was not at all what I had hoped for. There are 7 dancers/performers in total so it’s a very small scale for a luau. In between numbers, the MC talks to the crowd and sings various songs. He was a fine singer but it seemed to me to be a filler each and every time (I presume because they have so few dancers they need time for costume changes). I was not paying $370 U.S. (we are🇨🇦) for what felt like a lounge singer from the 70’s. no disrespect to him, it’s just not what I thought I was paying for. The other really negative thing was they closed the bar after about 2 hours. We are not huge drinkers but part of the price of the tickets is open bar. It ends at 8:30 or so. It’s not like people are going to abuse the open bar all night. This was also an unpleasant surprise.

Maybe if I had never been to the other one in Lahaina, I would have been less disappointed at what we saw. AND one final note-they make you buy a lei! That was really disappointing! $20 for a lei and pay for parking on top of the fairly steep ticket price. I couldn’t recommend this luau.

Great glimpse of culture and good taste of some traditional foods

Attended this show during our honeymoon stay as a gift and was very happy with the whole night. My wife and I had an absolute blast and we would definitely do this option or another luau in the future. Poke was excellent, Poi was Poi, and the dancers were fire!
