Educational and fun activity. The combination of the tour and the caves was perfect. My teenage son and I learned a lot about Mayan culture and really enjoyed the cave tubing adventure. For those considering the ATM tour-- this does not require the same level of fitness, but is still loads of fun.

I highly recommend this tour, but if you're coming from Mariposa Jungle Lodge, factor in an additional $75 for hotel pick up and drop off. The activity says hotel pick up is included in San Ignacio town, and the tour company confirmed they would pick me up. However, a few days before the tour, when I still had time to cancel, I was told I would need to pay $75 in cash for hotel pick up in cash. The Mariposa Jungle Lodge actually is about 15-20 minutes out of town, so it was a big diversion. Just something to keep in mind when considering the cost of this tour if you're staying outside of San Ignacio proper.

Thank you for your great review. We are very happy you enjoyed our combo tour from San Ignacio town. Mariposa, your lodge is a beautiful resort nestled in San Antonio Village (18 km outside of town, approx 30 mins - local driving), and yes, all guests are contacted (booking system) as soon as their resort/hotel information is confirmed to us. We inform guests of the location and extra fee (only if we have to do the pickup & drop off). Guests who are staying within town OR meet us in town do not pay any extra fee. Extra fee for out of town - is a one off fee and varies as per location, road conditions, local price of fuel and per number of ppl booking (the more ppl per booking the lower the extra fee, at times no extra fee.) Keep enjoying our beautiful Belize. All the best.

Both the owner (Carla) who I dealt with through email in working with me to make a custom tour and transport and my actual tour guide Elio were absolutely excellent. If you are doing any type of tour (custom or preplanned) I cant recommend this company and Elio enough. Elio, in addition to be extremely knowledgeable about everything you could imagine and passionate about the places he takes you, is extremely attentive to every detail and makes you feel your in the best hands. He tells the history of the Mayans, nature, and Belizean culture in a way that I won’t forget...he’s extremely friendly, funny, and since I went solo, he really made me feel I wasn’t solo at all!

Can’t recommend this company and Elio enough, thank so much!

This tour was phenomenal! Our guide was Carla and she was THE BEST!!! She was so knowledgeable about everything and took her time to make sure we saw it all.

During the cave tubing she went the extra mile for our group and asked us if we wanted to see more of the caves instead of the shortcuts the other tour groups took and also led us on an extra adventure getting out of the tubes and hiking through the caves to swim and jump in two crystal clear blue pools (that had fish and shrimp in them)!

On top of being a great tour guide who clearly loves what she does, Carla is just the sweetest human being. We enjoyed talking to her throughout the tour and the car ride. Could not recommend this tour and Carla enough. Worth every single penny!

Carla was incredible and it’s clear how passionate she is about Mayan history- she’s the best! So grateful she shared her extensive knowledge with us. She really went out of her way to make the tour the best experience possible. She even offered to take us on side tours so we could learn more than other standard tours! She knew the caves very well and was able to show us parts of the cave that couldn’t be seen by only tubing. She even got us breakfast on the way there and gave us a home cooked meal for our lunch! Overall we couldn’t recommend her more. Take this tour, you won’t regret it! She’s a gem!

Side note - loved the format of seeing Xunantunich in the first half of the day then cave tubing in the afternoon. Great way to see both ruins and caves in the same day.

This trip is, by far, the best money I have ever spent on a guided trip. Our guide, Elio, picked us up at our hotel and our education started right away. Elio was funny, personable, and extremely knowledgeable about his country. He remembered the name of every person on our group (6) and made the experience into a personal one for each. Our experience at Xunantunich was spectacular! Stories of the history of the ruins that were emphasized by using the people in the group as members of the Myan culture. Elio had outstanding historical knowledge of the ruins. In addition he took us to a tarantula hole were we were able to coax a tarantula from his home. So COOL! The tour then transitioned to the cave tubing experience. We were treated to a yummy home cooked lunch of grilled chicken, coconut rice, Cole slaw, plantains, and mashed potatoes. After lunch we hiked 30 minutes to the top of the tubing trail. The cave tour was beautiful, exotic, fun, and entertaining. We visited the Crystal Caves and swam in the caves with the stalagtites just inches from our helmet covered heads. Wow! It was a great experience.

Thank you for taking time to write a review. We are so happy you had a memorable day with St Leonard's Tours. Elio is an exceptional guide who always strives to give all guests an unforgettable experience at both the incredible Xunantunich and cave tubing. We do our best to give a little extra when ever possible and one way is by taking the detour to crystal cave for whoever is up for the challenge. Its also great to hear you had an enjoyable meal and even remembered everything you ate!! Thank you once again and we look forward to taking you on another great adventure the next time you are in our neck of the woods.

Our family loved our private tour of Xunantunich and cave tubing with Elio. He was fantastic - provided tons of detail, answered all the questions from our kids (9, 11 and 13 yr old) and knew all the off the beaten trail treasures. Many tour groups passed us while in cave tubing, rushing through so quickly. However, Elio showed us all extra things to see and explore in the cave that I don't think others got a chance to see or appreciate. I especially appreciated how patient he was with the extra time I needed to get my daughter who has ADHD and anxiety comfortable with the bugs we encountered. This was the best tour of our entire trip to Belize which says a lot given we loved everything we did in Belize.

We had such an amazing day visiting Xunantunich and cave tubing. We learned so much about the history and culture of the area that we would have never known about had we not booked this tour. Elio made everything so fun and entertaining all day, you could tell he loves his job, and that he wanted us to love the tour (he succeeded). The food provided was amazing too and such a nice touch to have a delicious home cooked family style lunch with the group. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this to anyone who is adventurous and eager to learn about Mayan culture and journey through the underworld!

Amazing!! Highly recommend this tour for anyone looking to experience Belize’s rainforests, mind blowing cave rivers and Maya heritage. Our guide Elio was a fountain of historical knowledge, had a great sense of humor and went above and beyond showing us through the cave systems, their geology and wildlife. The operators at St. Leonard we’re on point and very professional. I will definitely be reaching out to this outfit next time we come back.

Fabulouso was our guide. This was our second year in a row to Belize but last year we just dove off Ambergris Caye. This year we decided to add this tour onto the end of our trip after the diving. We were so glad we added this tour. Fabulouso was amazingly knowledgeable, friendly and kind. He picked us up at our hotel in Belize City on time and stopped so we could get bug spray. At Xunantunich he explained the ruins and stories behind the Mayans as we explored. We saw howler monkeys and iguanas at the site. The view from the top of the tour was incredible!! After we left the ruins he took us to the zip lining and cave tubing. Fab was kind enough to stop at a fruit stand along the way so we could buy and eat some local fruit. The zip lining was short but fun and the cave tubing was amazing. We even saw bats in the caves and iguanas on the banks!! Also, our guide had the tubes for us at the put in site so we didn't have to carry them.

The walk to the ruins is slightly inclined but not hard. The steps up the ruins are a bit steep. I have recently injured my back and hip so I was worried about this adventure but I was able to make it up and down by taking my time (though my hip is still paying for it now a few days later). The walk to the cave entrance is about 2 miles over rocky/pebbly trails and 3 river crossings so make sure your water shoes have thick soles for the walk.

I highly recommend this company. Carla and Juan were our guides and we did a custom 2 day tour. I have been coming to Belize for over 10 years and have done many of the inland tours. This was the best and competitively priced. They were very responsive to all our questions prior to the trip and extremely flexible to provide us with a customized tour. They picked us up at the international airport (Carla was there waiting for us as we exited the building), took us on a tour of Xunantunich (where we were about the only ones there!), had a late lunch/early dinner, and then they took us to our resort. The next morning Carla picked us up from our resort, took us cave tubing and zip lining, and then had a super delicious lunch which Carla had prepared for us. After lunch, Carla took us to the municipal airport where we caught our flight to Ambergris Caye. We packed a lot into a day and a half and Carla and Juan made our visit so special and stress free!!! Belize is a special place with very special people!
