Highlights
Venture deep into the Belizean rain forest on a full-day cave tubing tour
Explore an ancient underground cave system with a headlamp and inner tube
Learn how the caves were once used for sacred Maya ceremonies
Includes snacks, drinks, and a picnic-style lunch
What to expect
Meet in downtown San Ignacio and enjoy the 1.5-hour drive on the scenic Western Highway to the Caves Branch River trailhead. Don the provided headlamp, helmet, and inflatable inner tube, before a 45-minute hike on a flat trail through the Belizean jungle to the first cave entrance. Float along the river’s gentle currents in and out of winding cave systems, marveling at intricate rock formations with the help of your headlamp. Along the way, learn about the area’s geology and the history of the Maya people, who considered these caves the sacred entrance to the underworld. Break for a snack and a refreshing swim in a natural jungle pool before floating through the third and final cave, home to wild bat colonies. Back in the sunlight, relax on a 20-minute float down the open river to the van. Recharge with a provided picnic lunch, before the return drive to San Ignacio.

Truly unique and fascinating
Feb 2020
We had such a great experience on the Mountain Pine Ridge tour, we decided to do a second tour with MayWalk the following day--cave tubing at the Nohoch Che'en Caves Branch Archaeological Reserve. My husband loved this tour (even though his off-brand water shoes fell apart, making the walk very uncomfortable!). The caves were still one of his favorite sites in Belize, and our guides, Joshua and Julio, made it a truly unique and enjoyable experience. We would absolutely recommend MayaWalk! This tour was fascinating and relaxing

A lovely and relaxing trip!
This was a delightful trip through two caves. Very interesting things to see including a few stalactites and some bats. Our guide was very informative about the caves and history and answered many questions about the country and its people. I also appreciated her help with carrying my inner tube! Lunch was delicious as was the rum punch! I truly enjoyed the day.

There are many excursion companies out there but I highly recommend Mayan Walk. Giselle (?) our guide was amazing - fun and extremely knowledgeable. We ziplined first and then tubed through the caves... poor girl paddled with me and my friend attached (we were a small group of 4 which I think was amazing and a lot more intimate and interactive). can’t recommend this tour company enough

They do need to update the description. We didn’t have a picnic (lunch at a nearby restaurant instead—included in cost), and we didn’t stop for a snack & swim before the last cave, and we saw no human remains.

Other than that this trip was just great. Karim (sp?) was our driver and he told us all about the countryside as we passed. And it wasn’t just a rote schpiel: I’ve been in Belize for a while and I could ask him questions about the landscape and politics and he’d answer outright or weave the answer into whatever he was describing at the time.

Marcus, the guide...I just don’t know if there are enough superlatives to describe his knowledge and his storytelling and his skills. Plus he told us a little about his life and he just seems like a really cool dude. If I was staying longer, I’d want to hire him directly for a longer tour. He was very kind and made us feel safe (I’m a little bit of a nervous nelly).

I’d done this trip before in 2014 with another tour company (I don’t remember the name), and this was so much better. Smaller (there were just 4 of us, but the maximum was 8), much better quality of inner tube (the backrest made a huge difference in comfort), longer time on the river, plus we ended with a little swim.

I *strongly* recommend this excursion. And I hope that you get a driver and guide as wonderful as Karim & Marcus.

Giselle was our tour guide and she is amazing. She was very patient; my Mom who is in her 70's was lagging behind a little bit and she carried by Mom's inner tub the whole way. Mayawalk was very accomodating b/c my Mom was sick on the morning of our original scheduled tour and they rescheduled us for the next day with NO penalty and were very kind. We will be doing the tour again except we will probably add the zip lining next time. Also the place that we stopped for lunch was a beautiful open air restaurant and the food was delicious!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

Relaxing day in the jungle
Tubing was a blast. It was great floating along the cave and into the jungle. It is a bit crowded with other tour companies tubing and kayaking. The tour guides at Mayawalk even let us explore the cave and jump into the water.

a bucket list activity
Jan 2020
This was an unforgettable experience! MayaWalk tours had a big part in that. While we saw other groups moving rather quickly, Oscar, our guide, took his time, made sure we got the full experience. He moved at our pace, answered all our questions, he was kind and fun to be with. He made sure all those in our party were comfortable with the activities and he even helped my husband retrieve his glasses that sank down to the bottom of one of the pools. I would 100% use them again next time.

Fabulous
I researched into many tour company and eventually noted that Maya Walk had the most and best reviews on Trip Advisor while offering the best pricing. We reserved 2 tours over the course of two days. I completed the reservation online and they contacted me immediately with details and pick up time. We stayed at Kaana and our driver, Kamal, picked us up on time, we went to the office to check in and meet our tour guide, Julio. They were so gracious to even offered us water shoes as we didn't have the best shoes for the trip. We drove 1.5 hrs, arrived on the parking lot, were given tubes, hard hats, head lamps, and off we went. We had to do an easy 20 mins hike where we learn a lot about the flora and fauna, had to wade into the same river 3x to get to the entrance. You'll tube in, stop half way, track in (very short hike), get back on the tube, and tube out.

Here are some tips I would provide future customers:
- Wear covered toe sandals or water shoes if you have any, you'll be wading into the river and walking on dirt ground so open toed sandals will attract dirt while walking.
- Bring a towel and an extra pair of clothes to change out. There's a decent restroom/changing room for after the trip.
- if you wish to bring your phone definitely bring a dry case with you. Local stalls around the entrance will rent them for $3USD but cheaper to bring. If not, best not to bring any equipment, wallet, etc.
- When wading into the river, the tour guide will recommend you to plunge in and get completely soaked, this will actually help from you feeling too cold while hiking. Join the fun!
- Definitely tip the guide. Especially if it's a Sunday as they take Sundays very seriously in Belize (it's a very dead city on Sundays)

Ask for Josh to be your guide - he made a great experience excellent!!
Jun 2019 • Family
The cave tubing tour was so much fun!! Josh, our guide, was enthusiastic, educated and patient with my curious 10 year old son. This tour was the highlight of our Belize trip. I had originally booked the ATM tour but after reading reviews all over the web, decided it might be too much for my son and decided this might be a better fit. Another guest on our trip had done ATM the day before and said this tour was so much better; more cave exploring, swimming and enjoyable overall; so I feel like we got all the adventure without the spookiness. My kids and I are moderately active and had no problem whatsoever keeping up. Anyone with the slightest sense of adventure should do this tour and ask for Josh. His energy and positivity was palpable.
