Overview
On this 4.5-hour round-trip tour to Mount Vernon, gain a whole new perspective on U.S. history. On the way, a guide provides fascinating historical background and stories about points of interest in Old Town Alexandria that are often unmarked and easy to miss. While most guided tours stick to rigid schedules, you are free to explore George Washington’s former home at your own pace.
What to Expect

Board the bus at L’Enfant Plaza in downtown DC. Rather than navigating out of the city on your own, sit back and listen to on-board commentary during the scenic 30-minute ride to Mount Vernon, home of George Washington.

During the drive, the guide points out landmarks you may have missed have you come on your own, including General Robert E. Lee’s boyhood home and a tavern once frequented by the Founding Fathers. Enjoy the sights of historic Alexandria from the comfort of the coach as you make your way to Mount Vernon.

On arrival, explore at your own pace. Visit the gardens overlooking the Potomac River, the slave memorial and burial grounds, the outbuildings, and the Washingtons’ tombs. No need to purchase tickets in advance, as they are included in the tour.

About 4.5 hours later, return with the guide to the tour’s original point of departure in Washington DC.

Best tour driver ever

We had a great tour to Mt. Vernon, but our driver, Charles Smith, was the best at the history along the trip there. He was knowledgeable, funny and a real comfortable guy to ride with. Tell Oprah to check him out, he's a real sweetheart.

For the history buff

To see the final resting place of our founding fathers, seeing the bed he passed away in and touching the same stairway banister as George Washington and many other true Patriots was a must see. Prices are reasonable and since they take you into the...More

I don't think so. We got on across from the Postal Headquarters and did not make a stop along the way to pick up others.
