We would definitely recommend On Yer Bike for anyone keen to explore some of the wineries around Hastings!

Very easy to arrange and easy to find, located just next to Ash Ridge winery. The bikes were clearly used, but we had absolutely no issues with their function, and were available swiftly on arrival in multiple sizes. There are 2 route options from their depot, and these were clearly explained using their map, which is provided. We chose the Bridge Pa triangle route, which included 5 vineyards and a cycle through the vineyards themselves.

There are no tastings included in the package (we didn’t expect this!), which we felt allowed us to be a bit more relaxed and spend time in the vineyards as opposed to rushing to get to the next one.

They also offered a free collection service for all the wines purchased to save us carrying them around in the basket, which made things much easier! On our return to the depot our wine was waiting for us, and they were very helpful in arranging some transport back to our accommodation.

An enjoyable day all round!

We had a good day riding our bikes around the Hawkes Bay wineries. Good bikes with baskets for personal things.
All the cycle paths are off road and therefore safe and hassle free. I would recommend the longest offered time frame as we had to rush at the end.
It was also very nice to have the bought wine picked up at the wineries, so we didn't have to drive them around.
I highly recommend taking an e-bike as it gets harder riding your bike after the second winery ;-)

Great fun and super easy to ride on the flat trails between the wineries.

The wineries along the way were all quite different, so gave a good mix of places to visit.

We bought wine at all of them and the bike place comes around to collect them so they don't rattle down the road in your bike.

Definitely a fun day out and minimal fitness required. Would be even easier on e-bikes but was so flat its probably not worth the extra cost.

We booked last minute for 6 people including an 8 year old and we were accommodated perfectly. Bikes were comfortable and easy to ride, good bike for our young one and was able to keep up. We were provided a map and good advice where to have lunch etc.
Wine we bought was collected and waiting for us when we dropped our bikes back. Overall great family day out.

As per the title this company has a policy of including those in your party $20 who have their own bikes when you wish to hire one bicycle to go cycling the vineyards in this region. This is applied even when stating we do not want your tour notes, we know what we want to do. As a New Zealand citizen, I find this policy to be usuary, not a good look on NZ as a destination, Sorry to Ash Field winery if you are independant of the bike hire, we didn't stop to taste and buy a dozen that Te Awa got instead.

Thank you for taking the time to write your review of On Yer Bike Winery Tours. We are sorry that you feel that the service you received was below par. However, we feel that you have misinterpreted the reason why we are in business. We are a bike hire company that offers people the facility to visit the wineries by bike. If one person in a group turns up with a bike and they hire the majority of the bikes from us then we charge a nominal fee that covers secure car parking, access to our route, collection of your purchases from the other wineries and assistance if you have problems whilst out cycling (notably help you repair a flat tyre) - all the services that come when you hire a bike from us. Turning up with your own bikes, parking your car in our private car park and expecting to follow our tour route for free is not what we are about. You didn't call and book a bike or talk to us about what you wished to do. If so we might have explained our situation in advanced - information that is clearly stated on our website. It must be said that all the wineries in the region only have parking for their patrons and not for people who wish to park and cycle off to another winery. There is a free car park at Roy's Hill reserve on State Highway 50 - which is also on the wineries trail - from where people with their own bikes can start a winery tour.

We booked as a group of 9 people. We had electric bikes & normal bikes. We had so much fun. Im not a big bike riding person but I managed to bike the whole way. We had a great lunch at one of the wineries & lots of tastings at the others. It really was a great day, the body was not even sore the next day! They also pick up all your purchases to give to you at the end of the day to take home. Awesome!

Today, we rented 2 bikes for a self guided winery tour of the Bridge Pa area. Not knowing how long we would take before tasting (and biking) became a blur (and unsafe), we paid for 3 hrs = $35 x 2 people = $70. Had a lovely time at Ash Ridge, Oak Estate and Ngatarawa wineries before very stormy weather hit so we returned to On Yer Bike rental after only 2 hrs. In that case, the bike rental cost should have been only $25 x 2 = $50 but they would not refund us. BAD! To add further insult, the rental location is on the site of Ash Ridge Winery...he could easily have offered us a couple of glasses of wine and still had a good profit margin and maintained some goodwill. Instead, I’m writing this message: bike renter beware and boycott Ash Ridge Wines. #dontscrewtourists

This is an over priced, money making tour. The bikes were very tired and badly in need of a service. Gears slipped, tyres were under inflated and they creaked and squeaked the whole way. Not worth the $55 per bike.
The briefing and map were vague at best and the initial part of the route was fenced off with a temporary electric fence. When trying to call On Yer Bike on their “if you need help or assistance (for bike break down)” we got through to their answer machine.
The route is not clearly sign posted and we made numerous attempts to find some of the wineries.
2 of the 6 wineries available were closed on the day we visited which wasn’t mentioned in the briefing.
I definitely wouldn’t recommend this and would have preferred a bike ride around the city or along the river.

We read all the previous reviews, but were still a bit unsure about the 20km ride, as we are only occasional bike riders - but it is setup so as to go at your own pace or to cut the tour short to suit. Very well organised, great bikes, friendly advice and tips. Friendly folk at all the vineyard. We had a terrific lunch at Oak Estate vineyard, with only a short peddle back to On Yer Bikes afterward. If you're inclined to buy wine along the way, it is collected on your behalf and waiting for you when you arrive back. Very well thought through and operated.

Everyone at On Yer Bike was amazing. It was a gorgeous sunny day in October and we were greeted warmly by Phil and his team. The bikes were in great condition, well until I got to one of them. They gave us clear directions to take advantage of the beautiful bike paths through the vineyards and gave us a clear expectation of how long the day of touring would take us. Even though the bikes had baskets they offered to go around and pick up our purchases! Bonus!
Unfortunately for me after only one winery I had a little collision with a drainage pipe going under a drive way. It's very temping to take pictures in motion and capture the memorable moments. Don't do it! Stop the bike! I was taking a picture of my daughter, next thing I know everyone in the group stopped at an upcoming driveway. Too late for me! Instead of taking out my whole family I pointed to the ditch and they I lay. Phil came to my rescue and pulled my from my plunder. Sorry Phil for denting the basket on the bike. And thank you so much for taking care of me! Five stitches later and we were on are way again, but in a car ;(
Phil we will be back to finish our tour next year. I owe you a basket and another bottle of Washington State wine to share.

Many thanks for you review, so glad to hear that the fall didn't stop you from having a great day. You put our emergency response protocols to the test and we passed! In a season we an occasional cut or graze from people having a difference of opinion with their bike and gravity - none which are a result of wine tasting, mostly from distractions whilst riding! We look forward to seeing you next time you are in NZ.
