    Te Puia
Stop: 6 hours - Admission included
Join Tauranga’s best Shore Excursion team for an unforgettable journey to Rotorua – New Zealand’s cultural and geothermal hub. This tour is a must for those wanting to see and do it all in Rotorua – this is our premier Rotorua experience. Entry to the fantastic Te Puia complex is the highlight of the day. Unlike many other advertised tours, the Maori cultural performance is included – as well as a dedicated and knowledgeable guide for the day. Your guide will share their passion and knowledge about not only Rotorua, but the Bay of Plenty region as a whole. Learn about the province and see why it is such a popular place to live. You will visit a kiwifruit orchard to see how this quintessential New Zealand icon is grown, as well as be taken on a tour of Rotorua’s interesting city centre – including famous landmarks such as Govt Gardens, the Bath House, Blue Baths and the lakefront. We also make a stop at picturesque Okere Falls. Highlights of Te Puia: • See geysers explode high into the air, viscous mudpools bubble away and boiling hotpools simmer endlessly. You will only get those iconic geyser photos at Te Puia where you are up close and personal with many of the geothermal features. • Experience an awe-inspiring cultural performance from a local Maori group. The 45 minute concert includes a powhiri (welcome) onto the Marae (meeting house), as well as traditional songs and dances. You will see the famous Haka (war dance) - guaranteed to send a shiver down your spine! • Spot the elusive kiwi in the nocturnal enclosure. These shy birds are our national icon and are now endangered. • Watch craftsmen and women learn their trade in the newly refurbished carving and weaving schools. The apprentices here are keeping their customs alive.

A great day
Feb 2020
First, we were so pleased that the tour was not cancelled even though there were only 4 of us on this particular day.
Our guide was very knowledgeable and provided a well paced tour through the geothermals, a kiwi fruit orchad, the Te Puia, Okere Falls and the Rotoroa area.
I highly recommend this tour to other visitors.

Thanks for the review, we do not cancel tours just because there are just a few clients, we will go on tour even if there are just 2 persons. In some cases when we have a number of tours operating we do upgrade clients to a more extensive and more expensive tour at no extra charge, rather than running lots of tours with just a few persons on each. Clients are always happy to be upgraded it seems [same as a business class upgrade with the airlines we assume]. Regards Ian

Excellent, just excellent
Keith and Mark were consummate guides, extremely knowledgeable and able to communicate their knowledge very well.
The itinerary was just what we wanted (the kiwi fruit farm was surprisingly interesting )
The geothermal area was outstanding and the guides forecast the eruption very well. The Maori experience was superb, having a tongue pulled out at you is fun.
The site seeing tour ticked all the boxes...a tour that is well recommended.

Organised and informative.
Our driver/guide Keith was knowledgeable, friendly, courteous and easy going. The bus was clean and well appointed. A great day visiting Okere Falls, the geothermals, Maori village and craft training school. Plenty of time to explore.

shoretripsandtours.com - works well for Rotorua and its sights!
Jan 2019 • Couples
Booked the trip online with shoretripsandtours.com.
Keith met us at the Tauranga dock and drove us around the Bay of Plenty to see Government House, Te Puia & Maori performance, Okere Falls, and the Kiwi orchard (more interesting than expected).
The group fit in a minivan so we were able to move quickly and more easily than with the big buses. Keith cued us well as to when and where to be to catch sight of the erupting geysers and the elusive kiwi.
When we returned to the dock, his wife and grandchildren were there to greet all, with time for the energetic to do a quick visit to Tauranga before returning to the ship. A full and satisfying day.

TAURANGA DAY TOUR
Nov 2018 • Couples
We had the best day tour with this company and the BEST tour guide Stuart. Stuart was so informative and helpful to every ones needs. We booked this tour through Trip Advisor so we knew it would be spot on. Well actually I booked it for the day before we were due at Tauranga, but a quick phone call to the company got things sorted and I cant speak more highly for their professionalism. Off we went along the coast, up hill and down dale. First stop being a Kiwi orchard. As I eat at least one kiwi fruit a day I didn't bother with the tasting, but the staff were very accommodating. Off we went to the Thermal Pools. Ticked my bucket list here. The geysers were amazing. Well performed. The mud pools - Oh WOW. blurp, pop and performed well. Around bends and through pastures found us at a Cultural village. So much to see and do here. The restaurant provided fantastic buffet food. Then up to the gates we went, where we were met by a lady in traditional costume who explained what we were to expect. On que a young man came up to the gates and performed a traditional dance before rubbing noses with our selected leader. Then we followed inside the meeting place and were entertained by national dancing and songs, before we were introduced to the Haka. Once this was over we went on our merry way. Stuart was most attentive to all our needs, and he was a gracious guide who answered every question put to him. Eventually we ended up at the Port of Tauranga to meet our cruise ship, but before we boarded we went to the local RSL club where we were introduced to the golden beverages on tap belonging to the breweries of New Zealand. Anyone visiting Tauranga must do one of these tours. I would suggest using Viator/Trip Advisor because you know that you will get what you pay for.

Hello Jim Vic Cairns, thank you VERY much for such a wonderful review. I was smiling from ear to ear reading your 'story' and you made me wish I'd been on the tour with you!! It doesn't get much better than having a perfect day out does it and certainly our guides and the format of our tours just further enhance the wonderful scenery and friendly local people we meet along the way. And of course you are dead right that the booking process and professionalism of your agent - whether you book directly with us or through a third party, like Viator is hugely important to getting the tour off to a great start. So overall we are rapt you had a fantastic experience and we look forward to maybe seeing you again one day. Kind regards Kim

Stuart picked us up from Cruise terminal and took us on a wonderful trip to Te Puia and surrounding countryside. Had a great time and he made sure we saw everything we could in the limited time available. There were others in our party and he made certain we all did what we came for.

Fabulous day
Thanks to Graham we had a fabulous day. His knowledge was wide and deep and we came away really well informed about the area and all aspects of the tour. The Maori village was good and the geysers and mud pools were awesome.
This is one we’d definitely recommend.
