Overview
Visit the Waitomo Glowworm Caves and the Hobbiton Movie Set on a convenient tour from Auckland that explores two top sites in one all-inclusive day. You’ll cruise an underground river lit by twinkling glowworms, then see hobbit holes and filming sites, all while taking in the North Island’s gorgeous scenery. End the day at the original departure point or in a central location in Rotorua.
What to Expect
Start the day with pickup at selected hotels in Auckland, or at a centrally located meeting point. You’ll board a coach for the trip to Waitomo, enjoying a morning snack as you pass through rolling hills and farmland.

Upon arrival in Waitomo, go underground on a boat tour of the Waitomo River, where twinkling glowworms provide the only light in a series of caves and caverns. After the Waitomo Glowworm Caves tour, pause for an included picnic lunch and continue through the Kaimai Ranges to Matamata.

At the Hobbiton Movie Set, join a guide for a behind-the-scenes tour of the film site for The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, where director Peter Jackson recreated the world of Middle Earth. After the Hobbiton Movie Set tour, you have the option to return to Auckland or continue to Rotorua, famed for bubbling hot springs and vibrant Maori culture.

This one surprised me...

I'm not a huge Lord of the Rings fan. I liked it, but quite honestly, the idea of spending money to see the Hobbiton was my girlfriends idea. And I will say, it turned out excellent! I think I became more interested in the movies...More

We actually did the trip to Hobbiton set and the Waitomo cave and then went on the Rotorua. The drivers of the buses could not have been more helpful and genuine. They made sure we got on to the correct buses and added interesting information...More
