  • Depart from Perth by boat and high-speed ferry or Fremantle by high-speed ferry

What to Expect
Depart from Fremantle via high-speed ferry, or depart from Perth for a 1-hour scenic cruise along the Swan River to Fremantle, followed by the high-speed ferry. Either way, enjoy the view from the water. Cross the Indian Ocean to Rottnest, where you receive your rental bike and safety equipment. Head for Bathurst or Wadjemup lighthouses, Pilot Boathouse, Rottnest Island Museum, or Lomas Cottage. As you ride, keep a lookout for seals at Cathedral Rocks or the island's native quokkas. If you upgraded to include food, stop at Karma Rottnest for lunch. If you upgraded to include snorkeling, enjoy the underwater view. You return either to Barrack Street Jetty in Perth or Shed B in Victoria Quay Fremantle.

A wonderful way to spend a day when visiting Perth. We caught the Rottnest Express from Perth. It takes 1.5hrs to get to the island but the commentary as you travel along the Swan River was interesting and made the time go quickly. We did the long 22km bike ride around the

We opted for the combined ferry and bike hire package from Fremantle which worked really well. We cycled to Geordie Bay where we had a picnic lunch on the beach and met some quokkas. We returned via Bathurst lighthouse (great sea views!) and had a beer at Frankie’s which is the

The perfect way to explore the island. But don't be fooled - it's not all flat and a little fitness is needed if you want to do all the island, but there is always the option to do less which would still be plenty. Great way to explore at your pace. Remember sunscreen. If

Beautiful Island. We opted for the hop on hop off bus so we were able to stop and enjoy each location. Great value and worked for us. And yes there were Quokkas....some people obviously chose to ignore the multiple signs of no feeding or touching to my dismay I even observed

Hi Maree A, Thank you for your response. Its great to hear that you enjoyed your day on the island and were able to utilise the hop on hop off bus service. Unfortunately not all visitors to the island adhere to the 'do not feed the wildlife' rules, so we surely appreciate those that do. Human food is not healthy for Quokka's and can even shorten their life span by a few years as their bodies cannot properly process our food. Thank you for visiting the island and we look forward to welcoming you back on board Rottnest Express soon. Kind Regards, Lydia

Easy booking through trip advisor, smooth ferry ride over but I would definitely get the ferry from Fremantle instead of Perth next time saving 1 hr of slow cruising before you hit open waters. The bikes were well maintained and easy to ride even for novices but can be hilly at

Hi 99Betty, Thank you for your response. You certainly are correct, its almost impossible to take a bad picture on Rottnest Island! The ferry from Perth includes a guided river tour down the Swan River. This is at a slower pace, there is a speed limit in place of 8 knots for passenger vessels. If you wish to get to the island faster, we recommend departing from Fremantle. Otherwise the river cruise is a great way to learn about the diverse history and culture of the river and its residents. We look forward to welcoming you back on board soon. Kind Regards, Lydia
