What a blast! From the first good morning to the final goodbye, Dom was full of warmth, enthusiasm and joy. We did 4 waterfalls, 2 lookouts, a crater lake, fantastic views, some challenging hikes and a day of easy fun had by the 14 of us on board the bus. He drove well, fast enough without being reckless at all. Meals are pretty bare essentials namely the DIY sandwich lunch and biscuits/lamingtons morning tea. It made the tour feel lacking in value/care; considering we had hot chicken, 3 full on salads, cheese platter, fruits and wine on a Reef trip the day before (on a boat in open sea!), for less money than this tour! It was an 11 hour trip! Good we came prepared with our own crackers, cheese and olive dips. Atherton tablelands is stunning naturally anyway and this tour gave us an eyeful of some amazing scenes. All kudos to Dom... he was the real value here!

This is an incredible experience to have from start to end. Don was knowledgeable and fun, catered to everyone on the tour and left us wanting more! I had suspicions prior to booking if this tour was going to be just a “party bus” vibe with young teens. But it turned out to be much better than expected, and Don had a great selection of music and given his deep knowledge of area, he was quick to tell us all we needed to know, and point out the local secrets of the area. We found all different types of animals throughout the day, and we had ample time to explore, rest and enjoy. I would advocate for everyone coming to the area to hop on the tour! We’ll be back for sure :)

We are absolutely stoked to hear you had such an incredible and educational experience! There are so many hidden wonders, and unique wildlife species in the tropical rainforests of Far North Queensland. Dom is very enthusiastic about sharing his knowledge and showing you the best of what Cairns surrounds have to offer! We can't wait to see you out here again! - The Barefoot Tours Team

I really liked the places we visited despite the crappy weather and our guide was upbeat and shared some interesting facts about the rainforest and its wildlife. Big let down was the food! We asked for vegan food well in advance via email and reconfirmed a couple of days before. Still at lunch we were only given lettuce, tomato, cucumbers hummus and rice crackers. Morning tea was tea/coffee with some oranges as all the sweets had dairy in it. Pretty underwhelming, taking into account they confirmed they would have vegan options throughout the day

Would 1,000,000% recommend you book this tour, if you want a fun, informational, exciting and breathtaking day!!
We were picked up by Daryl, who was an absolutely fantastic host.. at 7:30 am in the mini bus. We got on the bus to the best group of people we could’ve wished for and made our way into the cairns rainforest. We stopped at some truly breathtaking sights including waterfalls and different photo taking spots. Nothing was rushed and we had plenty of time at every stop to enjoy ourself. Wether it was diving into the lakes and falls or chilling in the sun and chatting to people we had just met. Daryl the tour guide was absolutely fantastic and made sure everyone got involved and got to know each other, it was so easy and by 10 am we as a group were all talking and getting to know each other!! Food served was great and more than enough and the bus was comfortable and cool. We was allowed on the aux to play music and stopped off whenever needed for whatever we needed. This short paragraph doesn’t do it justice. Just book!!

Hi Jay, I absolutely love your review, thank you! Our team work so hard to make sure each one of our guests enjoy their day with us, and witness some stunning locations accross the Cairns region. Daz is a bloody typical Aussie legend in our books and is passionate about his backyard, his culture and having a right good laugh. We focus on our guides as this helps take your day from great to absolutely amazing... Sounds like you made mates with a bunch of legends on board and we are glad to be apart your stories and experiences. The Atherton Tablelands offers such a wide variety of sites accross not so much distance considering and we love being able to show people around <3 Make sure you hit us up if you ever return to Cairns, or your friends :-) Chels @ Barefoot Tours

We had a great day on the Atherton waterfalls day trip in November. Our driver Rowan was so down to earth, making everyone feel welcome and included. He had a great personality and sense of humour and by end of day we felt like we had known him forever. We liked the songs he played as we came up to landmarks - this added to the fun. Scenery at every stop was different and amazing from waterfalls to national parks etc, we never felt rushed. He ensured everyone knew the plans for the day. Lunch was also lovely and in a nice park setting. Rowan also took photos for everyone. We had a nice small crowd on bus due to covid and hand sanitiser was available. We highly recommend this tour. Rowan you are an asset to your employer and thank you again for a wonderful day.

This was an excellent and relaxed way to explore the wonderful world of the Atherton Tableland. We walked through the rainforest, swam in picturesque streams and waterfalls, saw many plant and animal species and enjoyed views of tropical agriculture landscape. Our guide was Russell, a caring, attentive, enthusiastic guide with an extensive knowledge about the history and nature of this special place. He drove with us more than 300 kms - it was a pleasant ride with a lot of stops and free time to enjoy ourselves. We felt like being on a class trip with our favorite teacher. Highly recommended!

This trip was everything I had wanted! We visited all of the spots I had hoped for.

The guide Rowen was excellent. Pick up was bang on time, he was incredibly knowledgeable about the area, the food provided was great, the bus comfortable and he was great fun. I was particularly impressed with the briefings on each area, with a focus on how to safely enjoy the stop.

I will also add that as a 40 year old bloke travelling solo, I enjoyed this trip as much as anyone, definitely not solely aimed at youth or backpacker market.

The locations we visited were absolutely stunning and well worth a visit. Our problem was with our tour guide. He took absolutely no notice in any of the group apart from the two Danish girls he obviously was attracted to. All he wanted to do was take photos of them, even though they didnt want to at all. Everytime he needed help from someone, he'd grab them. Anytime he wanted to take a photo, it was of them. Maybe the best example was when we were stood by them and he ran over and said girls do you want to learn, do you want to learn? Then 30 seconds later when he had walked off with them decided to turn around and say to myself and my partner oh you can come as well if you want. I mean we had paid for the same tour! Or when he wanted a photo of the smallest person in the group next to a vine to show how big it was he completely ignored another girl who was by far the smallest just so he could try and place one of the Danish girls next to it. Then later on when at the natural water slide he ran up to the top, leaving everyone and only showed the two girls how to go down and the safest way to do so, before then going down himself and getting up the other side so he could film the girls. He also ran around everywhere, wouldn't wait for the group, just wanted to show off how strong he was or how well he could swim. All day all he kept talking about was vines stopping the car and walks to tell us all about the same vines constantly. Awful host!

Hi Lewis, Thanks for your feedback and I am sorry to read you didn't have a great time out with Terry... Terry is fairly new with Barefoot Tours, and he has not done guiding (ever) before but we love his energy and passion for the Cairns area and he really is obsessed with waterfalls around Cairns covering like 72 places or something between here/Mission beach/Daintree (he's over taken me!). He does have lots of great reviews on TripAdvisor but is still learning about the different aspects of guiding, balancing his energy amongst the group, learning to read/adapt to different personalities and other things... We do see where you are coming from and we really appreciate your feedback as it is the only way our guides can improve for the next group of guests exploring the Tablelands. The two dannish girls you talk about have left feedback on tripadvisor earlier on, and I spoke with one of them a few days prior to the tour as one of them was really nervous about swimming in the freshwater, we put notes down for the guides for things like this, so prehaps this is why you have seen Terry pay particular attention to them if so, or using them to go down the rock slide with, whilst showing the group the safetest way down into the water (two birds, one stone *pun intended). Terry is a bit of a sinker when it comes to the water, whilst it looks like hes showing you up, with his good swimming skills, he just has to kick harder to stay a float... All our guides are show offs in some way or another, this is their job, their home, their territory and where they most likely feel the most confidence, plus we ask them to show the Tablelands off to the world - we think it is stunning and we want the whole world to know just how amazing it is... Daz he show's off with how good he is with wildlife, manages to find cassowaries, tree kangaroos, catches snakes (legally) and has this enormous passion for them and all round just a typical aussie teddy bear. Russ he show's off this educational in depth knowledge on all nature things wildlife, plants, history he has guided all over australia and only has Cape York to tick off his list, incredible amount of knowledge. Terry comes from a personal training background, being new to guiding probably still falls back on what he is more confident in which is fitness, photography, being 200% full of energy and his latest obsession with vines - which is pretty cool... He is still learning, the other guides have 15+ years experience behind them and whilst that is great we all have to start from somewhere, if someone has the enthusiam and eagerness to work hard for their goals we don't let experience be the difference on whether we train them up or not... and with that is a bit of trial and error and more focus on them and how we can help them to be their best selves. And it definately wasn't intentional that Terry picked one of the danish girls to take a photo next to the vine rather then picking the absolute smallest person in the group, he said he felt the two danish girls weren't so shy about being on spotlight (me for example, I will do anything not to stand out in the group) for photos or things like that, so we are all very different with personalities and who we fit well with and not so well with. Terry approached us as soon as he read your feedback online and wanted to talk about it with us, on where he could have gone wrong, how he could have handled it better and what to do for the future, as he is serious about being a good tour guide for everyone not just the two danish girls on tour ;-) . He would like you to know when he invited you and your girlfriend to follow him with the Danish girls, it was meant in a friendly way like come along, not in a smart a** type of way, he says he genuinely meant it in a friendly way. There is a lot of points you have let us know about, and helps us to focus on certain bits more than others... Another key thing that a lot of tour guides (not just ours) tend to do is walk fast, as they are so use to walking it everyday and very fit that they have to remind themselves to slow down, and walk as fast as the slower people in the group, you guys are experience for the first time and I have to slow myself down too. I would have loved to address this in a more private email but unfortautely it's right out in the public eye for everyone to read. I think you would have both been better suited to either of our other two guides and had I known that in advance (even though it's almost impossible) but I definately like to have each of our guides play to their strengths whether thats youth/adventure, education, nature/wildlife or other. Kind Regards, Chelsea @ Barefoot Tours

We came to Cairns for my husband’s birthday and wanted a tour to sum up what the area is about and this experience was second to none mostly due to our guide, Russell who was vastly knowledgeable an provided us with all kinds of information about Cairns in terms of its history and about its contemporary facts. I loved that he touched on the Aboriginality aspect of Cairns and he did so with the outmost respect and reverence. He was extremely helpful and went above and beyond to look after all tour participants. As a former cruise ship crew member I had the chance to go as an escort on many shore excursions and tours and to rate the guides and provide feedback about the service quality and I can say that Russell is up there, on the top. It’s not just his wealth of knowledge but also the fact that you could tell he was very passionate about the area in general and particularly rainforests.

Hi Georgiana, Happy Birthday to your hubby from all four of us at Barefoot Tours! Russ is extremely passionate about his backyard, he is our walking encylopedia for all things Wet Tropics and we are so pleased to have him and Daz working with us. They are both very well experienced, passionate, keen to teach, to show and look after their homeland. It's great reading such feedback from a ex cruise ship worker, as I am sure you must have been on so many tours around the world. Thank you so much for taking the time to write a fantastic review. Lots of love, Barefoot Tours

We had the most amazing trip with James on Thursday. He was a fantastic guide; so interactive and friendly. We had a lovely tour group and it was such an amazing tour. We saw so many sites! We travelled over 300km - giving testament to just how much we got to see. But don’t worry you’re not stuck in a bus all day! We had 9 different stops; including 4 swimming sites. The food was perfect; muffins, cakes and fruit for morning tea, diy sandwiches for lunch with lots of choices and Aussie biscuits for afternoon tea. The weather was great up there; a little bit cooler than in Cairns so was great for exploring. We got to see a few natural wildlife too. Could not recommend this tour more. They bring along a waterproof camera and you get all the photos for free which was great! Went with 2 adults and a 20 and 16 year old and we all loved it! Thanks so much!!!
