    What to Expect
From story telling to story living, this double combines Darwin’s only Bombing of Darwin cruise with a visit to Darwin’s premier virtual reality experience.  The Bombing of Darwin will come alive on this combined adventure.

Your Bombing of Darwin cruise is a journey on the water that starts at Stokes Hill Wharf and takes in the historic wharf areas, the Pearling Luggers, the oil tanks, the wreck sites of the SS Neptuna and USS Peary, the old flying boat base at Doctors Gully, HMAS Coonawarra and the Emery Point gun emplacement.

Your Bombing of Darwin virtual reality experience is located within the RFDS Tourist Facility, and is a state of the art presentation which includes life size holograms, interactive story telling mini ghosts, virtual reality of the bombing of Darwin Harbour, replicas of a Japanese Zero aircraft and Camilla the Flying Boat, and a window of 1942 and an aerial view of the bombing raids.

Your Bombing of Darwin Double is located on Stokes Hill Wharf.  You can choose to cruise first at 11am, returning back to Stokes Hill at 12.15 where you can enjoy lunch in the alfresco food halls and your leisurely experience in the RFDS Tourist Facility.  Alternatively visit The RFDS Tourist Facility any time from 0930 and whet your appetite for your journey on Darwin Harbour at 11am.

For those travelling on the Big Bus, why not do the circle!  Hop off at Stop 10 Stokes Hill Wharf, enjoy the RFDS Tourist Facility and then your Harbour Cruise, and then hop back on to the Big Bus at Stop 4 Cullen Bay.

We were at something of a loss of what to do for our final morning in Darwin and happened upon this double in our search. We were so please to have found it. The hour cruise around the harbour was so informative; Rob really knows his stuff, we could have listened to him for

The new boat was comfortable and well handled by the two crew who shared interesting information on what happened in Darwin when the Japanese bombed in WW2 - lots of little known facts.

Absolutely excellent. Very informative- just the right length of time. Immaculate boat. Would 100% recommend to learn about Darwin and the impact of World War 2. The RFDS museum is also fabulous with its hologram, virtual reality and RFDS plane to board. Educational experience

I found the Darwin Military Museum to be much more informational than the displays in the Royal Flying Doctors Service Tourist Facility. I don't think the virtual reality display for the bombing is useful at all but did enjoy the Flying Doctors VR (but I'm a veterinarian).

Hi Julie, Thanks for taking the time to post a review, and provide your feedback on the "double". We're glad that you enjoyed your cruise, and that you were able to find some synergy with the RFDS displays, even though they weren't related directly to our war history.

The boat tour was not what we expected. We were disappointed that the boat did not go to the promised wreck sights of SS Neptuna and USS Peary; the only explanation given was that "you might get wet", though the water was not choppy. However, the crew were friendly and the

Hi Cook29, Thanks for taking the time to post a review. Thankyou for your compliments about our crew. They always have passenger comfort as a priority, and for that reason every now and then when there is a stiff s'easterly on the harbour the wreck site of the USS Peary is forgone to ensure that all on board stay dry on our open boats. You might recall though that the story of the USS Peary was still spoken to from the seascape where the memorial is, and that the hour cruise was filled with visits to other relevant war sites. We're sorry you were disappointed, but for us it is about trusting the crew to weigh up all factors, and making a Captain's call about what is right on the day. The cruise always transits the site of the SS Neptuna, as that site is close to Stokes Hill Wharf where the cruise leaves from, and forms an integral part of the first 10 minutes of commentary. We're glad that you enjoyed your time in the RFDS, we agree it is a fantastic virtual reality experience.
