West MacDonnell Ranges Day Trip from Alice Springs
From US$99,97
Overview
Pack all of the highlights of the West MacDonnell Ranges into a single day tour, with transportation provided in between multiple stops. Departing from Alice Springs in a comfortable tour vehicle, focus on the stunning scenery and benefit from a guide's insightful commentary as you travel. Highlights include Glen Helen, Ellery Creek, Standley Chasm, Ocre Pits, Ormiston Gorge, and Simpsons Gap. Chances to swim and hike along the way allow for an up-close view of the area's top natural features.
What to Expect

Be ready for early-morning pickup at your hotel in Alice Springs, where you’ll climb into a climate-controlled tour vehicle and head for West MacDonnell National Park.

Once you arrive, stretch your legs with the day’s first walk at Simpsons Gap, where you’ll stop at a natural rock amphitheater, home to the rare black-footed wallaby. Move on to Sandley Chasm, where you’ll refresh yourself with morning tea and a stroll under the acacias, ghost gums, and cypress pines. At the Ochre Pits, learn about the history of the location as a sacred ceremony site for the Arrernte people.

At Ormiston Gorge, sit down for a picnic lunch by the water hole. Dig in while watching for local water birds such as the white-faced heron and the Pacific heron. Back in the vehicle, drive over to the Mt. Sonder lookout, one of Central Australia’s highest points, for epic views and photo ops. Then, cool off with a sim at Ellery Creek Big Hole, one of Australia’s most pristine, and learn about the geology of the hole through your guide’s commentary.

The day’s last activity, available as an upgrade in October through March, is a camel ride during sunset. Return to Alice Springs for drop-off.
