I'm so glad I booked this! I had originally booked the lava hike, but had to go on the Twilight tour due to lack of overland flow at the time. The tour guide really knew his stuff and made a big effort to make everyone...More
Begin your tour with a morning pickup from select hotels. Meet your guide, board the vehicle, and head out to see two of the world's largest volcanoes, Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa.
After lunch at Mauna State Park, continue east toward Hilo to explore a lava tube and learn how its passages once carried molten rock from Mauna Loa's upper rift zones to the ocean.
Next, it's on to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the park is home to Kilauea, an active volcano. Your guide leads your group on hikes throughout the afternoon and, if Kilauea is erupting, takes you to prime viewing spots.
When Kilauea isn't erupting, walk the summit caldera and peer down steam vents. Then explore trails through the native rainforest before heading to see active lava glowing at dusk.
After a picnic-style dinner, your tour concludes back at your pickup point.
Our family of 3 booked this trip so we could have a guide explain what we will see. Taj is a passionate guide. He explains as he drove along, and when we hike about the national park. Unfortunately, the weather wasn't good that day and...More
