- 791aidanw0 contributionsA Must on your Visitor list4 of us visited Bunratty Castle and Folk Park on Monday 29th. September 2020 and it was wonderful. My Wife and I have been here many times but for my Niece and her Partner, it was their first time, as Adults. Our visit to the cottages - on our way to the castle, gave a realistic perceptive on how the Irish lived in times gone by. Then to the Castle - proudly standing since the 15th. Century-and greeted by Chris, in period costume, who gave a comprehensive and beautifully voiced history of the Castle. Then up the spiral staircase to the Great Hall - with all its 15th. Century artefacts - and greeted by Anja-in period costume too, who gave us the history of that part of the castle. Finally we toured the Folk Park and Village and encountered donkies, pigs, Irish Wolfhounds and most of all - hand sanitizers, one way systems etc-safety during this pandemic. Thank you Pauline, Aileen, Michael, Aodhán, Anja and Chris for a most memorable day. Míle BuíochasWritten 30 September 2020
- tracquan0 contributionsUnfortunate ExperienceMy family and I planned our dream trip to Ireland last year and it was unfortunately cancelled twice (once in March and again in May) due to the COVID global health crisis. Given that we have no foreseeable date to reschedule due to safety concerns for our daughter who is a bone marrow and stem cell transplant patient, I contacted Shannon Heritage to request a refund of our Bunratty Castle admission costs for my husband, myself, daughter, and son. They were very quick with their reply which is the only positive thing I can relay. They were adamant about their "no refunds" policy even in the wake of a pandemic. They offered to "hold" the admission for 12 months however, we are not able to currently begin to rebook the trip and the likelihood, given our children's school schedule and our work schedules of rebooking the trip is very low. I understand having a policy in place but I am certain that policy was not written with the effects of a global pandemic in mind. A bit of compassion and awareness for something other than their profits would have been appreciated. Other attractions, such as the Cliff of Moher, offered full refunds without hesitation. If we ever do get lucky enough to rebook this trip, we will not be visiting any of the Shannon Heritage attractions.Written 22 April 2020
- 268terryw0 contributionsExcellent attraction near DublinVery enjoyable visit to Malahide castle. The Tablot family resided there from the 12th century to the 1970s. Aidan was an excellent tour guide and gave a lot of context to the castle & it’s contents. Highly recommend a visit for a historical & political perspective of Ireland.Written 4 January 2020
- claretashia0 contributionsSanta VisitI visited Santa today at Bunratty with my partner and five year old son. To me its a money racket!! €62.50 and then asked to pay another €20 on top of that for photos. I mean since when did visiting Santa not INCLUDE a photo this is a total rip off. I wudnt recommend this place at all. It’s all outside and far too cold. There is nothing different to see. Won’t be back again !!😡😡Written 21 December 2019
- i-do-love-vacations-0 contributionsGPO MuseumA fantastic museum, the history and information is delivered in a clear, engaging and well organised way. The high quality of the exhibits and audio visual elements add to the experience. The most iconic building at the heart of the cause for Irish Independence, the birthplace of the Republic. Also theres childrens activities and a café there so you can bring all the family. 10 out of 10.Written 10 December 2019
- SueR13270 contributionsWell worth the visitGreat day at Bunratty with the folk village - very informative, with lots to see and do. Although aimed at tourists it is still entertaining and definitely did not feel ripped off.Written 9 December 2019
- jmel9030 contributionsSuper insight to 1916 RisingIf you want a really good insight to the 1916 Rising, this museum is a must see! Located in the GPO (which was the focal point of the Rebellion) you can spend hours taking in the excellent guided tour, the panoramic movie experience, the huge range of artefacts and the many interactive videos!.... The well appointed museum really does a super job bringing this significant point in Irish history to life! ... Thoroughly enjoyed my visit!Written 25 November 2019
- Capecodboy20 contributionsWorth the TimeThe castle is lots of fun, but the real highlight of this stop is the folk park. So much to see which gives a hands on experience of the history. What a great surprise, as we were just going for the castle. A real gem.Written 23 November 2019
- Jim46800 contributionsAn impressive tourWe went to Malahide Castle for a tour on the last day of our Irish holiday. I didn't realise that it went back so far - to the Normans and the first Talbot family. There were some very unique historical artifacts in the castle and the description of how the first inhabitants only lived in a single small room was fascinating. I am a total sceptic when it comes to the supernatural, but while in the second hall (not the dark one) I was conscious of somebody tugging on my leather jacket. I looked around quickly but nobody was near me. I didn't say anything about it, but smiled at the fact that my imagination was making me think of ghosts, but my rational side kept it quiet. Then in the final room, the guide started talking about the ghosts that people had been seeing. I'm still not convinced, but I have no explanation for what happened and I'm not going to offer one. I only told my wife about it a couple of weeks later.Written 14 October 2019

Not acceptable ! Arrived at this event for my mothers 80th birthday as this was her choice of celebration only to be informed that event was cancelled !!! We had booked hotel nearby at a cost of 440 euro and not eaten all day as we were expecting to eat at the banquet ! My mother was so disappointed.. not to mention the expense of travelling and staying there in the vicinity .. had no notification of cancellation! Still awaiting to hear from the organisers

My husband and I wanted to treat our adult children and their partners to a fun night out together. What a huge disappointment this banquet turned out to be. We have both gone together many times in the past and always enjoyed the food and entertainment. This event has gone seriously downhill. Firstly the food was dreadful, my family will eat anything but after we left they all ordered pizzas as they couldn't eat the food given during the meal. The ribs were dry with a spoon of jar topping, the brown bread was still in the plastic wrapper, the only saving grace was the soup. Even the show seems to have been shortened. Overall after paying 80 euro each I was hughly upset at wasting our money at Bunratty. I can understand it's appeal to visitors as it is unusual and the castle is very interesting but for us that is where it stopped. We should have gone to a nice restaurant in town for a good meal and a few drinks which would have probably cost half the price. Please get your food and entertainment standards back to where they were.

Had some friends from Canada visit & went on this tour. I lived nearby for years & never went to the banquet. Really enjoyed the performance. Characters were great, music was lovely & the jokes were also on point. Everyone had a great night.

Yes it’s touristy and cheesy but it’s also a must do in the region. A few pints in Nellies and a wander round the excellent Folk Park and you’ve had a great day.

This attraction is a must. Food was incredible along with the entertainment. Jim did a great job as the lead, taking what was going on at our table and using it to create a fun-filled atmosphere. My wife and I were chosen to be the Earl and Lady of the castle, so it was even more enjoyable! Our driver, Austin was the one who set us up to be chosen! Great stop on CIE Tours!

We’re jaded travelers who have been to several medieval banquets. This one is in a real castle- a plus, but be sure you can climb a spiral staircase. The musicians are excellent. The meal was good, not great: puréed vegetable soup, bread, tasty spare ribs, chicken and root vegetables, and apple cheesecake dessert, all to be eaten by hand. The table was very crowded. I was frequently bumped by the servers because the tables were so close together. The benches have no backs so be sure you can sit for 2 hours in that situation.

The banquet combines authenticity, professionalism and warmth. Jim the charismatic butler, managed the entire sitting so well and cleverly - with the essential element of Irish tongue-in-cheek humour . The ladies of the castle did a wonderful job serving, interacting with guests and then performing so beautifully . Although I have visited many times, there is always a freshness to the event - enhanced by new songs and music. Our party of ten, celebrating a significant birthday, all enjoyed it thoroughly.

The entertainment was very professional with great acting and beautiful singing. Our server, Vivian, had a splendid voice and was very accommodating with our meal. We ate with only a knife. The ribs and chicken were good as was the soup. The Irish harp and violin players were quite skilled. All in all, a good time was had by all. The castle is interesting and lends a great atmosphere to the entire evening.

There are two times. I think for families , the earlier time would be better. However, there were a few families at the later time if that is the only one available. Food was excellent.
