Visit Dovrefjell National Park in search of the elusive Norwegian musk ox on this hiking tour. You can the trail navigation to your guide, focusing your attention on the the park's alpine scenery. You’ll hear about the native flora and fauna as you walk. Your guide knows exactly where and how to spot these huge, docile beasts, giving you the best chance of seeing them in their natural habitat.
What to Expect
Meet your guide and group in Oppdal in the morning, then drive independently to the start of the hike at the entrance to Dovrefjell National Park. Bring extra layers of clothing to accommodate the changing weather, as well as your own lunch.
For the next five to seven hours, follow your guide on the park's trails, keeping an eye out for mountain grouse and reindeer. Enjoy the peace and quiet and the spectacular scenery, punctuated by your guide's commentary on the local flora and fauna.
You'll head for the best possible spots to see the musk ox, planned in advance by your guide. These huge animals may first appear as brown rocks—until they move. Learn about the animals' biology and behavior while getting as close as safety allows for great photos.
Midday, take a break to enjoy the lunch you've brought and coffee provided by your guide.

It was very good

It was very good planing we start walking with no path on the tundra and we back with a fast trail. We see many musks and some fo them very close. We have very goo too guids and the explanations was very intarasting.

Highlight of our Trip

Great tour

We had a safari on August 7 and were lucky.18 degrees and sunny. Our guides split us in 2 groups and fortunately we saw 13 muskoxes. Some pretty close by. The guides told us much about the various plants and wildlife. In total the trip...More

I believe you can travel in the guide's car, if you don't have your own car. But number of people would perhaps be limited to two/three?
