Evening Husky Sled Ride in Tromso
From US$238,30
Experience two classic Norwegian activities in a single tour: a husky-drawn sled ride and a peek at the famous Northern Lights. It's easy to squeeze these two activities into one evening when all the details are taken care of, including provided thermal suits and a dinner of traditional reindeer stew. You'll learn about the tradition of dogsledding in Norway and the science and mystery behind the phenomenon of the Aurora Borealis.
What to Expect
Meet your guide and group in the evening at a central location in Tromso, where you'll climb into a comfortable tour bus and take off for the countryside, about 30 minutes away. Once you arrive at the dog yard, get outfitted with a super-warm thermal suit, boots, gloves, and a hat to fight off the Arctic air. After a brief introduction, step aboard the dog sled and let the experienced musher take you on an evening ride into the Norwegian winter landscape.

Listen to your guide's commentary and keep watch for the elusive Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights), which are best seen way out in the wilderness where no light pollution can spoil the views. You'll learn about the mystery behind their appearance and what conditions make for the best viewing.

After a little less than an hour, return to the dog yard and spend some time visiting with the pack of more than 350 tough working dogs, including puppies being trained for the trade. After your time with the dogs, head inside for a dinner of traditional bidos (reindeer stew; vegetarian option available) before heading back to town.
