About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Jodi06160 contributionsEpic! We had a great experience climbing the glacier with this tour group and Casper and Hjani, our guides. They ended up with a really big group and did a great job of making sure everyone was safe, knew what to do, and had fun! I highly recommend this experience!Written 8 July 2023
- lmcg930 contributionsGlacier walkDid a glacier walk recently with this company and they were absolutely amazing. It was part of a school trip and the kids absolutely loved it! Our guide Sigurpáll was so good with the kids, really knowledgeable and made our experience even better!Written 11 April 2023
- zealotworld0 contributionsIncredible waterfall ice climbing experienceMy boyfriend and I joint the private waterfall ice climbing tour and it's just amazing! This is our first time ice climbing. Our super friendly+professional local mountain guide Robert share us the technique in detail 🏔️🪓. We spent an incredible day on the mountain and reached a 75 metre waterfall. Feeling so small in the face of nature and yet so much joy to be a part of it. I will definitely come again and recommend this incredible tour to any adventurers 👊👊👊Written 9 February 2023
- WhiteyPNJW0 contributionsSuperb glacier walkHad a superb glacier walk on the Solheimajokull with Asgard, our guide was knowledgeable, explained all the safety equipment well and took us to some fantastic parts on the snout of the glacierWritten 27 October 2019
- DAW_Surrey0 contributionsAmazing ExperienceOur family of 4 were collected from our hotel by our experienced guide SIGURÐUR-PÁLL and driven to the base of Solheimajokull. After a safety briefing we got kitted up with climbing helmet, ice pick, harness, boots and cramp ons. Although we had our own walking boots, the boots provided for wearing cramp ons are more suited to the task. The glacier is ice but at the start has a lot of volcanic ash which is unique to iceland. All the way Siggur-Paul explained the science, geology and gave us practical tips to walking and climbing on ice and was always attentive. We moved away from the other hikers and ended up in our own space which felt like we were totally isolated. As we were confident, Siggur-Paul set up ropes and we absailed/ climbed an ice cliff. We also got to drink pure glacial melt water - the coolest water there is! A brilliant day and a huge thank you to our guide. Trip is suitable for teenagers and adults and you need to be in reasonable shape. The temperature can drop suddenly if the wind blows. Respect the wind chill. Bring hat, gloves, jacket and wear layers. Still air temperature was surprisingly pleasantWritten 9 August 2019
- smile1330 contributionsAmazing TripFantastic two days & travelled in a comfortable & clean Mercedes van. Stopping when we wanted, hiking into incredible sites & massive waterfalls, having exclusive access for the best parking. Providing extra raincoats & hiking boots. Our guide was very professional & so personal / friendly & has extensive knowledge about glaciers. Telling us about Iceland & their proud history. He went the extra mile to ensure we were always safe and informed about the area's we visited.Written 5 July 2019
- Jane J0 contributionsExcellent ice climbing tour!We went to ice climbing tour with Asgard Beyond and the guide is very professional and he shared a lot of knowledge of the glacier. The guest to guide ratio is 2:1 (or max. 4:1) and we had plenty of time to explore around the glacier, take photos and enjoy ice climbing. It is really fun!!! Best tour experience in my iceland trip!!Written 19 May 2019
- Miriam B0 contributionsExcellentIt was a lovely day with Berger! He was very informative and it was a once in a lifetime experience! He picked us up promptly and made the day flow smoothly and wonderfully. 100% would recommend.Written 15 May 2019
- rnworsley0 contributionsIce climbing! Thanks Asgard for great memories really was fantastic! Berger (sorry spelt wrong ) was great and pushed us when we need motivation lol personal touch with Asgard and like anything in life you get what you pay for ! Well worth it thank youWritten 9 April 2019
- ytchikkk0 contributionsThe best tour and the best guide and the best experience!Joined the small group glacier hike on Solheimajokull, with guide Svavar (sorry if I spell your name wrong). The weather was a big surprise to us with a bit of snow and it was so beautiful! Svavar took care of us very well. He led us in a slow pace so we could enjoy the gorgeous view and take a lot of photos. A good side of joining a small group is that we were hiking uphill of the glacier where not many other travellers around us, so we kind of enjoyed the glacier all to ourselves haha...We also went to see the "glacier canyon" and trust me it was amazing! Svavar is very professional and he also shared valuable knowledge about glaciers and Iceland. It was not just a glacier hiking, but a memorable experience after all!Written 24 March 2019
- Eric B0 contributionsIce climbing/glacier hikingLook no further for an excursion to the glaciers. Asgard Beyond is the top of the field. Experienced and knowledgable guides (thanks Jon) for an unforgetable adventure. Top quality equipment. Extremely professional and friendly which helps you feel completely safe. Highly recommended for a memory of a lifetime that you won’t forget.Written 28 February 2019
- Rehnwest0 contributionsAMAZING experience with Asgard! We booked the ice climbing/hiking trip on Jan. 26. Our guide was Ragnar. The trip was nothing short of amazing and I would book again and again in a heartbeat. The day started with Ragnar picking us up from our Airbnb. We ended up being the only 2 on the tour which was super cool and private but I know they also do groups of 4 which wouldn’t change my review even if there were 4. We drove 2.5 hours with a service stop on the way to pick up any snacks if needed. Once we arrived, we got set up with our gear and were always given instructions on how to work everything. We took our time walking up the glacier and practicing or ice climbing skills. Ragnar is the best guide we’ve ever worked with, he let us take our time and the whole experience was customized to our level. Ragnar is also extremely knowledgeable and filled us in on all things iceland and glacier related. He also took the time to let us enjoy climbing experiences that we would not be able to do with the larger tour groups. We plan to book with Asgard again when we visit in the summer season. Book now!!! It’s worth every penny! 100% a once in a lifetime experience. Thanks Ragnar & Asgard Beyond!!! Rehn & BrettWritten 26 January 2019
- Geraldine W0 contributionsGeraldine WilsonThoroughly enjoyed the day . Ragnar our guide was lovely and it was also very reassuring to know he was part of the mountain rescue team. He gave us a great insight in the glacier explaining its movement, crevasses, holes, rock formation in the in shaped valley so we felt we got a good understanding of the glacier . He took us on a beautiful big loop on the glacier and was interesting , courteous and highly competent . When I snagged my Crampon’s and fell with a hard bang on the ice , he helped me stay calm and helped me down the steep bits . Highly recommend the day hike - we had about a 4 hour hike and it was one of the most special memories in my life 👍Written 3 December 2018

This was one of the experiences at the top of my list. The view of and on the glacier was breathtaking! Our tour guide ‘Bright’ was super lovely and informative and very passionate for his role. A lot of hiking until we got to climb up and down an ice wall, which was an unforgettable experience. One of the best tours during my time in Iceland.

The 'Ice Climbing and Glacier Hiking' day tour with Asgard Beyond was definitely the highlight of my trip to Iceland!
I got picked up from my Reykjavik hotel and off we went to the South of Iceland to take on Sólheimajökull glacier.
We got all kitted out with a harness, crampons and helmet, went over safety features before we set foot on the glacier. Our brilliant! guide Gulli was extremely knowledgeable and made us all feel very safe.
Let me tell you walking on a glacier is quite strenuous, but those crampons certainly do their job!
Reaching the top, it was wonderful to see the raw and unspoilt beauty of Iceland and you really do get to appreciate what is around you.
At the end of our hike, we came across an ice cave at the top of the glacier covered with black volcano ash. Inside, it was a crystalline universe waiting to be discovered.
Seeing the ice cave and Sólheimajökull glacier, these mesmerising natural wonders in person, was an unforgettable day. Thumbs up to Asgard Beyond for this INCREDIBLE bucket list experience!
The hike itself lasted around three hours, but it was a full day tour. The journey to Sólheimajökull from Reykjavik took approximately 2.5 hours each way.
We took a quick scenic stop at the magnificent Skógafoss waterfall, before we returned to Reykjavik.
Asgard Beyond is your expert for a knowledgable, safe and incredibly memorable hiking experience. They tailor-make trips for small groups aiming to make your dream day tour come true in the Icelandic wilderness. They provide all equipment and hiking boots for you.
Cannot recommend highly enough!

Thank you so much for the feedback on your Ice climbing tour with Asgard. Our tours are always operated in such a manner that all guests enjoy every aspect of it, that is the main reason why our groups are always so small, which allows us to pickup all our guests at their hotels, but not bus-stops around the City.
Gulli sure is a gem, and a fantastic guide that we are extremely fortunate to have. Its great to hear that Gulli managed to show you the Ice cave on the glacier, we are always so grateful when we have caves forming on the ice, and it sounds like your group enjoyed all of the attractions.
Providing all the gear (free of charge) is indeed of great value, both for comfort and safety which is always our focus on all Asgard tours.
If you ever find yourself in Iceland again, you know where to find us.
We do appreciate your time spent with us. Thank you.
Sincerely
Ragnar

I'm glowing after this trip! Our guide Kiddi collected us in Reykjavík then our day began. We were kitted out with really good boots and weather gear and crampons (first time I ever wore them but he taught me so well i felt so comfortable)
When we arrived at the glacier I almost cried because it was so breathtaking! There was some bits that were a bit hairy because I am scared of heights but our guide was always so kind and calm and I felt totally safe the entire time. He told us stories and facts and was so knowledgeable.
We had harnesses and everything and so did some ice climbing, which was amazing. Kiddi chose a place I could challenge myself but still feel safe but there was much taller ones if you were already at a higher level and felt comfortable doing it. All in all we had a mind blowing day and this trip would be worth coming to Iceland for by itself. There was only 3 of us with the one guide so we were so well attended on, we saw another company with heaps of people, I real feel this trip was worth every krona. Thankyou so so much! Xx

Wow!
Thank you so much for your amazing feedback and all the kind words. Since you were lucky enough to go out and explore with Kiddi, I´m not surprised you had a fantastic day out. How lucky are we to have him on our team of Asgardians??? Everything you mention makes us very proud, but the fact that you say this trip would be worth coming to Iceland for, really blows our mind. Again, thank you so much for taking the time to share your Asgard experience with others. We really appreciate it. If you ever find yourself in Iceland again (which we hope) or if you have friends coming over, you know where to find us...Safe travels.

This was one of our favourite experiences on our trip.
We'd purposefully booked with Asgard for the smaller group size (and we were fortunate that it was only us two in the end) and for the longer time on the ice. It was most definitely the right decision! The waterfall afterwards is a nice little addition too.
Our guide, Kiddi, was fantastic. I can't praise him enough. Calm, unflappable and knowledgeable. I always felt safe with him, and he dealt with my nervousness at abseiling with such patience. Encouraging, but without ever forcing me to do something I wasn't comfortable with. Good briefing before trying ice climbing and helpful tips to improve. He had a good knowledge of the glacier too, and the smaller group meant we could get off the beaten track and were often walking in untouched snow. Such breathtaking views!

Thank you soooo much Nicola, for your kind words!
Believe me, they´re especially valuable now, if you know what I mean.
I really love the fact that you picked Asgard as your adventure provider, due to the smaller group size. We whole heartedly believe that´s the way to experience new places and activities. With few people and a fantastic guide.
Happy to hear you met Kiddi, he´s a star. We are extremely lucky to have him on our team. It´s an art, to go off the beaten track without leaving a trace.
Again, thank you for taking the time to share your Asgard experience. Be safe, and if you ever find yourselves in Iceland again, you know where to find us:-)

I took my 10 year old son to Iceland and the ice climbing tour was the thing he was most excited for from the day we started planning the trip. The experience did not disappoint. Thor was our tour guide, and he was amazing. He was super kind and patient explaining all of the things my very inquisitive son had questions about. He was very encouraging and patient as my son struggled up one of the climb. You can just tell when a person is used to dealing with kids and can engage on their level, and he really made the experience perfect for my son. And he was just easy to talk to. I have climbing experience from the past and he coached me through a few more technical techniques while I was climbing too.
I couldn't recommend this adventure more.

Thanks so much for sharing your Asgard experience!
We are stoked to hear you had such good time ice cimbing with your son. What a wonderful dad, to plan this for you and your 10 year old. We´re sure he´ll not forget the experience any time soon. Ice climbing on an Icelandic glacier. That along with the personal challence of ice climbing surely is something to remember. We´re so glad you got along well with Thor. In fact, it would be hard not to. Lucky us to have him on our team.
Again, we really appreciate your kind words, and we thrive on happy guests. You float our boat. Thank you.

My wife and I lucked out as we were the only people touring that day and wound up with essentially a private tour. Our guide Sigurpáll A., was absolutely fantastic! He was extremely friendly, knowledgeable and made us feel safe. The glacier was beautiful and Sigurpáll found a great moulin for us to climb up. He thought us sa the basics on how to climb, was very encouraging and gave us a most memorable experience.

Gaddi guided three of us - my wife and I, plus another visitor - for a stunning ice climb and glacier hike on Sólheimajökull. Asgard Beyond was incredibly professional and responsive beginning with the booking process. Our guide, Gaddi, was super experienced on the glacier, instructive on climbing technique for us noobies, and ensured that during our 5+ hours together we had a laid-back and personalized experience. We felt we got our money's worth: high-quality customer service and equipment, a highly knowledgeable guide, and a gorgeous (and challenging!) glacier excursion.

Awesome small-group (we were 3 + guide), personalized experience that you probably won't get with any of those other 20-people ice climbing tours you see around! After a short intro we were able to test our skills on a few climbs of different difficulty so everybody was properly challenged and also able to work on technique (and actually learn some ice climbing basics).
Ragnar (our guide) was great, very knowledgeable and always ready to provide some in-depth info on ice climbing and Iceland in general. No matter if you just want to try ice climbing once or are actually looking for a short but more in-depth introduction to it, this is the way to go!

Thanks so much for catching the essence of Asgard!!!! This is exactly who we try to be and what we want to stand for. Small groups, personal service and outstanding guides is what we represent. So happy to hear you enjoyed your your climbing day out on Sólheimajökull with Ragnar. He is one of Asgard owners and a fantastic professional. You could hardly have been in better hands. I really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience with us and others. Really, it can be hard to try to stand out in the crowd, but a comment like yours surely helps with motivation and the desire to become better at what we do moment by moment...

On our honeymoon we wanted to be active and do something a little different from the "normal" experience. Jon was a great guide for our day on the glacier. We had never been ice climbing before but quickly picked up the basics. Jon was a great teacher of climbing and traversing the glacier, as well as the nature and history of glaciers in Iceland.

How amazing to get the chance to be a part of your honeymoon in Iceland:-) We highly appreciate you newlyweds trusting us to to deliver an ice climbing experience to remember. Jón is one of our very best, so not so surprised you had a good time with him. He also has some years of experience behind him, so you were in super good hands. I think I remember the weather was not co-operative that day, so hat off for you guys. You did amazing. Thank you so much for taking the time to share your Asgard experience with future travellers. It means the world to us. Really hope you enjoyed the rest of your honeymoon in Iceland, and bring home some nice memories for the future. If you ever find yourselves in Iceland again (for anniversaries for example:-), you know where to find us.
