Best way to start an Iceland trip - fun and delicious tour
What a fun and delicious tour we had with Bergur. Felt like hanging out with a local friend, had great laughs and we were also mesmerized about all the facts on Icelandic culture, his personal stories and experiences, the music scene and cool facts. Bergur was just AMAZING and the food, incredible. I was worried it would be too much food but it was perfect, even had the fermented shark which was good fun.

    Food tour , Top guide
Dina, wow, what a host, full of smiles and energy, really informative about food traditions and methods of cooking, a great host in each restaurant and got the whole group enjoying the experience together. The diversity of food we tried was great, the venues varied and the historical tour of the area was fabulous! Thank you Dina for making our memories..... Cheers

Northern lights, Arni is the best
Amazing, I book the tour for the Northern Lights the first night I arrived to Iceland but we didn't have good luck. I called the agency again next day to ask for a second chance and they did, this time our tour guide was Arni, he is simply the best, Arni is very passionate about his job, he keeps people entertained from the very beginning, he takes the time to take good pictures( best part, he takes as many pictures as we want) and luckily to make our night perfect the lights gave us a beautiful show, or like Arni says, be positive and we'll have a wonderful night! And yes he was right. Thank you for rescheduling a second time my tour and especially, thank you Arni for your dedication and wonderful work.

Golden Circle -Amazing Tour - highly recommend
We booked all our tours through Wake Up Reykjavik and found them to be very helpful. We received confirmation of each tour and the pick up stop. Our guide for the Golden Circle tour was Smari and he was informative, friendly and very helpful. At each stop, he gave us information and we had plenty of time at each place. Lunch at the Tomato Farm was amazing and I can highly recommend this tour and Wake Up Reykjavik.

Thor: God of Food (Intro to Icelandic Food)
We had a wonderful tour with Thor! He was very clear, organized and kept us on time. We never felt rushed, was very patient and enjoyed sharing time with everyone in the group. We went to 5 restaurants that really represented local foods of Iceland. There was a vegetarian in our group but it seems that each restaurant could accommodate for this. My favorite by far is Sjávargrillið . I've never had Langoustine that was so tender. Fermented Shark is certainly not as bad as I thought especially with a shot of local Vodka. This tour was such a great introduction to Iceland since this was our first trip. No book can provide you with a good understanding of Rekyavik/ Iceland in general.

Failed as a food tour but great on culture
The tour guide (Brinn -sp?) was delightful. She was bubbly and welcoming and full of great stories. I learned a lot about Icelandic culture. Unfortunately, this wasn’t a culture tour, it was a food and drink tour and it failed at that. This is NOT a tour for people who are serious about food. We had two interesting dishes at one restaurant, a taco at a pub, and carrot cake at a hole in the wall. It was paired with a glass of generic red or white wine and choice of beers. This did nothing to expose my tastebuds to the amazing culinary scene in Iceland. Very disappointing.

Must do food tour in Iceland!
The food tour is a must try for tasting Icelandic cuisine, especially those who don’t have a lot of time to explore the city. Disa was the perfect guide! Very knowledgable and extremely engaging with the group. She is so well versed with the cuisine of the group as well and it was interesting to hear personal anecdotes and historical details on Icelandic cuisine.

    Beholden by the Northern Lights
Toby did a fantastic job hosting a small group (16ppl) of us. He set expectations in the beginning and emphasized to be patient. Our unified patience and Toby's decision to listen to his intuition and guide us to a second location allowed my partner and I an opportunity of a lifetime! The Northern Lights were ours to behold.

    Great experience
Loved this food tour! Burger our guide ( not real name but I couldn’t even try to spell or pronounce it) was charming, informative and funny, the food we had was delicious, but Burger also tells you about Icelandic life and it was all interesting; I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it

    Very overpriced. Poor portions.Tasteless!
We visited about 5 restaurants and all of them was disappointing Especially that place called Meze. 🤦🏻‍♂️ That’s probably the worst experience I ever had in my entire life! How they at all allowed to be there. Probably there’s no control of quality of food if you can call it food at all! Avoid it! Islenski Barinn restaurant was good , the only place where you can eat.

I had booked this tour on a whim 2 hours before the meeting time as my group headed out to ice climbing & I had a whole day to myself. I researched a little bit & realized that this tour was going to hit all the food places I had wanted to try, so it would be easier to just do this with a guide, instead of me trying to navigate a new city on my own.

Our guide Eyglo was simply wonderful. She was very kind and patient, waited an extra 10 minutes for the late comers before we started the tour, as well as wanting to make sure we enjoy the experience as not to rush us along even though we started running about 30 minutes behind at our 2nd to last stop. Eyglo made everyone feel at ease & made the entire tour feel like you are simply grabbing some really good food with a friend that you haven't had a chance to catch up with in awhile.

Food tour is a great way to get to know a city, & I would highly recommend this one.

I cannot say enough good things about this tour. I will start with how incredible and responsive the staff is about any questions or concerns you may have. We had 1 afternoon available in order to do the tour on our visit. Unfortunately the only slot open started at 12:30 and their 1:30 slot was not open for that day. Since we had already booked a lava tube tour for that morning we were afraid we may not make it back in time. Therefore, I emailed and asked their advice if they felt we would be able to make it. Their response time was incredible and just so we wouldn't stress, they were able to open the 1:30 time slot to fit us in. Already a great feeling and haven't even started the tour.
The tour itself is Amazing! The food is delicious and believe me you will not leave hungry - these are good size portions with a very relaxed atmosphere. Our guide, Gudny was extremely knowledgeable, personable and would answer any question whether food related or not.
What makes this tour stand out even more is the fact that while you are walking around from restaurant to restaurant you get a mini tour of the city. I learned so many fun facts about Reykjavik - it really is 2 tours in one. For those who are wondering the walking was not difficult and not once do you feel rushed. Please book this tour, you will not regret it, and ask for Gudny.

Went on the Food Walk tour on the 2nd of March with our guide Eyglo
She is an amazing guide with a wealth of knowledge of all things Icelandic and a wonderful personality.
Loved all the food but didn’t try the shark due to the smell and the reactions of other people on the tour.
Loved all the other food especially the Artic Char with honey and Almonds at Messin and the Dessert at Apotec
I would highly recommend the Reykjavik Food Walk tour with Eyglo as your guide,it was so much fun with delicious food and the walking was a wonderful way to introduce you to the city of Reykjavik

My partner and I took our first food tour in 2016 and were eager to return as Iceland began to reopened. I’m happy to report that the experience was and is as enjoyable and flavorful as ever. We were Dave’s first solo tour and he did an exceptional job. With a mish mash of Americans from various places and stages of life, he was able to connect with everyone and facilitate an engaging experience. The evening tour we took was a bit different than our initial afternoon based experience, but still thoroughly entertaining. It definitely centers on icelandic cuisine so expect fish and lamb aplenty! Some of the restaurants were new but others were a welcome return, so all in all a good mix. Dan also went above and beyond for us behind the Scenes by making restaurant recommendations and booking a special birthday reservation for us!
Egill remains a 🤴🏻! Whether this is your first or tenth visit to Reykjavík, this is the food tour you should do.

I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Reykjavik, it was a great way to try a variety of the local cuisine. You better go hungry though as you get generous portions at each of the 5 different stops. Maggie did an awesome job and we appreciated the recap of the restaurants and other helpful information she provided.

We had an amazing food tour with Wake Up Reykjavik! The food selected for the visit was top notch and with Ben as our guide, we had an informative, entertaining and simply enjoyable tour of food and the city. I highly recommend the Reykjavik food Walk to get a sample of Icelandic cuisine (lamb, fish, and other treats - my favorite was the dessert at the very last stop) and tour some wonderful sights around the city- an easy way to kill two birds with one stone! If the price of the food tour is at all a deterrent, don’t let it be, you will get enough food to fill you up and I’m sure you would not be able to get this variety at this cost in any other way.
I like doing food tours as a way of getting acquainted with a city, and this is one of my absolute favorites after the many I have been on - we had a great guide and food!

Food! Is there a better way to explore and get to know a new place, a new culture, a new country?

The Reykjavik Food Walk is a perfect way to spend a few hours exploring the city and sampling the cuisine. Three-hours may seem like a lot, but the time flew by.

Our guide for the day was Karen, who was so friendly, open and funny. She was an excellent guide. We stopped off at five locations.

Our group sampled a variety of things, including the (in)famous fermented shark and the cod jerky. Both were quirky and something that tourists just need to sample.

However, the best dishes (for me) were the classic and rustic plokkfiskur (fish mash), rye bread ice-cream and a local beer.

My husband and I loved the plokkfiskur so much, we went back and had it a second time during our trip.

Many thanks to Karen and the Reykjavik Food Walk for a great time.

We took the tour today and I have to say it was the most wonderful and delightful experience, and certainly enhanced our visit to this amazing country. The eateries we visited were very well chosen and I believe reflected exactly what the tour promotes. However, it has to be said that a tour of any kind can be significantly effected by the guide, and today we were fortunate to have Tinna. She provide so much information on the history and culture of Iceland and it's food that we definately understood about the meals and ingredients, not just the flavours, which were by the way superb. This included some personal family stories to explain key elements that we may not otherwise have understood as fully. We learnt so much and enjoyed the variety of food and the culture over hundreds of years and were all the richer for it. Nothing was too much trouble as we made our way through each course and specific dietery needs and requests were met with ease and care. Iceland is known for its fire and ice, but today took us beyond that in a way I was not expecting. I will go back to England in a few days time very much more informed about a wonderful country and it's people with a passion and desire to return and experience it all again.

We joined the Food Walk on our first day in Reykjavík and it proved an ideal intro to the city and to some of the variety of food which it offers. Liked the fish and the hotdog and the ice cream but everything we were offered was worth sampling. Eyglo, our guide, also found time to tell us some interesting facts about life in Iceland and we learned a little about which restaurants we might subsequently wish to visit. It was fun to meet others visiting Reykjavík too and hear their experiences, Highly recommended!
