About
With its enormous, ancient icebergs, the Jökulsárlón Glacial Lagoon is a natural wonder of Iceland and a sight you absolutely cannot miss. The lagoon produces a feeling of incredible tranquility as the 1000-1500 year-old ice that has broken away from Vatnajokull Glacier silently drifts into the lake and slowly melts away. As you take a walk along the shore, you may recognize the lagoon from scenes out of famous movies such as Batman Begins, Tomb Raider, and two James Bond movies that were filmed here. This 14-hour, guided tour is shared traveling by bus, including a 30-minute boat ride.

What to expect
  • Start your day with pickup from Reykjavik’s bus terminal or your central city hotel (select hotels only). Then, settle inside your shared, air-conditioned coach and venture out of the city toward Iceland’s south. Your day-long tour includes two rest stops where you can purchase foods and drinks (own expense). Soak in the stark, volcanic landscapes as you travel, and hear information about Iceland’s geography and history from your guide. Pass some of Iceland’s most notable landmarks, such as its highest peak, Hvannadalshnjukur; and stop at two of its most beautiful waterfalls. Visit picturesque Seljalandsfoss fall, a 197-foot (60-meter) cascade plunging from a rocky cliff. Take in this natural wonder, and if you wish, walk the footpath behind the cascade (depending on conditions) for photos of the rushing water from behind. Stop, too, at the much-photographed and similarly high Skogafoss waterfall, and pass volcanic Skaftafell National Park and a stunning black-sand desert as you approach Jokulsarlon lagoon. On arrival, take a stroll by the shore to absorb your extraordinary surroundings. Covering seven square miles (18 square kilometres), this expanse of still, blue waters is dotted with icebergs that have broken from the nearby Vatnajokull Glacier and are estimated to be between 1,000 and 1,500 years old. The resulting scenery has made the lagoon a popular backdrop for movies, with scenes from blockbusters such as Batman Begins andTomb Raider, as well as two James Bond films having been shot here. After your walk, take a 30-minute cruise on the lake. Glide close to the immense icebergs to admire them from the sightseeing deck, and learn how they gradually melt into the chilly waters. Finally, drive back to Reykjavik where your tour ends at the original starting point. Please note: this is a shared tour with up to 150 guests traveling by coach.

Wonderful tour with Reykjavik Excursions
Feb 2020
The tour was absolutely incredible. The tour leader and the Driver, both made our day.
its a long day tour almost 13-14 hours, but both were absolutely brilliant all day.while returning back, they stooped for us to show the northern lights , though it was not the part of the tour. A special touch made our trip so memorable. I highly recommend this tour if someone in Reykjavik.

Amazing experience
This is a long trip but there’s plenty to see and the sights are spectacular. The only down side was some of the other passengers which arrived late at every stop which meant we had less time at Diamond beach and the glacial lagoon before it got dark. Our tour guide was great and we were lucky enough to see seals swimming in the lagoon. Would totally recommend this trip

An apology for my previous review which I hope I deleted. I wrote about Blue Lagoon, instead of Glacial lagoon...
Sep 2019
I did not actually take this trip from Reykjavik to the Glacial lagoon, but visited it on the way around Iceland. The lagoon is definitely worth even an extra trip. It was magical even in the bad weather that prevented us from seeing the views. But watching the icebergs of all sizes, shapes and colours floating mysteriously out of the mist from the amphicar and being surrounded by them was an unforgetable experience and truly one of the highlights of our round trip. So do take this trip even if it rains...

Wonderful trip
Sep 2019
I really enjoyed this trip in the last day of my travel in Iceland. Tour guide, Mr Dagthor Haraldsson, organised well this tour. He provided us with detail explanation and professional service. Also, driver drove very safely. On the same day I had to take Northern night, they helped me to make it. So I was able to see the light before leaving Iceland. Thank you very much.

Okay Tour Company, but suggest you try others first
Jul 2019 • Family
Recently spent 6 days in Iceland based out of Reykjavik. We booked our tours from abroad before we got there and two of them were with Reykjavik Excursions. The first one was a City Tour which was just terrible. The tour guide was not proficient in English and we only caught about 30 % of what she was saying, plus her commentary was inane and dull and stated the obvious. We did not learn anything about the city from here that we didn't already know. After much deliberation, we complained as we'd only read good reviews about this company. Fortunately we received a full refund so suspect we were not the first to do so. The second tour was to Jokulsarlon. It was a very long day - 14 hours in total and while the locations were very good, you are given very little time at each stop-off point. Iceland is huge and we do understand that it's not possible to spend a lot of time in each place, but think ½ hour would be so much better than 10 minutes here and there. Some stop-off places could possibly be missed in order to spend more time at the points of interest that matter. We were undecided whether or not to do the duck boat at Jokulsarlon and in the end decided to do it based on our guide's recommendation. Unfortunately some people who told him they'd like to do it missed out at the last minute. This aspect of the tour did not seem very well organized - no names were taken down and some people pushed in front of others and took the spaces others were promised. It was a bit of shambles. Our recommendation is to definitely do the duck boat part of the tour and have it booked/confirmed ahead of time. The guide was so so - not terribly engaging - obviously guided it many times so enthusiasm was lost which is what a first-timer wants to hear when traveling. There are many tour companies in Reykjavik - this one seems very visible and large but bigger does not necessarily mean better. Had fabulous tour experiences with East-West Tours so would recommend them over Reykjavik Excursions.

Fantastic experience
Nov 2018 • Friends
We took the Glacial Lagoon tour with Reykjavik Excursions and it was one of the best experience we had. Our tour guide Albert was an amazing guy, loaded with information and he went out of the way to make a special stop on the way back for us to experience the northern lights which was not part of the tour. Thanks to him and thanks to Reykjavik Excursions for making our trip wonderful.

The arrangement can be better
We had joined several day tours with different companies. This one is the only one we were not happy about! It requested us to wait for pick up at 7am but at the end, we start our trip at 8:10am!!!!

We need to change to another bus in the bus terminals. Other tours we joined don’t need to do this. It’s simply wasting tourists’ time. The instructions were not clear. One bus driver asked us to line up in service counter to get a ticket but after waiting for the line, the service lady said we should just get into the bus outside! No visual instructions!!!

It is a LARGE group with around 40 people. The bus was broken and we had to change to a new one! Hello?! Can they do a bit checking before our departure???

Trust me, with the same price you pay, there will be better options in Iceland. Certainly not recommend for all my friends who will come to Iceland.

Great tour guide and bus driver!
Runar and Gunnar are our guide and driver. They were fantastic. Driver is courteous and diligent. It was a really long drive, and was foggy and rainy late at night on the way back, he kept us safe, thumbs up! The tour guide is very informative. He spoke for almost the entire trip and pointed out all things we need to see during the drive and at the sights, extremely diligent, the best!
