Day Trip to Iceland's Beautiful South Coast from Reykjavik
From US$117,70
Iceland’s south coast is known for its atmospheric landscapes, from towering glaciers to black-sand beaches, but ticking them all off in one day can be difficult. Explore this often-overlooked coastline on a tour of the most impressive sights, including the waterfalls Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss and the Sólheimajökull glacier. Travel between dispersed sights with ease and save time finding a meeting point with included hotel pickup and drop-off.
What to Expect
Your day begins with collection from your Reykjavik hotel in air-conditioned bus. As you head south, admire the scenery and learn more about its geological origins from your guide. Pause briefly to enjoy a morning coffee (own expense) in Hvolsvöllur, before continuing to your first destination, the waterfall Skógafoss, to snap pictures of the fairy-tale setting.

Next, head to Reynisfjara beach and experience the evocative beauty of the black sands and basalt cliffs before stopping for lunch (own expense) in Reynisfjara or the nearby village of Vík.

The next stop is the most southerly point in Iceland, Cape Dyrhólaey. View the natural rock arch against the ocean backdrop and surrounding cliffs, before heading on to the Sólheimajökull glacier. Take a walk up close to the ancient ice cap and notice the sinkholes, ridges, and streams that form the landscape.

Finally, visit the Seljalandsfoss waterfall and marvel at the magical setting, as the water cascades down to create a curtain that, if the weather is right, you can walk behind into a small cave to admire the striking vista. Afterwards, your vehicle will take you back to Reykjavik, dropping you back at your hotel.

Dear karenpammy2016 - thank you for choosing Sterna. The south coast has indeed many interesting sights and the fast melting glacier Sólheimajökull is defiantly one of them. I am glad that you liked the tour.

Beautiful South

An excellent way to see the south of the island with enough stops to keep you engaged in the winter time. The Black Beach was my favourite stop as it is so surreal and possibly the most dangerous beach that I have ever been to....More
