    What to Expect
On arrival, meet your instructor to adivse of your ability level — beginner, intermediate, or experienced.

Get up-close to the Icelandic horses, learning about this gentle breed. Descendants of Viking horses brought here in the 10th century, these sturdy, good-nature steeds are known for their tölt, a four-beat gait that makes riding on rugged terrain smooth and comfortable.

Next, watch a short instructional video, don your provided riding gear, and hop into the saddle. Learn to ease your horse into the tölt, and set out behind your instructor. Soon afterwards, having watched you riding, your instructor will split you into three groups – beginners, intermediates and experienced.

Enjoy your 1.5- to 2-hour ride. Beginners ride slowly over easy terrain, with intermediate and experienced riders tackling more challenging routes at different paces. Just advise your instructor if you want to go slower or faster.

As you ride, soak in the beautiful scenery. Weave through lava fields and moorland, passing volcanic mountains and lakes.

After your trek, savor coffee, tea, or hot chocolate at the stables.

Horses and guides were fantastic! As an experienced rider I had such a great time learning about the Icelandic horses and their gaits. We did split up into two groups, only two of us wanted to try the quicker gaits. I can imagine a larger group would make this difficult. But in

We had a great time. Although the instructions were a little rushed (especially for first timers) the guides were great at keeping an eye on everyone and helping out as needed, making sure no one wandered off or got left behind. They encouraged us to talk to our horse and say

Beautiful animals. Great instructors and staff. Marvellous country riding. I can highly recommend this day out. The horses look well cared for and happy enough. The staff pick the right horse to suit your riding abilities.

This was a lovely way to see the lava fields. The Icelandic horse is very different from English or western riding. You mainly walk but on the more experience trail you will go a bit faster, Do not expect a gallop. The Icelandic horse gallop is called a “tilt” which is a

My son absolutely loved his horseback riding experience in Iceland. The tour company picked him up at the hotel and then kitted him out for his ride on an Icelandic horse, which is a smaller breed suitable for cold, snowy winters. My son is an experienced rider and enjoyed
