About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Voyage8123600 contributionsExcellent TripExcellent trip. Long journey but travelling in a luxurious coach helped. Great guide. Anastasia was very knowledgeable and friendly. Everything went like clockwork. Agios Nikolaos was beautiful and Spinalonga was a very interesting island. A boat trip with swimming was included which added to the fun. Overall, highly recommended.Written 6 October 2024
- drewl8080 contributionsThe Only Excursion You NEED to Book in Crete!Markidis Travel is the ONLY company you should be booking this excursion with! Nectarios the travel guide and Constantine (Costas) the bus driver (and lyra player!!) were both absolutely amazing. The best highlight was the trip to the restaurant where we had authentic Cretan cuisine as a group and enjoyed live Cretan music and were taught how to dance the traditional Cretan dance. It was almost the best part of our entire trip and HIGHLY recommend it to anyone wanting to experience authentic Cretan culture! You also get to learn a lot about the history of Crete. We would rate higher than 5 stars if possible!Written 6 October 2024

- W1679MBsimonw0 contributionsexcellent value, but LONG day...Positives: Guide and driver were superb, the guide was passionate in what he talked about and his grasp of english and german were excellent. They dealt with a detour and problem with the bus with great professionalism. The locations we stopped at were amazing, possibly we stayed a bit long at some of them, definitely too long at the taverna (in my opinion), I saw several people "flagging" after this and seemed to "switch off"... but all in all, whilst a very long day, it was worth it. Also you need cash for the taverna, they don't take cards. Negatives: Some of the tavernas in the pottery region were very poor (nothing to do with tour itself). If they don't have a menu, run! Also tried to charge extras we did not order.Written 22 September 2024
- cp4520140 contributionsGreat value, excellent tripThis tour was great value and well organised! I received confirmation and reminder emails with clear instructions. The coach turned up on time as advised and from the minute we got on board the guide was excellent. She was very knowledgeable and told us many of fantastic stories about the areas we were passing in the coach. We arrived in Agios Nikolaos and had an hour and a half before we needed to board the boat, so enjoyed some shopping and food. The boat trip over to Spinalonga was comfortable and stopped half way to allow for swimming. Personally I would have preferred more time on Spinalonga and skipped the swim break but it seemed to go down well with other guests. Spinalonga was absolutely fantastic, with a great 30 minute intro from a guide to start and then around an hour to explore on our own. Having read the book “The Island” by Victoria Hislop, made the trip even more memorable.Written 21 September 2024
- Jilawan B0 contributionsBeautiful but too crowdedThe tour operators were enjoyable and friendly. I liked that he shared about the history of the area and landscape. Beach was beautiful but possibly overrated and very crowded.Written 19 September 2024
- haileyt8250 contributionsA Wonderful Day Exploring Authentic CreteSuch a fantastic day! We originally booked for the Monastery (which is beautiful), but we visited Melidoni Caves, Margarites, a gorge and a fantastic Greek taverna. The taverna was excellent. Niktarious the guide was a fantastic host, demonstrating and teaching Greek dances. Everyone got up and had a good time! The bus driver Kostas played some of the music on his Lyre which was such a lovely experience. It's a long day but we had such an amazing time! Full video of our day available on Tik tok @knowbeforeyougo and Insta @knowbeforeyougoig 10/10Written 14 September 2024
- maharg0 contributionsGreat day out.Fantastic trip with so many things to see. The tour guide was brilliant with his enthusiasm and knowledge. The driver brilliantly negotiated some very difficult roads and then at the lunch stop was one of the musical duo playing the lyre. The only thing I would pick at was lunch at 3:45 was a bit late.Written 9 September 2024
- MihaelaU020 contributionsMy trips to PreveliThe best travel agency I have used in Rethymnon and Chania area! I highly recommend it ! Anastasia is a excellent guide, very knowledgeable, attentive. She speaks French, German and English fluently and she is friendly and kind. They are highly professional and have really good prices!Written 2 September 2024

- andreeea0 contributionsPerfect Day!A top guide with a top driver made our day beautiful. While going through the mountains to the Elafonissi beach, the guide explained us about history about nature. They stoped at 2 very good taverna where we could eat what ever we dream and also we could buy local olive oil. Elafonissi Beach is spectacular and really has pink sand.Written 22 August 2024
- Departure771970 contributionsMust visit! The driver was amazing, got a good history of the landmarks we passed. The beach itself was crowded, but if you walk across the water to the island, it's an absolute DREAM. crystal clear water, pink beaches, silk soft sand. The pickup is at 250pm which actually turned out well since it got way too hot and there were no available umbrellas. Definitely a trip you must take!Written 13 August 2024
- R8964UQjaniceb0 contributionsFantastic ExcursionAmazing trip, my favourite part was the monastery, even at high season the environment felt so calm, with lots of space to move around. I could have spend all day in the grounds, the dancing and music at the Taverna over lunch was great. There was such a wonderful amount of information about Crete delivered by Nicotarias, who was outstanding. So much passion to share the heritage of a wonderful island.Written 13 August 2024
- helenwZ3686DR0 contributionsAmazing tourThe real Crete all day trip was amazing. The tour guide and driver were both highly entertaining and very warm. We had just the right amount of time at each place to independently explore all the different places. There lots of local shopping opportunities and we finished in a family run taverna with live certain music and dancing. We can’t recommend this excursion enough. Really chilled and well managed.Written 30 July 2024
- 20martinsv0 contributionsAre modern Greeks barbarians?Interesting itinery, good guide. The only unpleasant surprise was the barbaric attitude of the modern Greeks towards nature in the last object of the route - a cave in which many stalactites were damaged to improve the path for visitors.Written 10 July 2024

The guide and the driver were great.
This trip is much longer duration than advertised. My family and I anticipated being away from around 10:00 till 15:00, since trips is advertised as 4.5 hours. We were among the first to be dropped of by the bus and we were back at 18:30. We spend an hour at each of the two first stops and around 2.5 hours at the lake and about an hour at the olive oil factory. Also the itinerary does not clearly state that this is a four stop trip.
The first stop at the "waterfalls" is boring. You are only there to see a small church and spend money at cafes.
The second stop at the avocado village was OK. Nice people, nice views, nice shops.
The third stop of 2.5 hours at the lake was grueling in the midday sun. We hunkered down at a cafe after bathing in the lake for half an hour.
Last stop at the olive oil factory was great. Interesting to see the production facilities, even as it was shut down, the tasting and shopping was great, and they have the nicest German shepherd that just surrenders to being petted by each bus-load of tourist.
Just before leaving the factory, our guide treated us to a tune on a native Greek/Cretean instrument, which was an amazing and very personal thing to experience.

Beautiful place perfect for those traveling with children. Easily accessible, you can find parking, umbrella and deckchairs even at busy times. Well-served beaches rich in fresh vegetation under which to find refreshment. Mandatory to rent the very cheap pedal boats for a swim with turtles. As for the whole island, prices are modest and affordable for family travelers.

We met Nancy who explains the excursions well and is very pleasant. We booked 3 excursions: Lake Kournas, Chania and Elafonisi. Just great with Gourgos driving very well and our guide Giannis speaking English and French. Really not disappointed and at a much cheaper rate than at the hotel. We sent them out. Good continuation and thank you for your kindness...

Great tour with a lot of time for exploring the lake! The guide and driver were super nice and helpful. Important to know is that the trip takes longer than described because of the long times you get at each place. Great value for the money!

Cool guides, very varied program and breathtaking nature. You can make the trip as adventurous or active as you like. After some explanation about the stop you can choose whether you prefer to do a terrace or discover the place a bit further. At the Kournas lake you can subb and padelle. Highly recommended!

On setting off on our holiday to Crete, one of our absolute musts was becoming more familiar with the local olive-scene, a massive part of Cretan culture. Initially our hotel said that no such excursion existed, but on flicking through some leaflets we found a tour to an olive mill run by Markidis. The tour also happened to include stops at Lake Kornos and the fresh water springs of Argyroupolis.
First up on the tour was the springs. These were fairly unremarkable. Although fascinating, and located near some nice tavernas, the springs felt somehow artificial and very different to the photos advertised. A stop at the local village (and former city) of Argyroupolis was very nice, and revealed exceptional views and a chance to taste hand-made avocado juice from fruit picked in the village itself.
Next was a stop at Lake Kornos. The lake is breathtaking. The water was clear, lovely to swim in and teeming with wildlife. We took a pedalo out to the other side of the lake and - after some searching - managed to see a few turtles and quite large fish.
Finally, the trip to the olive mill was informative but quite brief, and at times the guide of the mill (employed by the mill itself) felt rather hostile in his answers.
However, throughout the entirety of the trip our guide Yanis kept us thoroughly informed and entertained. He was stellar; full of local knowledge and constantly friendly and engaging. It was because of his quality as a guide that we went on another excursion with Markidis, which we also loved.
